The United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on Tuesday designating May 25 as World Football Day.The chosen date commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first international football tournament, where all regions were represented. This historic event took place on May 25, 1924, during the summer Olympic games in Paris.

Background
2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the first international football tournament in history with the representation of all regions, which took place on May 25, 1924, during the summer Olympic games held in Paris.
In recognition of this milestone, on May 7, 2024, the General Assembly passed Resolution A/RES/78/281 proclaiming May 25 as World Football Day.
The resolution acknowledges “the global reach of football and its impact in various spheres, including commerce, peace and diplomacy, and recognizing that football creates a space for cooperation.”
It also recognizes “the fundamental role” of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and the important role of regional and national soccer federations, as well as relevant associations, in promoting the game of football.

“इस बैठक में मुख्य सूचना आयुक्त हीरालाल समारिया; मेघालय के राज्य मुख्य सूचना आयुक्त एच. नोंगपलुह; स्टैंडिंग कॉन्फ्रेंस ऑफ पब्लिक एंटरप्राइजेज (SCOPE), के निदेशक जनरल अतुल सोबती और मेघालय सरकार, भारत सरकार और सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उपक्रमों के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने हिस्सा लिया। इस बैठक में 34 सार्वजनिक क्षेत्रों के उपक्रमों से 80 से अधिक प्रतिनिधि शामिल हुए। आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में हीरालाल समारिया ने कहा कि सूचना का अधिकार अधिनियम का उद्देश्य शासन में पारदर्शिता और उत्तरदायित्व को बढ़ावा देना है। उन्होंने कहा कि यद्यपि RTI एक छोटा अधिनियम है, पर यह शक्तिशाली अधिनियम है। स्कोप के निदेशक जनरल अतुल सोबती ने बताया कि SCOPE ने शिलांग में इस राष्ट्रीय बैठक का आयोजन इसलिए किया क्योंकि शहर की बढ़ती प्रमुखता के कारण, यह स्मार्ट सिटी बनने की दिशा में कदम उठा रहा है।

In Archery, India bagged a gold and a silver medal at World Cup (Stage two) at Yecheon in South Korea today. The Indian Compound Women’s Team comprising Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur and Aditi Swami defeated Turkey’s Hazal Burun, Ayse Bera Suzer and Begum Yuva in the final to won the gold.
The Indian Compound Mixed team of Jyothi and Priyansh clinched the silver medal after losing to American pair of Olivia Dean and Sawyer Sullian in the Gold medal match.

Sunil Dutt (born Balraj Dutt; 6 June 1929 – 25 May 2005) was an Indian actor, film producer, director and politician. Dutt was honoured with Padma Shri, in 1968, by the Government of India, for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Dutt debuted in 1955 with the Hindi film Railway Platform. He rose to prominence with highly successful and acclaimed films, such as Ek Hi Raasta (1956), Mother India (1957), Sadhna (1958) and went on to deliver many hugely popular and iconic films in a career that spanned 48 years.
Dutt married his Mother India co-star Nargis in 1958. Together they had three children, including the actor Sanjay Dutt. In 1984 he joined the Indian National Congress party and was elected to the Parliament of India for five terms from the constituency of Mumbai North West.
He was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Manmohan Singh government (2004–2005) and also a former Sheriff of Mumbai.
Dutt is regarded as one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema. He is known for his acting, mannerism and to dare to take up risky and non-commercial projects in his prime years, such as Mujhe Jeene Do, Yaadein and Reshma Aur Shera. He was also noted as a serial talent-spotter, giving major breaks to then struggling actors Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Ranjeet and Shakti Kapoor in his home productions Reshma Aur Shera and Rocky respectively. He worked for many years in collaboration with Merchant Ivory Productions which included film director (and Merchant’s longtime professional and domestic partner) James Ivory as well as screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.
Merchant met American movie director James Ivory at a screening in New York of Ivory’s documentary The Sword and the Flute in 1959. In May 1961, Merchant and Ivory formed the film production company Merchant Ivory Productions.

Malabar Gopalan Nair Sreekumar (born 25 May 1957), better known as M.G. Sreekumar is an Indian playback singer, composer Bank employee, music producer, television presenter and film producer, Bank employee who works predominantly in Malayalam cinema. He has sung more than 25000 songs in various Indian languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Sanskrit. He owns a music company named KMG Musics and the Saregama School of Music in Thiruvananthapuram. Sreekumar has won several awards, including two National Film Awards, three Kerala State Film Awards and 5 Filmfare Awards South. He was also honoured with the Harivarasanam Award by the Government of Kerala in 2016. His career as a singer spans over 44 years. The Malayalam movie Chithram (1988) directed by Priyadarshan, starring Mohanlal, was the first where Sreekumar sang all the songs. He has sung more than 35,000 songs for films in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Telugu.

बलबीर सिंह (अंग्रेज़ी: Balbir Singh, जन्म- 10 अक्टूबर, 1924, जालंधर, पंजाब; मृत्यु- 25 मई, 2020, मोहाली) भारत के प्रसिद्ध हॉकी खिलाड़ियों में गिने जाते थे। हॉकी खिलाड़ी बलबीर सिंह का नाम आज भी शीर्ष खिलाड़ियों में लिया जाता है। वह अपने खेलने के दिनों से ही सर्वश्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ियों में एक समझे जाते रहे। उनकी आज भी भारत में ही नहीं विश्व में भी प्रशंसा होती है। उनकी हाँकी से ऐसे गोल निकलते थे, जिनका जवाब नहीं। उन्होंने तीन बार ओलंपिक में स्वर्ण पदक जीता- 1948, 1952 तथा 1956 में। वह पंजाब सरकार में खेलों के निदेशक भी रहे। मोगा में एक इनडोर स्टेडियम का नाम उनके नाम पर रखा गया है।
हेलसिंकी में बलबीर सिंह ने भारतीय टीम की कप्तानी की। उनकी इन्हीं उपलब्धियों के कारण उन्हें 1957 में ‘पद्मश्री’ से अलंकृत किया गया।

Uttam Singh (born 25 May 1948) is an Indian music director and a well-known violinist. He has also worked as a music arranger, programmer and recordist for many Bollywood films. He worked as a music assistant for Ilaiyaraaja in numerous Tamil films before establishing himself as an independent composer.
Later, he became the main violinist for S D Burman’s son, Rahul Dev Burman. He won several awards for Nanak Shah Fakir …we have a song from that film.
