The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to six e-commerce platforms for listing restricted drone and GPS jammers in violation of consumer protection laws. The Authority said these were being offered for sale in alleged violation of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and other telecom and trade control laws.
It observed that the devices were listed without mandatory licensing disclosures, valid equipment type approval or wireless planning and coordination certification details. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution added that the platforms also failed to state that civilian possession without statutory authorisation is prohibited.
The CCPA has sought detailed information from the concerned platforms. It has also asked for details of units sold in the past two years along with purchaser information, third-party sellers, steps taken to remove such listings and a list of similar equipment available on their platforms.
