India has successfully tested Bhargavastra, a homegrown counter-drone system, designed to neutralize drone threats.. Dubbed ‘Bhargavastra’, the cost-effective system has been created in hard kill mode. Its micro rockets were test-fired recently at the Seaward Firing Range in Odisha’s coastal town of Gopalpur. The successful launch comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan since the 22nd April Pahalgam terror attack that led to the Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor.

सोलर डिफेंस द्वारा विकसित यह प्रणाली 2.5 किमी तक ड्रोन झुंड नष्ट कर सकती है। माइक्रो रॉकेट्स और मिसाइलों से लैस यह सिस्टम भारत की वायु रक्षा को मजबूत करेगा। इस सिस्टम की दूसरी परत माइक्रो गाइडेड मिसाइल है, जो सटीक निशाना साधती है। इसमें एक साथ 64 माइक्रो मिसाइल दागने की क्षमता है। काउंटर-ड्रोन सिस्टम में एकीकृत सुरक्षा के लिए जैमिंग और स्पूफिंग को शामिल करने के लिए एक अतिरिक्त सॉफ्ट-किल लेयर भी शामिल की गई है।
Its radar has a range of 6 to 10 km for locating small aerial threats. As it is a modular system, the sensors and the shooter can be put together as per requirement to provide a layered and tiered Air Defence cover, helping in engaging targets at longer ranges. According to Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited, its indigenous design and development of rockets and micro-missiles will neutralise hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Bhargavastra is a big leap for India’s counter-drone technology. Bhargavastra system uses micro rockets to eliminate drone targets and is designed to respond swiftly to large-scale drone threats. The performance of the mini rockets used in this counter-drone system duiring test fire was excellent. It is a strategic leap in counter-drone warfare. The system is a boost to the government’s “Make in India” policy, adding to India’s defence capabilities.

“The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) today organized the ‘Inclusive India Summit’ in New Delhi to mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Department, Rajesh Aggarwal emphasized the importance of access to language, life, learning, and livelihood for persons with disabilities. He highlighted the government’s efforts to promote sign language learning and urged corporate sector to create disability-friendly environment. Mr. Aggarwal encouraged persons with disabilities to demand their rights and expressed confidence that 90 percent of them have the potential to become productive members of society. The summit is aimed at promoting inclusive development and digital accessibility for persons with disabilities across the country. Observed annually on the third Thursday of May, Global Accessibility Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness around digital access and inclusion. The Inclusive India Summit aligns with this global mission, highlighting India’s commitment to making technology and public services more inclusive for all.”

उत्तराखंड में नैनीताल जिले के काठगोदाम से आज से आदि कैलाश और ओम पर्वत यात्रा शुरू हो रही है। कुमाऊं मंडल विकास निगम ने तीर्थयात्रियों की सुविधा और सुरक्षा के व्यापक इंतजाम किए हैं।
“आदि कैलाश और ओम पर्वत यात्रा के लिए आज 19 सदस्यीय पहला दल काठगोदाम से रवाना होगा। इस दल में उत्तराखंड से सात, जबकि महाराष्ट और तमिलनाडु से 6-6 यात्री शामिल हैं। 12 पुरूष और 7 महिलाओं का यह दल काठगोदाम से रवाना होकर नैनीताल, अल्मोड़ा और पिथौरागढ़ के विभिन्न मंदिरों के दर्शन करने के साथ ही गूंजी पहुंचेगा। जहां से जॉलिंगकोंग में आदि कैलाश और नाभीढांग में ओम पर्वत के दर्शन किए जाएंगे। अब तक 102 श्रद्धालुओं ने यात्रा के लिए पंजीकरण किया है।”

Healthy plants provide nutrient-rich diets for humans and animals and help promote a balanced ecosystem. Pest-infected plants can trigger a spill of negative effects on food supplies and induce outbreaks of zoonotic diseases transmitted through harmful pathogens. Pesticides play a role in pest management but their overuse and poor management cause biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, ecosystem dysfunction, food safety concerns, pesticide resistance, food chain collapse leading to hunger, malnutrition and economic instability.
“Plants provide over 80 percent of the human diet, 98 percent of our oxygen and are the primary feed source for livestock. They are a vital source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre that is essential for human and animal health. Protecting plant health ensures consistent food availability and safety and supports nutritional security. Talking to PARIKRAMA, Chief Scientist and Director Extension at Sher e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir, Prof Raihana Habib Kanth said: Plants are not just a backdrop to human and animal life, they are central to the health of our entire planet. One Health approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of people, animals, plants and ecosystems. The plant health is a vital but often underrecognized pillar. There is a need to raise awareness and take action to keep plants, animals, humans and the environment healthy. There is a universal call that when we protect plants, we protect lives.”

