AN OVERVIEW OF WAVES 2025 AND World Hand Hygiene Day

The premier edition of World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit ,WAVES 2025 concluded on a high note in Mumbai testerday. NEHA we have seen an overwhelming response from exhibitors, industry leaders, startups, policymakers, academia, and the general public in the Summit. The summit emerged as a key convergence point for the media and entertainment ecosystem, drawing participation from every segment of the industry – from celebrated artists and influential content creators to tech innovators and corporate leaders.

The celebration of creativity, technology, and storytelling began with the inauguration of its maiden edition by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in a star-studded event held in Jio World Convention Centre. In his inaugural address, Prime Minister Modi remarked that WAVES is not just an acronym, it is a wave of culture, creativity and universal connectivity. World Hand Hygiene Day –

Today is World Hand Hygiene Day. Established by the World Health Organisation (WHO), World Hand Hygiene Day is an annual global campaign to promote and improve good hand hygiene practices in the healthcare sector. And yet, despite modern awareness campaigns, antimicrobial resistance, and the devastating global toll of COVID-19, hand hygiene remains one of the most overlooked tools in our health arsenal. The global observance aims to raise awareness about the essential role of hand hygiene, specifically in preventing serious and possibly fatal healthcare-associated infections .

हर दिन, औसत व्यक्ति एक घंटे में 16 से 23 बार अपने चेहरे को हाथ लगाता है। इनमें से प्रत्येक स्पर्श रोगजनकों के हमारे सिस्टम में प्रवेश करने का एक संभावित मार्ग है। हमारी उंगलियाँ दरवाज़े के हैंडल, करेंसी नोट, मोबाइल फ़ोन और सार्वजनिक रेलिंग से बैक्टीरिया को हमारी आँखों, नाक और मुँह तक ले जाती हैं। इसके परिणामस्वरूप फ्लू, नोरोवायरस या इससे भी बदतर साल्मोनेला और हेपेटाइटिस जैसे वायरस का सूक्ष्म लेकिन खतरनाक हस्तांतरण होता है।

A research shows that proper hand hygiene can reduce respiratory infections by up to 21% and gastrointestinal infections by over 30%. According to WHO data, 30,000 women and 400,000 babies die each year from infections like puerperal sepsis, largely due to poor sanitation and handwashing practices during childbirth. These are preventable deaths.

नियमित और उचित तरीके से हाथ धोने से हानिकारक रोगाणुओं का संचरण काफी हद तक कम हो जाता है जो मधुमेह, हृदय रोग और श्वसन संबंधी बीमारियों जैसी स्थितियों से हमे बचा सकते हैं। स्वच्छ हाथों को बढ़ावा देकर, हम न केवल अस्पताल से होने वाले संक्रमणों को कम करते हैं बल्कि उन कमज़ोर आबादी की भी रक्षा करते हैं जिनकी पुरानी बीमारियाँ उन्हें गंभीर परिणामों के प्रति अधिक संवेदनशील बनाती हैं। इस वर्ष का अभियान इस बात पर ज़ोर देता है कि स्वच्छ हाथ दीर्घकालिक स्वास्थ्य और बीमारी की रोकथाम में एक महत्वपूर्ण पहला कदम है। इस अभियान का उद्देश्य अनावश्यक दस्ताने के उपयोग के पर्यावरणीय प्रभाव को संबोधित करना और बीमारियों के प्रसार को रोकने में हाथ की स्वच्छता के महत्व को बढ़ावा देना है।

क्षेत्रीय विशेष –

राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग ने राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली में पांच दिवसीय महिला महा जनसुनवाई शिविर शुरू किया है। दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री रेखा गुप्ता और राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग (एनसीडब्ल्यू) की अध्यक्ष विजया के रहाटकर ने इस शिविर का उद्घाटन किया.

“National Commision for Women has initiated five days Mahila Maha Jansunwai Camp in the national capital. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW) Vijaya K Rahatkar inaugurated this camp. During her address Mrs. Gupta said that this is a very good beginning. She expressed hope that all distressed women would get quick justice. She said that such a camp gives quick action on all pending cases of Delhi.Chairperson of NCW Mrs. Rahatkar said that the objective of this camp is to provide quick and effective solutions to complaints against women. She said that NCW is running such programs in different states of the country. She said that with the speed at which the commission is working on the complaints of women, it seems that all the complaints will be resolved by the end of the year.”

