Bypolls: BJP’s Rajendra Chavda wins Kadi, AAP’s Gopal Italia clinches Visavadar; leads for AAP in Punjab

The counting of votes is underway for the by-elections to five Assembly seats in four states. BJP candidate Rajendra Kumar Daneshwar Chavda won in the Kadi constituency in Gujarat by 39,452 votes against Rameshbhai Chavda of Congress, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Italia Gopal won the Visavadar constituency by 17,554 votes. He defeated Kirit Patel of the BJP.

In Punjab, Sanjeev Arora of AAP is leading from the Ludhiana West Assembly, followed by Congress nominee Bharat Bhushan Ashoo and BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta in the third position.

In the Kaliganj seat in West Bengal, All India Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed is in a decisive lead. In the Nilambur seat in Kerala, the Congress candidate Aryadan Shoukath is leading decisively by more than 77,000 votes after 19 rounds of counting. In this seat, 10 candidates are in the fray. The contest is seen as a litmus test for the ruling LDF government and its prospects in next year’s Assembly polls.
