While most of us get excited about the glimmer of Diwali night, how many of us pause to embrace the day before? Choti Diwali might be called “small,” but its meaning and message are anything but! So sit back, grab that cup of chai or maybe a bite of laddoo, and let’s take a beautiful journey through the traditions, legends, and warmth of this amazing festival.

Now you might ask – what do we actually *do* on Choti Diwali?
Well, across India, traditions may vary, but the essence remains the same -*preparation, purification, and prayer. Most families begin the day before sunrise with a special ritual bath, often using *ubtan* – a mixture of gram flour, turmeric, and fragrant herbs. It’s called **Abhyanga Snan**, and it’s believed to cleanse not just the body but also the aura. People light a few diyas, not as many as on Diwali night, but just enough to signify that light is on its way. In many households, there’s a small **puja for Lord Krishna**, thanking him for removing negativity. It’s a quieter, more reflective day – almost like the calm before the celebration.
और हाँ – रसोई में पहले से ही सब कुछ तैयार है!
चलिए बात करते हैं खाने की – क्योंकि बिना कुछ खाए त्यौहार का क्या मतलब?

In Uttar Pradesh, Ayodhya is all set to hold a grand Deepotsav today on the eve of Diwali. The UP Government will aim for the Guinness World Record by lighting more than 26 lakh diyas today at 56 ghats of Ayodhya, including the Ram Ki Paidi. This year another world record will be attempted, in which 2,100 Vedacharyas will perform Maha Aarti and recite shlokas on the banks of the Saryu River. Governor Anandiben Patel, CM Yogi Adityanath and several other ministers will grace the event.
“As part of the Deepotsav celebration, Ayodhya this morning witnessed a vibrant fusion of spirituality, culture, and tradition. The Shobha Yatra, which started from saket Mahavidyalaya showcased tableaux based on the seven chapters of the Ramayana. Artists from different states gave cultural performances on the Shobha Yatra route. The lighting of over 26 lakh diyas across 56 ghats, including Ram Ki Paidi, will begin in the evening. 33 thousand volunteers from Awadh University have started putting thread and pouring oil in diyas. The Guinness Book team will use drones to verify the count. CM Yogi Adityanath invited everyone to participate in ‘historic’ deepotsav in Ayodhya today via social media post. The Laser & Drone Show will also be organized in the evening. Around 1,100 ‘Swadeshi’ drones will project images of the Ramayana into the sky. “छत्तीसगढ़ के सक्ती जिले के पलारी खुर्द में महिलाओं ने राधाकृष्ण स्व-सहायता समूह बनाया है। ग्रामीण आजीविका मिशन के तहत ये महिलाएं अपने उत्पादों के जरिए न सिर्फ आत्मनिर्भर बन रही है, बल्कि नये-नये प्रयोग भी कर रही है। दीपावली त्यौहार को ध्यान में रखते हुए गांव की इन महिलाओं ने संगिनी ब्रांड के नाम से आकर्षक गिफ्ट हैम्पर तैयार किया है, जिसमें विभिन्न प्रकार के सुंगधित और डिजाईनर मोम उत्पाद शामिल किए गए हैं। समूह की एक सदस्य श्रीमती पुष्पा ने बताया कि उनका समूह अलग-अलग त्यौहारों को ध्यान में रखते हुए उत्पादों का निर्माण करता है। जैसे – राखी, गुलाल, रंगोली और मोम से बने उत्पाद। समूह की सदस्यों ने पहले डिजाईनर कैंडल बनाने का प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया और फिर यू-टयूब के वीडियो देखकर गिफ्ट हैम्पर तैयार करना सीख लिया। अब इनके गिफ्ट हैम्पर के लिए जिले के विभिन्न उद्योगों और संस्थानों से ऑर्डर प्राप्त हो रहे हैं। जिला प्रशासन भी इन समूह की महिलाओं को उत्पादों के निर्माण, पैकेजिंग और विपणन के लिए निरंतर सहयोग और मार्गदर्शन प्रदान कर रहा है। यह अभिनव पहल इन ग्रामीण महिलाओं को आत्मनिर्भर बनाने के साथ ही उन्हें स्थाई आजीविका और उद्यमिता के नये अवसर प्रदान कर रही है। साथ ही यह पहल इन महिलाओं की सृजनशीलता, परिश्रम और नवाचार की भी मिसाल है, जो अन्य स्व-सहायता समूह के लिए प्रेरणा बन गई है।परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी रायपुर से मैं विकल्प शुक्ला!”

The mass nesting of Olive Ridley sea turtles, an annual phenomenon called ‘Arribada’, will begin in Odisha’s Marine Sanctuaries on the 1st of November. This nesting season continues until May of next year.
“Olive Ridley sea turtles are reaching the coastal area of Odisha’s Puri district for mass nesting. Because of the safety of these turtles, the state government bans the fishing process in the Bay of Bengal Sea from the Astaranga coastal area to the Satapada area. Similarly, the state government declared Puri’s coast as a ‘marine sanctuary’.
As per the forest department source, for the safest nesting process of olive ridley turtles, the Balukhand sanctuary adjoining the sea beach is divided into thirteen parts. Along with this, twelve hatcheries have been made for the keeping of eggs. These hatcheries are made in the range of Balukhand, Brahmagiri, Konark and Astarang forest sanctuaries. Besides that, the Marine Fisheries Department, Forest Department, Marine Police and Coast Guard teams protect the Olive ridley turtles. Due to the restriction of the fishing process in the Astaranga coastal area to the Satapada area, in these times fishermen facing heavy financial losses. To provide some relief, The state government gives seven thousand five hundred rupees as compensation to each fisherman. For Parikrama, Supritee mishra, Akashvani, Sambalpur.”

Jonathan Swift passed away on this day in 1745. He was an Anglo-Irish writer, essayist, satirist, and Anglican cleric. मातंगिनी हज़ारा (अंग्रेज़ी: Matangini Hazra; जन्म- 19 अक्टूबर, 1870, पश्चिम बंगाल; शहादत- 29 सितम्बर, 1942) आज जयंती है, भारत की स्वतंत्रता के लिए अपने प्राणों की आहुति देने वाली बंगाल की वीरांगनाओं में से एक मातंगिनी हज़ारा की। भारतीय इतिहास में उनका नाम बड़े ही मान-सम्मान के साथ लिया जाता है। मातंगिनी हज़ारा ने अवसर आने पर अपने अदम्य शौर्य और साहस का परिचय दिया था। ‘भारत छोड़ो आन्दोलन’ के तहत ही सशस्त्र अंग्रेज़ सेना ने आन्दोलनकारियों को रुकने के लिए कहा। मातंगिनी हज़ारा ने साहस का परिचय देते हुए राष्ट्रीय ध्वज को अपने हाथों में ले लिया और जुलूस में सबसे आगे आ गईं। इसी समय उन पर गोलियाँ दागी गईं और इस वीरांगना ने देश के लिए अपनी कुर्बानी दी।

Kundan Shah was born on this day in 1947. was an Indian film director and writer. He is known for his comedy classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) and his 1986–1987 TV series Nukkad with Saeed Akhtar Mirza. Shah made his comeback to cinema in 1993. He directed the famous Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and wrote the screenplay for the film. The film was another comic love story but it also displayed new aspects to its credit – it was the first time that the hero in the film was an absolute loser. The film starred Shahrukh Khan in one of his first roles. The film was much acclaimed and both Shah and Khan were appreciated for their work. In 1994, Shah won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie for the film. He was the first filmmaker to win this award.
