Today the country pays tribute to the brave hearts who sacrificed their lives while protecting India.
Infantry Day is being observed across the country today to acknowledge the contributions of Infantry, the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army. This day has a unique significance, as on this day in 1947, Infantry-men from the Indian Army became the first troops to land at Srinagar airport, forcing the invaders backed by Pakistan to withdraw.
On this occasion, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi laid wreaths at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
भारतीय सेना हर साल 27 अक्टूबर को ‘इन्फैंट्री डे के रूप में मनाती है। इस दिन जब सिख रेजिमेंट की पहली बटालियन श्रीनगर एयरबेस पर उतरी और दृढ़ता और असाधारण साहस का परिचय दिया और पाकिस्तानी सेना के बुरे मंसूबों को विफल करने के लिए ‘दी वॉल बन गई, जिसने 1947 में आदिवासी हमलावरों की मदद से कश्मीर पर आक्रमण किया था।
सन् 1947 में 26 अक्टूबर को जम्मू और कश्मीर का भारत में विलय हो गया. इसके लिए जम्मू और कश्मीर के महाराजा हरि सिंह ने विलय पत्र पर आधिकारिक तौर पर हस्ताक्षर किये. तत्कालीन पाकिस्तान सरकार इस बात को पचा नहीं पाई. इसके बाद जम्मू और कश्मीर पर कब्जे की नियत से पाकिस्तान सरकार ने आदिवासियों को आगे कर जम्मू और कश्मीर पर हमला कर दिया. मामले की जानकारी मिलते ही भारत के तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री जवाहर लाल नेहरू ने भारतीय सेना को कार्रवाई करने का आदेश दिया. भारतीय सेना की ओर से 1-सिख रेजिमेंट को ऑपरेशन के लिए जम्मू-कश्मीर भेजा गया. सिख रेजिमेंट ने 27 अक्टूबर को जम्मू और कश्मीर में आक्रमण कर पाकिस्तानी लड़ाकों को पीछे हटने के लिए मजबूर किया.

इन्फैंट्री डे को स्वतंत्र भारत की पहली सैन्य घटना की याद के रूप में मनाया जाता है, 27 अक्टूबर 1947 को कश्मीर घाटी में पाकिस्तानी सेना और लश्कर आक्रमणकारी द्वारा जम्मू-कश्मीर को हथियाने की कोशिश की गई तब भारतीय सेना की सिख रेजिमेंट की पहली बटालियन ने भारतीय धरती पर पहले हमले पर जीत हासिल करने के लिए लड़ाई लड़ी थी।
The first Indian battalion was then commanded by Lt Col Dewan Ranjit Rai. After securing the Srinagar airfield, the Indian soldiers rushed to Baramulla to stop the invaders in their tracks. Lt Col Dewan Ranjit Rai was able to delay the advances of the invaders towards Srinagar but he was martyred near Baramulla.

हिमाचल प्रदेश भाषा व संस्कृति विभाग द्वारा शिमला के ऐतिहासिक गेयटी थियेटर में 22 से 24 अक्तूबर तक 3 दिवसीय शिमला संगीत महोत्सव 2024 आयोजित किया गया। इस महोत्सव में प्रसिद्ध शास्त्रीय संगीत कलाकारों ने भाग लिया। कार्यक्रम में हिमाचल प्रदेश के निवासी, पटियाला घराने के हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय गायक पद्मश्री सोम दत्त बट्टू को सम्मानित किया।
शिमला संगीत महोत्सव 2024 के पहले दिन शास्त्रीय संगीतकार और प्रसिद्ध सरोद वादक अर्नव चक्रवर्ती द्वारा सरोद पर राग माल गूंजी, लोकप्रिय कत्थक नर्तक मंजरी चतुर्वेदी व मीता पंडित द्वारा ग्वालियर के राज दरबार के लोकप्रिय रहे सूफी कथक नृत्य व गायन प्रस्तुत किया गया। मंजरी चतुर्वेदी ग्वालियर घराने से लेकर शाही दरबारों की परंपराओं तक के गीत और कहानियां प्रस्तुत करती हैं वहीं मीता पंडित ग्वालियर घराने के पंडित परिवार की छठी अखंड वंशावली जिसने 200 से अधिक वर्षों से शास्त्रीय संगीत को जीवित रखा है। आयोजन के दूसरे दिन पण्डित विद्याधर व्यास द्वारा राग भीमपलासी, राग दुर्गा और गायन विधा की विशेष शैली तिरवट प्रस्तुत कर श्रोताओं को मंत्रमुग्ध कर दिया। इसके अलावा सुनंदा शर्मा व राजेंद्र प्रसन्ना द्वारा गायन व बांसुरी की जुगलबंदी की प्रस्तुति भी अत्यंत सराहनीय रही। सुनंदा शर्मा, जो हिमाचल प्रदेश के जिला कांगड़ा से संबंध रखती है ने ख्याल, ठुमरी, दादरा, चैती और कजरी जैसे विविध संगीत रूपों में महारत हासिल की है वहीं राजेंद्र प्रसन्ना एक प्रसिद्ध भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीतकार हैं जिन्हें बांसुरी और शहनाई दोनों में महारत हासिल है। आयोजन के तीसरे और अंतिम दिन अभय सोपोरी द्वारा संतूर वादन और वारसी भाईयों नसीर अहमद वारसी व नजीर अहमद वारसी द्वारा पारम्परिक राग में नात और कव्वाली की मनमोहक प्रस्तुतियां दी गईं। निदेशक भाषा एवं संस्कृति विभाग डॉ पंकज ललित ने बताया कि इस दौरान एक कार्यशाला का आयोजन भी किया गया जिसमें लगभग 80 विद्यार्थियों को प्रसिद्ध गायक विद्याधर व्यास ने संगीत से जुड़ी बारिकियों का प्रशिक्षण दिया। परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी शिमला से, रितेश कपूर।

