Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that he is very focused on the delivery of welfare programmes to the common people in India despite challenges. Prime Minister Carney said Mr Modi has been successful in bringing crores of people into the formal economy through financial reforms in the country. Mr Carney was speaking yesterday during an interaction at Australia’s leading think tank, the Lowy Institute, in Sydney, where he was asked to speak about his assessment of Prime Minister Modi days after the two leaders met in New Delhi. The Canadian Prime Minister also said Prime Minister Modi has not taken a day off in the last 25 years, ever since he first became Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and then Prime Minister of India in 2014. He said every weekend, Mr Modi is out campaigning, where two lakh fifty thousand people attend his rallies. The Canadian Prime Minister also highlighted the country’s non-aligned position in global affairs.