NOW MOVING TO GOA

The Handicrafts Corporation of the State Government of Goa recentaly organised a handicraft sale and exhibition in Mapusa. Artisans from Goa as well as others states join the participated in the exhibition.

“A vibrant splash of color and culture is lighting up Mapusa, Goa, as a handicraft sale and exhibition continues at the premises of Shri Bodgeshwar Temple. Organized by the Handicrafts Corporation of the Goa Government, the event—titled Aparant Mand—celebrates the creativity of artisans from Goa and other states. Over 150 skilled craftsmen have set up stalls at the venue, showcasing everything from eco-friendly home décor and children’s items to traditional clothing and accessories. This is more than just a market—it’s a platform to support and celebrate handmade, sustainable art.”

One of the star attractions this year is the Kantha cloth stall, drawing crowds with its vivid embroidery and intricate designs. These versatile pieces—found on sarees, shawls, bed sheets, and more—blend artistic heritage with practical use, making them a favorite among those looking for festive yet comfortable wear. Visitors still have a few days to experience the magic. The exhibition runs daily from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, and wraps up on April 4, with a closing ceremony scheduled at 6 PM on Friday.

For the first time in 16 years, a five-year-old Asiatic lioness, Mahagauri, delivered four cubs at New Delhi’s National Zoological Park last week. Zoo officials confirmed that the cubs have been fathered by male Asiatic lion Maheshwar. Unfortunately, two of the cubs succumbed to death because of poor health. Our Correspondet reports that Currently the rest of the cubs and Mahagauri are being monitored around the clock by the zoo officials through CCTV cameras.

“Zookeepers are carrying out what is required because the newborns’ health stays the first priority of the zoo authority.Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Director of the National Zoological Park, New Delhi, Dr. Sanjeet Kumar has said that this first birth of Mahagauri is so naturally motherly instinct is very less in the lioness. To cope with that, the zoo authority is keenly observing and taking care of the cubs and the mother. The National Zoological Park, which houses more than a thousand animals, has also taken several steps to combat the severe summer heat wave. Talking to Akashvani News, Director of the National Zoological Park, New Delhi, Dr. Sanjeet Kumar has said that they are changing the diets of the animals in accordance with the season. He added that water rich vegetables and fruits are being given to the animals to keep them hydrated. Currently, the zoo houses six asiatic lions including the two new borns and the zoo authority are closesly monitoring the animals in the wake of rising temperature in the national capital.”

The benchmark domestic equity indices today ended in positive territory buoyed by buying across all sectors barring banking. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, climbed 295 points, or 0.37 percent to close at 80,797. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 jumped 114 points, or 0.47 percent to settle at 24,461.

In the Indian bullion market, 24-karat gold was trading up at 94,930 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was also trading up at 94,910 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

कर्नल होशियार सिंह –

परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित कर्नल होशियार सिंह का आज जन्मदिन है। उन्‍हें यह सम्मान सन् 1971 में मिला। कर्नल होशियार सिंह का जन्म 5 मई, 1936 को सोनीपत, हरियाणा के सोनीपत में हुआ था। वह एक मेधावी छात्र थे। पढ़ाई के साथ-साथ वह खेल कूद में भी आगे रहते थे। होशियार सिंह पहले राष्ट्रीय चैम्पियनशिप के लिए बॉलीबाल की पंजाब कंबाइंड टीम के लिए चुने गए और वह टीम फिर राष्ट्रीय टीम चुन ली गई जिसके कैप्टन होशियार सिंह थे। इस टीम का एक मैच जाट रेजिमैटल सेंटर के एक उच्च अधिकारी ने देखा और होशियार सिंह उनकी नजरों में आ गए। इस तरह होशियार सिंह के फौज में आने की भूमिका बनी। 1957 में उन्होंने 2 जाट रेजिमेंट में प्रवेश लिया बाद में वह 3 ग्रेनेडियर्स में कमीशन लेकर अफसर बन गए। 1971 के युद्ध के पहले, होशियार सिंह ने 1965 में भी पाकिस्तान के ख़िलाफ़ लड़ते हुए अपना करिश्मा दिखाया था। वहीं, 1971 का युद्ध तो उनके लिए निर्णायक युद्ध था जिसके बाद उन्हें देश के सबसे बड़े सम्मान परमवीर चक्र से नवाजा गया।

Naushad Ali –

Naushad Ali passed away on this day in 2006. He was an Indian composer for Hindi films. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest and foremost music directors of the Hindi film industry. He is particularly known for popularising the use of classical music in films.

