The 70 member Delhi assembly will go to polls on 5th of next month. In view of this, Akashvani News brings you a special series. Today, we take a look at Shakurbasti constituency.

Located in the North Delhi, Shakurbasti Assembly constituency is one of the hot seats in the upcoming Delhi assembly polls. Former Delhi Minister, Satyendra Jain who was recently released on bail after spending 18 months in jail over a money laundering case, is the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate from this seat. This time the road to Delhi assembly seems difficult for Mr Jain as both BJP and Congress are not leaving any stone unturned to win the battle. BJP has fielded Karnail Singh while Congress has given ticket to Satish Luthra against the former Delhi Minister.

Mr. Jain who has secured three consecutive victories from the seat, defeated BJPs S C Vats in the last election. The constituency includes areas like Rani Bagh, Saraswati Vihar, Rishi Nagar, Paschim Vihar, and Jwalaheri Market. Poor roads, sewer problems, traffic jams, parking woes, and law and order are the major issues among the residents. The political history of the seat reflects a mixed trend, with the BJP having won twice, Congress twice, and AAP three times since 1993. Saklen Akhtar, Akashvani News, Delhi.”
