Chhattisgarh: Cabinet approves significant steps toward implementing UCC in the state

The Chhattisgarh Council of Ministers has taken an important decision towards implementing a Uniform Civil Code in the state. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting held in Raipur today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The Council of Ministers has decided to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of retired judge Ranjana Prakash Desai to prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code.

The Chief Minister has been authorized to nominate the other members of the committee. At present, different laws are applicable in matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and family affairs for different religious communities in the state, making the legal process complex. The move aims to simplify and bring uniformity in the legal system. The committee will seek suggestions from citizens, organizations and experts and prepare the draft, which will be placed in the vidhansabha after due legal process.
