In Uttarakhand, the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, in Uttarkashi district, have been opened for the devotees with traditional Vedic chants, on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya today. With this, the Char Dham Yatra in the state has officially commenced. The portals of Gangotri Dham were opened at 10:30 AM, and Yamunotri Dham at 11:55 AM, accompanied by religious rituals. A large number of devotees were present at both shrines to witness the occasion. Pilgrims will now be able to visit these shrines for the next six months.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Gangotri Dham and offered prayers. He said that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and safe journey for the devotees coming on the Char Dham Yatra.
Akashvani Correspondent reports that with the opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham, the Char Dham Yatra has commenced in Uttarakhand. According to the Uttarkashi district administration, top priority has been given to the convenience of pilgrims visiting these shrines. Infrastructure such as toilets, parking areas and traffic management systems along the route have been strengthened. This year, smart toilet complexes have been developed at eight locations, as well as parking facilities at many places. In view of the possibility of an increasing number of passengers and increasing pressure of vehicles, efforts have been made to make the major routes smooth and safe. Basic amenities like electricity, water and sanitation facilities have also been provided along the pilgrimage routes.