Traditionally this music festival is a week-long celebration before Tihar which draws music lovers from across the Himalayan Nation. The festival will end on October 30 with international jazz bands from USA, Spain, Australia, Switzerland, Germany and local Nepali bands playing jazz for music lovers. The much-awaited Rajouri-Nowshera highway which is part of Jammu-Poonch National Highway (NH144) in Jammu division is almost finished and is set to greatly improve travel in the border district. The project, which has been under construction for several years, is in its final stages. This important road project includes nine new bridges, one of which is 350 meters long and a tunnel, all designed to make travel faster and safer. The new bridges, built to handle heavy traffic and tough weather, will make it much easier to travel between Rajouri and Nowshera. The 350 meter bridge is a significant achievement, making travel across difficult areas smoother.More from our correspondent:
Another major feature of Rajouri-Nowshera highway is the Nowshera Tunnel, which will significantly enhance connectivity during adverse weather conditions. This tunnel is expected to ensure smooth vehicular movement year-round, particularly benefiting the local population and businesses that rely on regular transport access. The tunnel has been built to bypass tricky mountain sections, cutting down travel time and ensuring the road stays open all year. The upgraded highway is expected to boost local business, tourism, and make life easier for residents, while also improving important defence routes in the region. The highway is expected to be officially opened in the coming months, marking a major step forward in J&K’s infrastructure development. The highway serves as a crucial link between the districts of Jammu and Poonch and will boost connectivity and promote development, particularly in the border areas. Undertaken by the SGI construction company, the project promises to transform the region by improving road infrastructure and reducing travel times, ultimately enhancing tourism and local economies. The highway will address the long-standing issue of poor connectivity in these border areas, which has hindered their development and discouraged visitors. This region has great tourism potential, but due to the lack of proper infrastructure, people have avoided coming here. After the completion of this project, tourism will get a significant boost. One of the key components of this project is a 350 meter wire duct flyover being constructed in Bathuni village, located in the Rajouri district. This flyover will not only improve travel efficiency by reducing the distance by at least two kilometres but will also upgrade the current two-lane road into a more accessible, multi-lane highway. The flyover is expected to be operational within the next few months, further streamlining travel across the region. The importance of the Rajouri-Nowshera highway extends beyond just road connectivity. It serves as a crucial link between the districts of Jammu and Poonch, playing a vital role in regional economic development. Once completed, the highway is expected to unlock the potential of previously undiscovered tourist spots, attracting both domestic and international visitors to this scenic region. Bengaluru is gearing up to host two major international events by February next year: the global investors’ summit, “Invest Karnataka 2025,” and the “Aero India” air show. For the first time, both events will occur simultaneously, with Bengaluru set to welcome distinguished guests and industry leaders from India and around the world. The Invest Karnataka summit is scheduled for February 12-14, while Aero India will run from February 10-14, 2025. More from our Correspondent:
The three-day Invest Karnataka 2025 summit was announced well in advance to attract investments to the state. Aero India dates were subsequently aligned to coincide with this period. The Karnataka government sees this overlap as a unique opportunity, despite logistical challenges. High-level sources confirm that the Invest Karnataka summit will proceed as planned, with no postponements. Aero India, jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence, DRDO, HAL, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation, will feature global aircraft manufacturers. This alignment with Invest Karnataka is expected to boost aerospace and aviation investments, key focus areas for the state.
The Karnataka government is also targeting investments in green hydrogen, semiconductors, and aerospace. Officials believe Aero India’s timing will enhance synergy between the two events, promoting growth across sectors.
However, concerns have emerged over the feasibility of hosting two large-scale events simultaneously, especially in terms of managing accommodation and hospitality. Banda Singh Bahadur
Banda Singh Bahadur; born Lachman Dev; (27 October 1670 – 9 June 1716), was a Sikh warrior and a general of the Khalsa Army. At age 15, he left home to become an ascetic, and was given the name Madho Das Bairagi. He established a monastery at Nānded, on the bank of the river Godāvarī. In 1707, Guru Gobind Singh accepted an invitation to meet Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah I in southern India, he visited Banda Singh Bahadur in 1708. Banda became a disciple of Guru Gobind Singh and was given a new name, Gurbaksh Singh (as written in Mahan Kosh), after the baptism ceremony. He is popularly known as Banda Singh Bahadur. He was given five arrows by the Guru as a blessing for the battles ahead. He came to Khanda, Sonipat and assembled a fighting force and led the struggle against the Mughal Empire.His first major action was the sacking of the Mughal provincial capital, Samana, in November 1709. After establishing his authority and the Sikh Republic in Punjab, Banda Singh Bahadur abolished the zamindari (feudal) system, and granted property rights to the tillers of the land. Banda Singh was captured by the Mughals and tortured to death in 1715–1716.