“The Lairai Devi Jatra, held annually in Shirgao village, Bicholim (Goa), is one of the region’s most prominent religious festivals. Celebrated in honor of Goddess Lairai, the event is steeped in folklore. According to legend, Lairai is one of seven divine sisters and a brother—Kelbai, Mahamaya, Morjai, Mirabai, Sheetalai, Ajadipa, and Khetoba—each choosing a different village in Goa as their spiritual home. Lairai Devi chose Shirgao, where she is worshipped with great devotion. The festival’s highlight is the dramatic Agnidivya, a fire-walking ritual performed by devotees also known as dhonds who prepare through fasting, purification, and abstinence. Dressed in saffron or white dhotis, they walk barefoot across burning embers, symbolizing their unwavering faith and spiritual purity. Jasmine flowers, believed to be the goddess’s favorite, adorn the temple and surroundings. In the days leading up to the event, Shirgao transforms into a vibrant spiritual hub. Streets bustle with markets selling religious offerings, sweets, and local delicacies, while folk music, devotional hymns, and temple bells echo through the air. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual and electric. The festival usually occurs in April or May, based on the Hindu lunar calendar. It includes grand processions, traditional rituals, and communal prayers. The palkhi procession—where the goddess’s idol is carried through the village with music and dance—adds to the celebration’s grandeur. The Lairai Jatra is not just a religious event but a cultural cornerstone, drawing thousands of devotees and tourists each year to witness this powerful expression of faith.”

- The benchmark domestic equity indices today staged a sharp trend reversal, ending with gains of around one and half percent with Nifty reclaiming the 25,000 mark for the first time since October 2024. The market sentiment remained upbeat amid heavy buying in index heavy weights and metal, auto, and realty counters, stable fourth quarter earnings report and renewed optimism over a potential India-US trade pact. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, surged 1,200 points, or 1.48 percent to close at 82,531. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 jumped 395 points, or 1.6 percent to settle at 25,062.
- In the Indian bullion market, 24-karat gold was trading down at 92,380 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was also trading down at 94,940 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson passed away on this day in 1886. She was an American poet. Little-known during her life, she has since been regarded as one of the most important figures in American poetry. Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, into a prominent family with strong ties to its community. Evidence suggests that Dickinson lived much of her life in isolation. Although Dickinson was a prolific writer, her only publications during her lifetime were one letter and 10 of her nearly 1,800 poems. The poems published then were usually edited significantly to fit conventional poetic rules. Her poems were unique for her era; they contain short lines, typically lack titles, and often use slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalisation and punctuation. Many of her poems deal with themes of death and immortality (two recurring topics in letters to her friends), aesthetics, society, nature, and spirituality.

कोडंडेरा मडप्पा करिअप्पा (28 जनवरी, 1899 – मृत्यु: 15 मई, 1993) –
भारत के पहले ‘कमाण्डर इन चीफ़’ कोडंडेरा मडप्पा करिअप्पा यानी के एम् करिअप्पा को आज हम याद कर रहे हैं जिनकी आज पुण्य तिथि है । करिअप्पा ने जनरल के रूप में 15 जनवरी, 1949 को पदभार संभाला। इसके बाद से ही 15 जनवरी को ‘सेना दिवस’ के रूप में मनाया जाने लगा। अपनी अभूतपूर्व योग्यता और नेतृत्व के गुणों के कारण करिअप्पा ने अनेक मोर्चों पर भारतीय सेना का सफल नेतृत्व किया था। करिअप्पा के सेवा के क्षेत्र में स्मरणीय योगदान के लिए 1979 में भारत सरकार ने उन्हें ‘फ़ील्ड मार्शल’ की मानद उपाधि देकर सम्मानित किया।

