Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran addresses second pre-release consultative workshop on Base Revision of GDP, CPI & IIP in New Delhi

Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran today said that the country’s GDP numbers are not overestimated and criticisms are often raised to sow doubt without rigorous analysis.

Addressing the Second Pre-release Consultative Workshop on the Base Revision of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in New Delhi, Mr Nageswaran said that India needs to shorten the frequency with which it undertakes the revisions, as change is happening at a much more rapid pace. He emphasised the importance of asking questions and contributing to the refinement of new data releases during the workshop.

On the other hand, addressing the event, Vice Chairman of Niti Ayog Suman Bery said that the country needs a professional consensus to provide tangible data to the public in the era of social media. He said that the Indian public is owed a responsible discussion so that the issues of the credibility of the data can be set aside.
