Clashes break out between two communities at three locations in Murshidabad district

In West Bengal, clashes broke out between two communities at three locations in the Murshidabad district today during Ram Navami processions, leaving several people injured and prompting authorities to impose emergency restrictions.

Incidents of vandalism, looting, and arson were reported throughout the day. Authorities have since issued orders under Section 163 of BNS, banning public gatherings across the town to prevent further violence.

The unrest reportedly began at the Phultala traffic junction in Raghunathganj following disturbances created during a Ram Navami procession. The situation escalated as stones were reportedly thrown at the procession from nearby houses and the Raghunathganj bridge.

Further violence occurred in Shishatala village. Witnesses said clashes erupted when residents protested the procession passing a religious site while playing loud music. Villagers allegedly attacked the procession and threw stones.

As news of the skirmishes spread, large crowds gathered in some areas. Large contingents of police and central forces were deployed to restore order.

DIG Murshidabad Range Ajit Singh Yadav and other senior police officials arrived at the scene this evening to oversee security operations. While the area remains under heavy guard, officials described the current atmosphere as tense but under control.