आज हिन्दी फ़िल्मों के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार नौशाद अली की पुण्यतिथि है। पहली फ़िल्म में संगीत देने के 64 साल बाद तक अपने साज का जादू बिखेरते रहने के बावजूद नौशाद ने केवल 67 फ़िल्मों में ही संगीत दिया, लेकिन उनका कौशल इस बात की जीती जागती मिसाल है कि गुणवत्ता संख्याबल से कहीं आगे होती है।

16 वर्ष की उम्र में वे मुंबई आ गये। 1940 में बनी ‘प्रेम नगर’ में नौशाद को पहली बार स्वतंत्र रूप से संगीत निर्देशन का मौका मिला। इसके बाद एक और फ़िल्म ‘स्टेशन मास्टर’ भी सफल रही। उसके बाद तो जैसे नौशाद संगीत के मोतियों की माला-सी बुनते चले गए। नौशाद को पहली बार ‘सुनहरी मकड़ी’ फ़िल्म में हारमोनियम बजाने का अवसर मिला। यह फ़िल्म पूरी नहीं हो सकी लेकिन शायद यहीं से नौशाद का सुनहरा सफ़र शुरू हुआ।

यह नौशाद के संगीत का ही जादू था कि ‘मुग़ल-ए-आजम’, ‘बैजू बावरा’, ‘अनमोल घड़ी’, ‘शारदा’, ‘आन’, ‘संजोग’ आदि कई फ़िल्मों को न केवल हिट बनाया बल्कि कालजयी भी बना दिया। ‘

दीदार’ के गीत- ‘बचपन के दिन भुला न देना’, ‘हुए हम जिनके लिए बरबाद’, ‘ले जा मेरी दुआएँ ले जा परदेश जाने वाले’ आदि की बदौलत इस फ़िल्म ने लंबे समय तक चलने का रिकॉर्ड क़ायम किया। ‘बैजू बावरा’ की सफलता से नौशाद को सर्वश्रेष्ठ संगीतकार का पहला फ़िल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड भी मिला। संगीत में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए फालके अवॉर्ड, ‘लता अलंकरण’ तथा 1992 में पद्म भूषण से उन्हें नवाज़ा गया।

Viruthachalam –

Viruthachalam passed away on this day in 1948. better known by the pseudonym Pudhumaipithan, was one of the most influential and revolutionary writers of Tamil fiction. His works were characterized by social satire, progressive thinking and outspoken criticism of accepted conventions. He as an individual and his works have been extensively reviewed and debated for over sixty years since his death. His influence has been accepted and appreciated by the present-day writers and critics of Tamil fiction. In 2002, the Government of Tamil Nadu nationalised the works of Pudumaippithan.

आज जन्‍मदिन है भारतीय अभिनेत्री और नर्तकी चित्रा सेन की। चित्रा सेन ने मुख्य रूप से बंगाली फिल्मों और टीवी धारावाहिकों में काम किया है। इसके साथ ही उन्होंने थिएटर में भी काफी काम किया है। उन्होंने ज्ञानेश मुखोपाध्याय के निर्देशन में अपने करियर की शुरुआत की थी। चित्रा सेन ने बंगाली फिल्म उद्योग में कई महत्वपूर्ण भूमिकाएँ निभाई हैं। उनकी प्रमुख फिल्‍मों में “जौतुक”, “सिटी ऑफ़ जॉय” (1992), “कन्यादान” (1993), और “भोय” शामिल है। चित्रा सेन का जन्म 1946 में हुआ था। उन्होंने अपनी शुरुआती शिक्षा कलकत्ता विश्वविद्यालय में प्राप्त की। उन्होंने 1950 के दशक में बंगाली फिल्म उद्योग में प्रवेश किया।

आज पुण्‍यतिथि है भारतीय क्रिकेटर सुरेन्द्र नाथ की। उन्‍होंने 1958 और 1961 के बीच टेस्ट मैच खेले। वह मुख्य रूप से मध्यम गति के स्विंग गेंदबाज थे।