डॉ. नगेन्द्र (जन्म- 9 मार्च, 1915, अलीगढ़, उत्तर प्रदेश; मृत्यु- 27 अक्टूबर, 1999, नई दिल्ली) भारत के प्रसिद्ध हिंदी साहित्यकार थे। आधुनिक हिन्दी की आलोचना को समृद्ध करने में डॉ. नगेन्द्र का महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा था। वे काव्य शास्त्र के प्रकाण्ड विद्वान् माने जाते थे। उनके निबन्धों में वैचारिक औदात्य के साथ-साथ उनका व्यक्तित्व भी अभिव्यक्ति पा गया है। उनके निबन्धों में एक सहृदय तथा भावुक निबन्धकार के गुण भली-भाँति लक्षित होते हैं। इसका कारण यह है कि नगेन्द्र जी का हिन्दी साहित्य के क्षेत्र में प्रवेश एक कवि के रूप में हुआ था। वर्ष 1965 में उन्हें साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।

प्रदीप कुमार जन्म: 4 जनवरी, 1925; मृत्यु: 27 अक्टूबर, 2001) हिन्दी एवं बंगाली फ़िल्मों के प्रसिद्ध अभिनेता थे। हिन्दी सिनेमा में उनको ऐसे अभिनेता के तौर पर याद किया जाता है, जिन्होंने 1950 और 60 के दशक में अपने ऐतिहासिक किरदारों के ज़रिये दर्शकों का भरपूर मनोरंजन किया। उस जमाने में फ़िल्मकारों को अपनी फ़िल्मों के लिए जब भी किसी राजा, महाराजा, राजकुमार अथवा नवाब की भूमिका की ज़रूरत होती थी तो वह प्रदीप कुमार को याद किया जाता था। उनके उत्कृष्ट अभिनय से सजी ‘अनारकली’, ‘ताजमहल’, ‘बहू बेगम’ और ‘चित्रलेखा’ जैसी फ़िल्मों को दर्शक आज भी नहीं भूले हैं।
Pradeep Kumar was an Indian actor who is recognized for his work in Hindi, Bengali and English-language films.When Kumar was 17 years old, he decided to take up acting. He started his film career in Bengali films.His notable roles in Bengali films were in Alaknanda (1947), directed by renowned filmmaker Debaki Bose, and in 42 (1951).Pradeep Kumar Batabayal then shifted to Bombay and Filmistan studios, and had an important role in the film Anand Math (1952). He played the lead role with Bina Rai in Anarkali (1953) and with Vyjayanthimala in Nagin (1954). Both films were very popular and had songs that added to the movies’ success. He worked with Madhubala in eight films.
