Cambodia has shut down nearly 200 suspected scam centres in a sweeping crackdown on transnational fraud, as authorities opened one site to reporters to demonstrate progress. Senior minister and head of the Commission for Combating Online Scams, Chhay Sinarith, said 190 locations have been sealed, 173 people arrested and about 11,000 workers deported since the campaign began late last year. The move followed the US indictment and China’s extradition of an alleged scam kingpin. At a complex in Kampot province, computer rooms, scripts targeting Thai victims, studio booths and a fake Indian police station were found. Officials said thousands of workers fled after a suspected boss was detained, citing limited police manpower to prevent departures.
