World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is marked every year on July 30 to create awareness around people who are being trafficked and are taken away against their will. It helps to educate others that trafficking in persons is a crime exploiting even women and children for tragic jobs like forced labour and sex. This day gives an opportunity to understand the harms of human trafficking and its impact on the life of the people.

Human trafficking continues to be a global threat driven by organized crime. More and more victims are being trafficked every year, across greater distances, with greater violence, for longer periods of time and for greater profit. From 2020 to 2023, there were more than two lakh victims detected globally, which is just the tip of the iceberg. The actual number of unreported cases is believed to be significantly higher.

In India also ,women and girls are trafficked within the country for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced marriage, especially in those areas where the sex ratio is highly skewed in favour of men. A significant number of children are subjected to forced labour as factory workers, domestic servants, beggars, and agriculture workers, while others have been used as child soldiers by insurgent or terrorist groups.

Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi on July 27 th Sunday participated in the celebration of Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival symbolising the birth anniversary of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I at Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple in Ariyalur district the interior part of Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister offered prayers at the Chola-era, Lord Brihadeeswara Temple amid chants of Vedic and Saivite Thirumurai. PM Modi brought a Kalasa and A Metal Pot with traditional decorations which contained water from River Ganga and circumambulated the inner corridor of the ancient temple, a part of the great living Chola temples, an UNESCO heritage site. Mr. Modi offered prayers at the Shiva temple built by Rajendra Chola I, which is famous for its imposing architecture and exquisite sculptures. Prime Minister was received with poorna kumbam honours. He performed aarathi to the presiding deity. Gangaikonda Cholapuram was the Victory city; constructed by Rajendra Chola following his victorious maritime expedition to South East Asia about 1,000 years ago. The special celebration commemorates 1,000 years of Rajendra Chola’s legendary maritime expedition to South East Asia and the commencement of the construction of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple, a magnificent example of Chola architecture and the thousand years of birthday of Rajendra Chola, which was graced by Shri. Narendra Modi. Paying glowing tributes to the military might and administrative acumen of Rajendra Chola I and his father Rajaraja Chola in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the heights reached by the emperors were a source of inspiration, providing an ancient road map for the country to become a developed nation. Earlier in the day, PM Modi also held a roadshow in Gangaikonda Cholapuram where he stood on the running board of his vehicle and waved at the people who lined up on both sides of the road. Prime Minister Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various development projects, in Tuticorin the Southern Tamil Nadu which included the new terminal of Tuticorin airport and the extended runway. Prime Minister launched a few more completed projects on an outlay of ₹4,900 crore in various parts of Tamil Nadu. According to FPI and secretary Smaraki Mahapatra, the state is working on developing proper logistics to facilitate export of the beans. The department is to sit for consultations with the Coffee Board of India and will bring in experts to improve both cultivation and marketing practices. Kalimpong coffee matches the quality of beans from Kenya and Vietnam.
Farmers are already exporting to countries like Australia, the US and Korea. The aim now is to brand it formally and build global visibility. At present, around one thousand 2 hundred and 50 farmers are growing coffee in the hills—three-fourths in Kalimpong, the rest in Darjeeling. Demand is growing rapidly. Kalimpong filter coffee has found takers in Kolkata, Siliguri, Kathmandu and Sikkim. Some of the brands are now available at Biswa Bangla stores. A recent bulk order saw a truckload of parchment coffee dispatched to Kerala. Three new value-added products—Green Coffee, Coffee Body Scrub, and Himalayan Choco Coffee—are also being developed and will hit the market soon. Assam Government recently commissioned 100 new distribution substations in the State to improve power supply and bring down voltage fluctuation. The State required an estimated investment of around Rs 30,000 crore to completely revamp the transmission and distribution network. More from our Correspondent:
Assam witnessed a significant boost in its power infrastructure with the commissioning of 100 new distribution substations in a single day. The State Government is working to set up another 96 sub-stations, under the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank , assisted System Enhancement and Loss Reduction Project and it is likely to be completed by December this year. More than 20,000 new transformers have been installed under different projects during the last three years. Simultaneously, under the Central government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, 12,000 km of new high tension lines have been installed, and 15,000 km of low tension lines converted from bare conductors to insulated cables. The State has around 3 lakh km of Low Tension lines at present and most of it is in poor condition and required an estimated investment of around Rs 30,000 crore to completely revamp the transmission and distribution network. Maintaining a healthy ratio between Low tension and High Tension helps to minimize distribution losses and improve voltage regulation at the consumer end. The aggregate technical & commercial losses in the State in the year ending March 2025 were 15.4 per cent. The number of electricity consumers in the State has been increasing. Benchmark domestic equity indices ended with modest gains, extending their positive momentum for second straight session in a rangebound trade today. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, climbed 144 points, to close at 81 thousand 482. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 advanced 34 points, to settle at 24 thousand 855. The broader market indices at the BSE also closed up. Both the Mid-Cap and the Small-Cap indices added 0.17 per cent each.

Mirza Wajid Ali Shah (Urdu: واجد علی شاه) (30 July 1822 – 1 September 1887) was the eleventh and last King of Awadh, holding the position for 9 years, from 13 February 1847 to 11 February 1856. Wajid Ali Shah’s first wife was Alam Ara who was better known as Khas Mahal (transl. special wife) because of her exquisite beauty. She was one of two Nikahi[clarification needed] wives. His second wife, Muhammadi Khanum, better known as the Begum Hazrat Mahal, rose against the British East India Company during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 as the regent of Awadh.
His kingdom, long protected by the East India Company (EIC) under a treaty, was annexed by the EIC on 11 February 1856, two days before the ninth anniversary of his coronation. The Nawab was exiled to Garden Reach in Metiabruz, then a suburb of Kolkata, where he lived out the rest of his life on a generous pension. He was a poet, playwright, dancer and great patron of the arts. He introduced Kathak, a major form of classical Indian dance as a court dance after the decline of Mughals for recreation activity.
Wajid Ali Shah succeeded the throne of Awadh when the kingdom was in decline. The British East India Company (EIC) had annexed much of the kingdom under its rule in a treaty signed with the Nawabs in 1801 and stymied the Awadh economy by imposing the costs of maintaining the Bengal Army on the kingdom’s coffer, in addition to repeatedly demanding loans. However, the EIC refrained from annexing the remainder of the kingdom because they needed a buffer state between their territories to the east and south, and the Mughal Empire to the north.
Wajid Ali Shah ascended the throne of Oudh at a time when the East India Company was determined to annex the throne of the prosperous Awadh, which was “the garden, granary, and queen-province of India”- the royal predecessors and successors of Awadh were one of the major threats to the dominance of the Mughal Empire before the arrival of the East India Company to the Indian subcontinent.
When he became king he took keen interest in the administration of justice, introduced reforms, and reorganised the military. Wajid Ali Shah was widely regarded as a debauched and detached ruler. Some of his notoriety seems to have been misplaced. The British Resident of Lucknow, General William Sleeman, submitted a report highlighting “maladministration” and “lawlessness” he described as prevailing there. Sleeman himself was strictly opposed to outright annexation for a variety of reasons, including political, financial and ethical ones.

महाश्वेता देवी को उनके अद्भुत लेखन और सामाजिक योगदान के लिए कई सम्मान मिले, जिनमें शामिल हैं: साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, पद्म श्री, पद्म विभूषण, और भारत का सर्वोच्च साहित्यिक सम्मान – ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार। 28 जुलाई 2016 को उन्होंने इस दुनिया को अलविदा कहा। लेकिन उनकी कलम और उनके विचार आज भी ज़िंदा हैं
