Chief Election Commissioner and ECs in Chennai to review poll preparations for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi will be in Chennai for two days beginning today to review poll preparations for the ensuing Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The team will be meeting with District Collectors, Police Officials and representatives of political parties on these days. Tamil Nadu has 234 Assembly constituencies. The last Assembly elections were held in 2021. The incumbent government will be completing its tenure this year. With the SIR released a couple of days ago, the total electorate of the state is 5.67 crore after the Special Intensive Revision. In the last Parliamentary elections in 2024, the total electorate was 6.27 crore and in the Assembly elections in 2021 it was 6.62 crore.
