Commissioner of Railway Safety Begins Safety Inspection of Bairabi-Sairang Rail Line in Mizoram

In Mizoram, inspection of the newly constructed Bairabi-Sairang railway line at Hortoki-Sairang section is being conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) North East Frontier Railways (NFR).

Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of NFR Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that CRS Sumeet Singhal commenced safety inspection of the 51.38-km broad gauge railway project between Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang and Sairang-Sihhmui (34.66 km) railway stations on Friday. CRS is expected to conclude the inspection process within next 3 days.

Executed by the NFR, the Bairabi-Sairang line is a key infrastructure initiative under the Centre’s Act East Policy to enhance connectivity and economic integration in the northeast region. The line features four stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang-Sihhmui, and includes 32 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 89 minor bridges. Notably, the tallest pier, P-4, stands at 104 meters, which is taller than the Qutub Minar.

NRF officials said the project is nearing completion and the railway line is expected to become fully operational by this month. It is most likely to be inaugurated by July end. The Ministry of Railways has plans to extend the under-construction Bairabi-Sairang railway line up to the India-Myanmar border.
