Chief Justice of India, Dr Surya Kant, arrived in Leh today on a four-day visit to the Ladakh Union Territory. He was accorded a grand welcome reception in the Ladakhi traditional way at the Khushuk Bakula Rinpochey Airport, Leh and given a guard of honour as he commenced his visit to Ladakh.
During the visit, Kant is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed district court buildings in both Leh and Kargil, marking a major boost to judicial infrastructure in the Union Territory.
The new court complexes in Leh and Kargil have been developed to improve access to justice for remote‑area residents, with modern facilities and better accommodation for judges and staff.
Chief Justice Kant’s visit to Ladakh will become historic as he is expected to address Army personnel of Leh-based 14 Corps, as it is for the first time a sitting Chief Justice of India is scheduled to address army troops from such a location. He is also scheduled to attend an outreach programme – a mega legal awareness camp in Leh.
