In Andhra Pradesh, International Women’s Day was celebrated today at the Parade Grounds in Amaravati with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu attending as the chief guest.
A large number of women from across the state participated in the programme. The Chief Minister felicitated five women entrepreneurs who achieved success through self-help group initiatives supported by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty and the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas.
On the occasion, Mr. Naidu launched the “Swayam AP” brand to promote products made by women’s self-help groups and distributed a mega cheque of over ten thousand crore rupees towards subsidised loans benefiting nearly seven lakh women across the state.
He also virtually inaugurated several MoUs between self-help groups and institutions to provide training, skill development and marketing support for women entrepreneurs. The Chief Minister also addressed the gathering and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening women’s self-help groups and expanding livelihood opportunities.
