Campaigning Heats Up in Bihar Ahead of First Phase of Assembly Elections

In Bihar,  the exchange of allegations and counter-allegations between the leaders of the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan has intensified during the campaigning for the Assembly elections. Star campaigners and senior leaders of various parties are addressing a series of election rallies across different Assembly constituencies. A report:

Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an election rally in Muzaffarpur in support of NDA candidates. Criticising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the Prime Minister said both are out on bail in multi-crore corruption cases. Mr Modi alleged that the two leaders are misleading the people with false promises.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a rally in Lakhisarai, said that the NDA government has freed Bihar from Naxalism, kidnappings, and jungle raj. He described the Mahagathbandhan manifesto as a bundle of lies.

JD(U) President and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, speaking at Matihani in Begusarai, said his government has truly empowered women in Bihar. He alleged that during the RJD regime, crime was rampant across the state.

Congress senior leader and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that if the Mahagathbandhan comes to power, the Old Pension Scheme will be reinstated.

RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav addressed a public meeting in Bahadurpur in Darbhanga, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address an election rally in Barbigha in Sheikhpura.
