Claims of Abuse Surface After Israel Detains Gaza Flotilla Activists

About 450 people were arrested as Israel stopped the Global Sumud Flotilla. The fleet of 42 boats aimed to break the Gaza naval blockade and deliver aid. Some activists detained while sailing to Gaza have returned home. They claim Israeli guards abused and humiliated them.

Detainees say soldiers withheld medicine and mocked them. Among those detained were Greta Thunberg, Mandla Mandela, and European lawmakers. Witnesses say Thunberg was tied up and mocked with an Israeli flag next to her.

The flotilla was intercepted as U.S. President Donald Trump pushed for a Gaza ceasefire. He urged Israel to stop bombing. Israel’s Foreign Ministry called the abuse claims “brazen lies.” Several countries, including Turkey and Greece, criticised Israel over the arrests.
