The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a penalty of five lakh rupees on a private coaching institute located in Delhi-NCR, for publishing misleading advertisements regarding the results of the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022. The coaching institute in its advertisement had claimed that more than 216 candidates of this institute were selected in UPSC CSE 2022. The institute also displayed candidates’ names and photographs in the advertisements.
CCPA said that during the investigation, it was found that only 75 percent of candidates enrolled with the institute. It added that institute had concealed crucial information regarding the type and duration of courses opted by the candidates. CCPA sai that this is the second time when a penalty has been imposed on that private coaching institute for similar conduct. The institute had also conducted the same misleading claims in September last year that more than 150 candidates were selected in UPSC CSE 2021.
