According to the New Testament, Good Friday is the day on which Jesus Christ was crucified by order of the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. At that time, religious leaders brought him before the Roman authorities, accusing him of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God.

“From early morning, churches across Keralam witnessed special prayers, hymns, and solemn services as devotees gathered in large numbers. The faithful took part in the Way of the Cross, reflecting the suffering and sacrifice of Christ through traditional observances passed down over generations. In Thiruvananthapuram, major churches such as St. Joseph’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Palayam and St. Mary’s Cathedral, Pattom saw large congregations. Services were led by senior clergy, with special prayers and reflections marking the significance of the day. The famous pilgrimage centre of Malayattur hills in n Keralam is witnessing huge crowd of devotees for the last three days. Ezhukum vayal hills Idukki district is also witnessing large crowd. dateline – 2 : Digital Transformation of India’s weather Forecasting System

India is highly vulnerable to extreme weather events such as cyclones, floods, heatwaves, droughts, and landslides due to its diverse geography, long coastline, and monsoon-dependent climate. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Ministry of Earth Sciences, India experiences hundreds of extreme weather events every year, with floods affecting nearly 40 million hectares of land and heatwaves becoming more frequent in recent decades. Over 75% of India’s districts are exposed to multiple climate hazards, while cyclones and floods alone account for the majority of disaster-related losses. In this context, the in-house development of a Multi-Hazard Early Warning Decision Support System (MHEW-DSS) by IMD is a timely and strategic step, as accurate forecasting and integrated risk analysis significantly reduce disaster losses and public safety.

मल्टी-हैज़र्ड अर्ली वार्निंग डिसीजन सपोर्ट सिस्टम एक आधुनिक डिजिटल पूर्वानुमान प्लेटफॉर्म है, जिसे मौसम विभाग ने ओपन-सोर्स तकनीक और अपनी विशेषज्ञता से विकसित किया है। ‘मिशन मौसम’ के अंतर्गत शुरू किया गया यह प्रणाली देश में रियल-टाइम मौसम की निगरानी और चेतावनी देता है। इस प्रणाली का उद्घाटन जनवरी 2024 में किया गया था। यह जियोग्राफिक इंफॉर्मेशन सिस्टम यानी GIS मैप जैसे टूल्स का इस्तेमाल करता है, जिससे मौसम वैज्ञानिक तेजी से जानकारी इकट्ठा कर पाते हैं, उसका विश्लेषण कर पाते हैं और लोगों तक आसान तरीके से पहुँचा पाते हैं।

The primary objective of the MHEW-DSS is to build an integrated and indigenous forecasting system capable of delivering accurate, real-time, and impact-based multi-hazard forecast across India. The system is designed to empower forecasters, decision-makers, and communities by improving information flow and enabling timely early warnings. Through these capabilities, the system supports impact-based forecasting and risk-based warnings, allowing IMD forecasters to translate complex meteorological data into actionable information for users.

मल्टी-हैज़र्ड अर्ली वार्निंग डिसीजन सपोर्ट सिस्टम मौसम का पूर्वानुमान लगाने, बड़े पैमाने पर डेटा संभालने और समय पर अलर्ट जारी करने के लिए तैयार किया गया है। इसके तहत कई खास एप्लिकेशन भी बनाए गए हैं। इनमें ‘मौसमग्राम’ एक महत्वपूर्ण एैप है, जो ग्रामीण स्तर तक सटीक और स्थानीय मौसम की जानकारी पहुँचाने में मदद करता है।

Approved by the Union Cabinet in September 2024, Mission Mausam is a flagship initiative aimed at strengthening weather forecasting and early warning capabilities across the country. The mission aims to enhance the accuracy, resolution and lead time of forecasts for extreme weather events such as cyclones, heavy rainfall and heat waves. Within the MHEW-DSS, the mission strengthens the scientific and technological backbone of forecasting by improving observation networks, data assimilation and modelling capabilities, enabling timely weather alerts for effective disaster preparedness.

इस प्रणाली की एक खास बात यह है कि यह केवल मौसम का अनुमान ही नहीं लगाता, बल्कि यह भी बताता है कि खराब मौसम का असर कृषि, स्वास्थ्य, ऊर्जा और परिवहन जैसे क्षेत्रों पर कितना पड़ेगा। यह ‘प्रभाव आधारित पूर्वानुमान’ और ‘जोखिम आधारित चेतावनी’ पर भी ध्यान देता है।

The Multi-Hazard Early Warning Decision Support System represents a decisive transformation in India’s approach to weather forecasting and disaster risk reduction. By integrating real-time observations, advanced modelling, GIS-based analysis, and structured dissemination within a single digital framework, the system converts weather and climate information into timely, preventive action. MHEW-DSS has strengthened preparedness across environment, energy, health, agriculture, livelihoods, and governance. It has reduced loss of life, limited economic damage, improved service delivery, and enhanced public trust through consistent and impact-focused warnings. The system demonstrates how technology-driven early warning delivers measurable public value at the national-scale and positions India as a global leader in multi-hazard early warning systems.

The Mizos, in general, have been quite aware of sanitation and cleanliness. In fact, it has been maintained that there has not been any incidence of manual scavenging in Mizoram. For many years, Mizo society has been known for its hygienic and healthful lifestyle.

“In a major push toward making Aizawl the cleanest city in the country, a mass cleanliness drive was conducted across the capital, Aizawl. Individual localities also do partake in this cleanliness and sanitation activities by cleaning their localities. With the combined efforts of the Government, NGOs and general public, community garbage are collected and disposed of in designated locations. The initiative organised by the Coordination Committee for Aizawl City Cleanliness, was a joint venture of state Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) department, Aizawl Smart City, Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), and Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), aiming at achieving a “Garbage Free Aizawl,”. UD&PA Secretary Lalmalsawma Pachuau flagged off the drive during a brief ceremony held in front of Vanapa Hall here and simultaneously launched the Aizawl City YMA Branch Cleanliness competition. Speaking on the occasion, Pachuau emphasised that prioritising cleanliness is an essential aspect of patriotism. He urged the Mizo people to take collective responsibility of caring and upkeeping their land. He also said that cleanliness is an economic asset that enhances the state’s value and serves as a primary attraction for tourists. The initiative saw widespread participation from various departments and YMA branches despite challenging weather conditions that hampered efforts in several localities, officials said. समाज और परिवार के रिश्तों को सरल लेकिन प्रभावशाली शब्दों में प्रस्तुत करने वाली जानी-मानी लेखिका – मन्नू भंडारी का जन्म 1931 में आज ही के दिन हुआ था। मन्नू भंडारी हिंदी साहित्य की उन लेखिकाओं में शामिल थीं, जिन्होंने आम जीवन की सच्चाइयों को अपनी कहानियों और उपन्यासों के माध्यम से बेहद सहज भाषा में प्रस्तुत किया। उनका चर्चित उपन्यास ‘आपका बंटी’ आज भी टूटते परिवारों और बच्चों की भावनाओं को समझने के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण कृति माना जाता है। इस उपन्यास में वे लिखती हैं – “बच्चे का मन बहुत कोमल होता है, उसे समझना ही सबसे बड़ी जिम्मेदारी है।” साहित्य के क्षेत्र में उनके उत्कृष्ट योगदान के लिए उन्हें वर्ष 2008 में प्रतिष्ठित – व्यास सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया ।