Sir Rajen Mookerjee –
Sir Rajen Mookerjee passed away on this day in 1936. He was a pioneering Bengali Indian industrialist. His mother raised Rajen Mookerjee after his father died when he was six. He studied engineering for three years at the present-day Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, then located at Presidency College, Calcutta. He started as a contractor and later earned fame as an engineer and businessman. Along with Sir Thomas Acquin Martin, he founded Martin & Co. and contributed to the success of Bengal Iron at Kulti. Later, he joined G.H. Fairhurst in founding the iron works of The Indian Iron and Steel Company at Burnpur. Present Day’s Garden Reach Ship Builders and Hooghly Dock are also his contributions. Among his achievements were the construction of Palta water works and the Victoria Memorial and Howrah Bridge(Old) at Kolkata. Later, His Company developed the Bridge in 1945 into a Cantilever Bridge, which is now known as Rabindra Setu. Besides business, he Also Founded the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) with the inspiration of Prasanta Chandra Mohalanobis. In 1908, Mookerjee was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire (CIE). In 1911, he became the sheriff of Kolkata. Also in 1911, he was knighted with the KCIE. In 1922, Mookerjee was further honoured with the dignity of a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO). In 1931, the University of Calcutta honoured him with an honorary Doctor of Science degree. (Engineering). He presided over the 8th session of the Indian Science Congress , held in Kolkata in 1921.

कालिंदी चरण पाणिग्रही (अंग्रेज़ी: Kalindi Charan Panigrahi, जन्म- 2 जुलाई, 1901; मृत्यु- 15 मई, 1991) प्रसिद्ध उड़िया कवि, उपन्यासकार, कहानीकार, नाटककार और निबंधकार थे। वह अपनी महान कृति ‘मतिरा मनीषा’ के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। उन्हें ओडिया साहित्य में योगदान के लिए पद्म भूषण (1971) और साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था। कालिंदी चरण पाणिग्राही, ने प्रेम तथा प्रणय को युवाओ का अधिकार बताया। उनका मानना था कि प्रेम पल भर के लिए किया जा सकता है लेकिन उसका प्रभाव दीर्घस्थायी होता है।

Tenzing Norgay was born on this day in 1914. Born Namgyal Wangdi, and also referred to as Sherpa Tenzing, was a Nepalese-Indian Sherpa mountaineer. On 29 May 1953, he and Edmund Hillary were the first confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest, as part of the 1953 British Mount Everest expedition. Time named Norgay one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Madhuri Dixit Nene was born on May 15, 1967. She is an Indian actress and television personality. She has appeared in over 70 Hindi films, attaining nationwide stardom that influenced Indian popular culture. माधुरी दीक्षित ने अपनी शुरूआती पढ़ाई मुंबई से की और माइक्रोबायोलिजिस्ट बनने के लिए कॉलेज में दाखिला लिया। इस बीच उन्होंने आठ साल तक नृत्य शिक्षा भी ली। उन्होंने पढ़ाई के साथ साथ 1984 में आई फिल्म अबोध से बॉलीवुड में डैब्यू किया हालांकि ये फिल्म कुछ खास कमाल नही दिखा पाई। इसके बाद उन्होंने अपनी पढ़ाई छोड़ कर पूरी तरह फिल्मो का रूख कर लिया। साल 1988 में आई फिल्म तेज़ाब ने माधुरी दीक्षित कगी किस्मत का तारा चमका दिया। इसके बाद आई फिल्म दिल। जिसमें माधुरी दीक्षित की जोड़ी अभिनेता आमिर खाने के साथ बनी। इस फिल्म ने माधुरी की किस्मत में चार चांद लगा दिए। इसी फिल्म के लिए उन्हें पहला फिल्मफेयर पुरस्कार प्राप्त हुआ। 1991 का साल माधुरी दीक्षित के लिए बेहद अहम साबित हुआ। इसी दौरान उनकी फिल्म 100 डेज़, प्रहार और साजन प्रदर्शित हुईं। साल 1992 में आई फिल्म बेटा और 1994 की फिल्म हम आपके हैं कौन ने माधुरी दीक्षित को घर घर में पहचान दिला दी। और इस फिल्म का जो गीत था, दीदी तेरा देवर दीवाना, उसका जो क्रेज़ था वो थो हम सबको ही पता है, तो क्यों ना आज 30 साल पुरानी उस याद को फिर ताज़ा कर लिया जाए।

Debendranath Tagore was born on this day in 1817. He was an Indian philosopher and religious reformer, active in the Brahmo Samaj. He joined the Brahmo Samaj in 1842. He was the founder in 1848 of the Brahmo religion, which today is synonymous with Brahmoism. Born in Shilaidaha, his father was the industrialist Dwarakanath Tagore; he himself had 14 children, many of whom, including Nobel-prizewinning poet Rabindranath Tagore, made significant artistic or literary contributions to society.
