Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four persons in view of their involvement in the Digital Arrests case. The arrests followed an extensive search operation at 12 locations across four states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan, as part of Operation Chakra-five. The CBI said in a statement that it took over the case registered at the Cyber Police Station in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu, where the victim was digitally detained for over three months by cyber-criminals impersonating personnel of various law enforcement agencies. During the period, the victim was extorted 42 times, totalling more than 7.67 crore rupees. It added that substantial material was recovered during these searches, including bank account details, debit cards, chequebooks, and digital devices, among others.
