In Kerala,Lakhs of women devotees today participated in the renowned Attukal Pongala festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, transforming the Kerala capital into a vast expanse of devotion and faith.From the early hours of this morning, women dressed in traditional attire lined the streets across the city, setting up temporary brick hearths and earthen pots to prepare the sacred offering of pongala, a sweet dish made of rice, jaggery and coconut.
”The ritual began with the Adappu Vettu ceremony at 9.45 a.m., when the temple’s chief priest lit the ceremonial flame inside the temple. The sacred fire was then passed from one hearth to another, marking the formal commencement of the pongala preparation across the city. At 2.15 p.m., the ceremonial offering of Pongala took place. For many participants, the ritual is more than a tradition, it is a deeply personal prayer seeking prosperity, protection and wellbeing. The festival will conclude by midnight with the offering of Kuruthi. Devotees had begun arriving in the capital since yesterday, with women flowing in from various parts of the state to take part in this unique festival dedicated to the Goddess. The hearths stretched across kilometres was turning the capital into a sea of simmering earthen pots. People from northern parts of the state reached Thiruvananthapuram on Monday itself. Let us listen to Sindhu, an Associate Professor at a Nursing College at Kozhikode. Dr. Reshmi, who reached here from Bengaluru is also planning to come again next year for the Pongala.

Authorities made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival, including traffic regulations, enhanced safety measures, drinking water facilities and medical support. A local holiday was declared for government offices in the district today in view of the large gathering. The aroma of pongala and the sight of thousands of pots cooking in unison stand as a powerful symbol of collective faith, as Thiruvananthapuram once again witnesses one of the largest gatherings of women devotees. Now, we travel thousands of kilometers northeast to the culturally rich state of Manipur, where the five-day festival of Yaoshang is in full swing. Though it coincides with Holi, Yaoshang has its own identity and deep-rooted traditions unique to Manipur’s heritage. The festival begins with the burning of a small hut-like structure symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. From there, the celebrations burst into life. Children go from house to house collecting donations known as Nakatheng, fostering community spirit and playful interaction. Evenings come alive with the traditional dance called Thabal Chongba – where young men and women in colorful attire form circles, sing folk songs, and dance under the moonlit sky. What makes Yaoshang truly distinctive is its strong emphasis on sports. Local clubs organize athletic competitions ranging from races to cultural contests, promoting physical fitness and youth participation. Yaoshang is not merely a festival; it is a cultural revival – blending devotion, sportsmanship, art, and joy.
Manipur eagerly awaits the arrival of Yaoshang, the most vibrant and widely celebrated spring festival of the state. Marking the beginning of joy, colour, sports and cultural unity, Yaoshang brings people of all ages together in a spirit of harmony and youthful energy. As the fullmoon of Lamta approaches, preparations have begun across localities, filling the air with excitement and anticipation.
“For this year, Yaoshang will begin on 3rd March and end on 7th March 2026. As the day draws closer to Yaoshang, local clubs and communities are busy cleaning grounds, decorating mandaps, and organizing sports events. Children rehearse for cultural performances, while elders guide traditional rituals. The symbolic burning of Yaoshang Huts on the first evening marks the beginning of the Yaoshang festival, followed by devotional nakatheng where children go from door to door seeking donations, holi pala events and thabal chongba dances performed under the moonlit sky. Speaking to Akashvani News, a local woman said that community leaders highlight the deep cultural significant of Yaoshang and emphasized that the festival is not only about colours and celebration, but also about unity and togetherness. Following the launch of a nationwide HPV vaccination programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Odisha government has rolled out a free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive across the state.
“Led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the campaign reflects the vision of “Swastha Nari”, a healthy woman. The initiative aims to vaccinate nearly 3.36 lakh girls in the 14-15 age group and forms a key pillar of the Chief Minister’s Cancer Treatment Programme, with a strong focus on early prevention. A defining feature of the programme is, its accessibility. For the first time, eligible girls can visit government health facilities – including community health centres, sub-divisional hospitals, and district headquarters hospitals – to receive the HPV vaccine free of charge. The vaccine offers protection against one of the most common and life-threatening cancers affecting women in India. In the second phase, the drive will expand to primary health centres in rural and remote areas, ensuring that girls in villages and smaller towns are not left behind. The state government aims to complete the first phase within three months. Health experts have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a landmark step for women’s health. Dr. Sweta Singh, Professor in the Department of Gynaecology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhubaneswar, said the programme has the potential to significantly strengthen cervical cancer prevention efforts in Odisha.

“मध्य प्रदेश में श्योपुर के जंगलों से एक खास तस्वीर सामने आई…जहां नदी की लहरों ने नए मेहमानों का स्वागत किया। मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. मोहन यादव कूनो नेशनल पार्क पहुंचे, जहां उन्होंने कूनो नदी के तट पर अपने हाथों से 53 नन्हे घड़ियालों को पानी की धार में छोड़ा। छोटी-सी हलचल… और फिर लहरों में गुम हो जाते ये नन्हे जीवन। सिर्फ घड़ियाल ही नहीं… तीन धारियों वाली दुर्लभ प्रजाति के 25 नन्हे कछुओं को भी नदी में छोड़ा गया। जंगल की इस हरियाली में नामीबिया, दक्षिण अफ्रीका और बोत्सवाना से आए चीते भी रच-बस रहे हैं। यानी कूनो की कहानी अब और रोमांचक हो गई है। इस खास मौके पर मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. मोहन यादव ने कहा-

In a major push to strengthen reading culture in Goa, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced that 168 e-libraries will be established across panchayat and municipal areas in the state.
“Speaking at a function in Ponda, the Chief Minister said 20 libraries are already operational. He inaugurated the newly developed city library and e-library facility of the Ponda Municipal Council. The e-library initiative, originally championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will provide digital access to books, study material and academic resources. Libraries will remain open till 10 pm to support students preparing for competitive exams. The move will benefit students in rural and remote areas and help build a knowledge-based society in Goa.
