Now time for our segment DATELINE INDIA in which we take a look at the developments taking place at national or global level. Today we will talk about World Asthma Day
May is Asthma Awareness Month.
Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. Asthma can be controlled by taking medicine and avoiding the triggers that can cause an attack. You must also remove the triggers in your environment that can make your asthma worse.
It is a chronic respiratory condition characterised by inflammation and narrowing of the airways.
Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound (wheezing) when you breathe out and shortness of breath.
For some people, asthma is a minor nuisance. For others, it can be a major problem that interferes with daily activities and may lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.
Asthma can’t be cured, but its symptoms can be controlled. Because asthma often changes over time, it’s important that you work with your doctor to track your signs and symptoms and adjust your treatment as needed.
World Asthma Day is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about asthma, globally. Every year this day is observed on the first Tuesday of May. Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterised by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
The theme for World Asthma Day 2024 is ‘Asthma Education Empowers.’ This year’s theme focuses on empowering people with asthma by educating them about asthma management and the need to seek timely medical help.
Breathing in hot air can trigger asthmatic symptoms. The hot and dry or hot and humid weather during summer can cause airways to narrow and tighten. People with asthma may find it harder to breathe in such conditions.

In Telangana almost all arrangements are in place for the polling to be held in all 17 Lok Sabha Constituencies. The polling will be held on 13th of this month.
In Telangana, the Lok Sabha elections are having many specials this time as they are being held in less than 6 months after the election held for the third Legislative Assembly last year. Over 3 crore 32 lakh voters will decide the political future of the total 525 candidates, including 50 women, who are contesting in all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The highest number of 45 candidates are in the fray in Secunderabad while the lowest number of 12 are in the contest in Adilabad. The poll authorities have set up a total 35 thousand 809 polling stations and 453 auxiliary polling stations. They also will have to use a large number of ballot units as in 7 constituencies there is a need to use 3 ballot units at each polling station while in 9 seats there is a need for using 2 ballot units at each station. With this, the authorities required one lakh nine thousand 941 ballot units while Control units remained at over 44 thousand and VVPATs at over 50 thousand. Marine heatwaves are rare extreme weather events that involve prolonged periods of abnormally high ocean tempeatures. Researchers of the Central Marine Fisheries Institute in Kochi have recorded wide spread bleaching event in Lakshadweep Sea due to marine heatwaves, impacting the coral reefs in the archipelago.
“The Degree Heating Week or the DHW indicator, which measures accumulated heat stress has surged above four degree celsius weeks in the Lakshadweep Sea, a level which poses substantial risk of coral bleaching and threatening the region’s diverse marine eco systems. Survey results from various Lakshadweep islands revealed that a considerable percentage of the hard coral species have undergone severe bleaching, primarily due to prolonged period of heat waves affecting the region since October last year. Such heat stress levels signify a severe threat to coral health, as they lose their symbiotic algae, compromising their survival by depriving them of essential nutrients. Scientists say that if the DHW continues to rise, reaching beyond 12 degree celsius week levels, it could precipitate a biodiversity crisis due to multi-species mortality. The health of the marine eco systems is integral to the livelihoods of coastal communities, and affects the tourism and fisheries sectors as well. Experts point out that the destruction of coral reefs leave the coastal communitites vulnerable to the impacts of sea level aggressions. The degradation of the marine eco systems can lead to a collapse of the local marine food webs, affecting a wide range of marine species, from fish communities to marine mammals.” Raj Mohan, Akshavani News, Kochi

That golden era of the Bollywood music world, when every song touched the heart, when there was such a harmony of music and music that listening to it, either the eyes would become moist or the heart would dance in the shower of love.
That was the golden era of the fifties and seventies, and in the same decade, a priest of art spread many colors of his versatile talent on the land of Bollywood in such a way that the music world became green. I am talking about the genius lyricist, composer, actor, and choreographer Prem Dhawan whose patriotic songs, “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola,” “Aye Mere Pyare Watan,” “Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein,” “Aye Watan Aye Watan Humko Teri Kasam,” is still ranked among the top ten patriotic songs.
