China Issues Yellow Alert as Typhoon Fengshen Approaches Southern Coast

China’s national observatory has issued a yellow alert for Typhoon Fengshen as it threatens southern coastal regions with strong winds and heavy rain. According to the National Meteorological Centre (NMC), Fengshen was located about 170 kilometres west-northwest of Yongxing Dao in the South China Sea this morning, packing winds up to 33 meters per second.

The storm is moving southwest at 10 kilometres per hour and is expected to gradually weaken. Heavy rain is likely in parts of Hainan and Taiwan. Fengshen is expected to make landfall in central Vietnam as a tropical storm tomorrow, bringing flooding, landslides and flash floods. Authorities in Vietnam and Laos have issued warnings and urged preparedness as the storm moves inland.
