Centre assures full support for darjeeling disaster victims: Kiren Rijiju

Central Government will provide all possible assistance to rehabilitate and relocate the Darjeeling Hills disaster-affected people, said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. He further said PM Narendra Modi has sent him to review the relief measures and take a first-hand stock of the situation.
 
 
He will submit a ground report to the Central Government. In association with the State Government, the centre is providing and will further provide all assistance, he said.
 
 
Sri Rijiju is on a two-day visit to assess the ground situation in Darjeeling District, where heavy rain and landslides caused severe damage to houses, roads & bridges on 4th & 5th October 2025.
 
 
So far, 23 people have lost their lives, and more than 50 houses have been completely washed away, more than 125 houses are partially damaged, and hundreds of people have been displaced. Two major bridges collapsed, and several roads were damaged.
 
 
Rijiju will visit Bijanbari Block tomorrow and return to Delhi in the evening. He arrived at Bagdogra today and went to Mirik.
