Continued rain in the hills of Himachal and incidents of cloud bursts in some parts of the state have started causing trouble in parts of Punjab also due to an increase in the water level of the Beas river.
In Kapurthala, 22 villages in the Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi have been inundated as the swollen Beas River breached a temporary bandh.
The district administration has appealed to villagers living in low-lying areas of Mand to reach at relief centre set up at Sultanpur Lodhi.
Arrangements of food, water, medicines and other requirements have been made.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal has said that medical teams have also been deputed to deal with any medical emergency. District administration is maintaining vigil physically and through Drones on the affected areas and those adjoining the Beas River.
A Control Room number 01822-231-990 has also been issued.
A part of the Pathankot-Dalhousie-Chamba national highway, which was washed away a couple of days back due to heavy rain in the area, has been made functional for light vehicles only.
Plying of heavy vehicles is still restricted till further orders. Reports of rising water in the Satluj and Beas are also trickling in, but the situation is under control as of now.
