Chief Justice Surya Kant Says Judiciary Must Preserve Public Trust

Chief Justice Surya Kant today said that the judiciary and its allied institutions enjoy deep public trust, and it is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to preserve and further strengthen this confidence. He was addressing a seminar on the theme “The Bench Beyond Retirement” at the Constitution Club in Jaipur. Emphasising the role of former judges, Chief Justice Surya Kant said that their contribution remains vital in strengthening the justice delivery system. He noted that apart from spreading legal awareness among citizens, retired judges can play a significant role in conciliation and mediation. He also called upon the judiciary and its associated bodies, including the National Legal Services Authority and State Legal Services Authorities, to work more proactively and with greater awareness.

Addressing the gathering, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the Supreme Court and High Courts have delivered several landmark judgements that have positively impacted the lives of millions. He urged citizens to consider approaching mediation centres or Lok Adalats before initiating litigation in courts. On the occasion, the Uniform Registration Number System, an initiative of the Rajasthan High Court, was launched. A compilation of articles authored by former Supreme Court and High Court judges was also released. The event was attended by Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, members of the Association of Retired Judges, and several judges and judicial officers.
