China’s Guangdong and South Korea Brace for Severe Storms, Flood Risks

Guangdong Province in southern China and South Korea are both facing severe weather conditions as heavy rain and strong winds threaten to cause widespread damage.

In Guangdong, the provincial government has activated a Level-IV emergency response due to anticipated torrential rain from today till Tuesday. Local officials are bracing for potential flooding, mountain torrents, and waterlogging, particularly in coastal cities and the southern Pearl River Delta. Authorities have urged residents to stay safe and prepare for possible evacuations.

Meanwhile, South Korea is also on high alert as heavy rainfall, expected to reach up to 150 millimetres, begins spreading across the country. The rain is forecast to affect southern and central regions over the next three days, with heavy downpours reaching up to 80 mm per hour in some areas. Emergency response levels have been raised in flood-prone provinces, including South Gyeongsang and North Jeolla, following heavy rains that caused landslides and fatalities in July.

Both countries are closely monitoring the situation and advising citizens to stay updated on weather reports and avoid risky areas as the storms continue to develop.
