The Department of Tourism has announced the schedule for the much-awaited Shigmo parades across Goa. The vibrant festival will begin on March 5 and continue till March 18, covering major towns and cities in the state.
The annual Shigmo festivities are set to paint Goa in colours of tradition and celebration. According to the Goa Tourism Department, the parades will begin in Ponda on March 5, followed by Calangute on March 6 and Panaji on March 7. Mapusa will host the parade on March 8, Quepem on March 9 and Bicholim on March 10. Sankhali will celebrate on March 11, while Shiroda and Sanguem will host on March 12. Dharbandora and Cuncolim will witness the festivities on March 13, Margao on March 14, Vasco and Porvorim on March 15, Valpoi on March 16, Pernem and Quepem on March 17, and Mandrem and Canacona on March 18. The Shigmo parades will feature traditional Romtamel troupes, mythological tableaux, and energetic dhol-tasha performances, showcasing Goa’s rich cultural heritage. Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram is all set for tomorrows Attukal Pongala festival. Lakhs of devotees from various parts of the state are flowing to Thiruvananthapuram for this festival of women held at Attukal Bhagathi Temple.
On Tuesday, the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram will transform into a sea of devotion, faith and tradition as lakhs of women gather for the renowned Attukal Pongala. Devotees have already begun arriving in large numbers, with the flow of participants starting from Monday early morning itself. Lakhs of women are expected to take part in the ritual, offering prayers in a powerful expression of faith and unity. The sacred ritual will take place at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, where devotees will prepare the traditional sweet offering known as pongala, a simple yet symbolic dish made of rice, jaggery, and coconut. Majority of the people prepare it in in earthen pots set up on temporary brick hearths across the city. From the early hours of on Tuesday morning, women dressed in traditional attire are expected to line the streets, setting up small brick hearths across the city. As the temple’s chief priest lights the ceremonial flame, the fire will be passed from one hearth to another, marking the beginning of the offering. The Adappu vettu ritual, will be held at 9.45 am tomorrow. The ceremonial lighting of flame will be done at that time. Ceremonial offering of Pongala will be held at 2.15 pm. The festival will come to an end by midnight with offering of Kuruthi. For many participants, the ritual is more than tradition, it is a deeply personal prayer for prosperity, protection, and well being. Authorities have made elaborate arrangements, including traffic regulations, safety measures, drinking water facilities, and medical support, to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. A local holiday is declared for the government offices in the district tomorrow. As dusk falls tomorrow, and thousands of earthen pots simmer in unison, Thiruvananthapuram will once again witness a powerful celebration of devotion, where faith rises gently with the steam of pongala. Besides Mumbai, he also opened distribution offices in West Bengal, Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. However, Trimurti Films suffered failures with Rajiv’s movies in 2000s, Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat (Love, Amour and Romance) and Asambhav (Impossible), both were attempts to launch Arjun Rampal as a hero but flopped and were unable to make Rampal, a successful hero. Rai died in Mumbai on 11 October 2004 after a prolonged illness, aged 80. He was a recipient of Padma Shri.
