CEC Dr Akhoon Inaugurates Model School in Kargil, Marks Big Boost for Rural Education

In a major boost to rural education infrastructure in Ladakh, the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today inaugurated the newly constructed building of Government Model Middle School, Titichumik.

The event marks a significant milestone in the region’s efforts to enhance access to quality education in remote areas.

Dr Akhoon, while addressing the gathering, reaffirmed the Council’s strong commitment to improving educational standards. He emphasised that the newly upgraded model school would serve as a catalyst for academic excellence, teacher empowerment, and holistic student development.

He also announced Rs. 3 lakh in financial assistance for the school and assured that the vacant Hindi teacher post would be filled soon. The CEC further pledged to look into key development needs of the village, including road connectivity, irrigation, healthcare, and sports infrastructure.

Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Haji Mohd Haneefa Jan, appreciated the collective efforts behind the school’s transformation and highlighted the importance of community participation and teacher training in ensuring long-term success.

Significantly, student enrolment at the school has seen a dramatic rise from just 6 students in 2022 to 80 in 2025, reflecting the growing trust of the community in the government’s education initiatives.
