Communications Minister Scindia highlights rise of over 1.8 lakh start-ups, including 73,000 led by women

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that country’s growth has been powered by emerging start-ups. He said that 15 years ago the country had a handful of start-ups but today there are more than 180 thousand start-ups in the country. He said that 73 thousand women led start-ups have emerged in the country. The Communications Minister said that there are 1.2 billion mobile subscribers in the country today and India houses 20 percent of the world’s mobile population. He was addressing the Nation Builders Summit on the second day of India Mobile Congress 2025 in New Delhi today. 
Mr. Scindia said, India has seen two paradigm shifts happen in entrepreneurism in the last decade including a huge shift in gender equity and the growth of companies listed in tier II and III cities. He said, entrepreneurs, innovators and industries of the country are now launching products and services for the globe. 
He emphasised that the growth of the country has only been possible because the government has not only played the role of a regulator but also worked as a facilitator. The Minister said that every single citizen of the country has to partake and contribute to make India a developed nation by 2047. 
Addressing the International AI Summit organized on the sidelines of India Mobile Congress 2025, Minister of State for Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said that UPI has made seamless payments universal. He said, ONDC has opened e-commerce opportunities for small sellers, and AI-powered alert systems saved over five lakh lives during Kerala floods last year.
