CM Stalin Says Adequate Security Provided at Karur Rally Where Stampede Occurred

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has said that the State Government had provided enough security arrangements at the political rally at Karur where the Stampede incident occurred. In a suo motu statement at the Assembly today, he said that, abiding by the interim order of the Supreme Court, the case was handed over to the CBI.

The Chief Minister said that the Government was preparing Guidelines for political parties holding public meetings. Explaining that a total of 606 personnel were deployed for security duty, which was more than the requirement, he said that members of the TVK had attacked the ambulances while the rescue operations were in full swing.

State Opposition leader E.Palanisamy, in his speech, accused the Government of not giving permission to talk on the place which was already selected by the TVK party in Karur. He also said that the Government should have taken enough precautions at Karur because they were aware of the size of the crowd in earlier meetings.
