CCPA Acts Against E-Commerce Violations, Issues Notices for Unfair Practices

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has taken action against several entities for violations of consumer rights and unfair trade practices in the e-commerce sector. In reply to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha today, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi said that 997 notices have been issued by the Legal Metrology Department since 2020 to such e-commerce platforms for adopting unfair practices. He added that following the action by the CCPA, several e-commerce entities have strengthened their grievance redressal mechanisms. The Minister said, so far, refunds amounting to one thousand 440 crore rupees have been facilitated to the aggrieved consumers, which is one of the biggest achievements of the Department of Consumer Affairs in recent years.
