In Chhattisgarh, fifteen Maoists, including nine women, surrendered before the police in Mahasamund district today. The surrendered cadres were collectively carrying a reward of seventy-three lakh rupees on their heads.
Among those who laid down arms is a State Committee Member of the Maoist organisation, Vikas, who carried a reward of twenty-five lakh rupees. During the surrender, the Maoists handed over fourteen weapons to the police. These include three AK-47 rifles, two SLRs, two INSAS rifles, four .303 rifles, a twelve-bore gun and other automatic weapons.
According to officials, the surrendered Maoists had been active for a long time in the Balangir-Bargarh-Mahasamund division.
