Both the Houses of Parliament faced repeated disruptions by the opposition over issues like Special Intensive Revision in Bihar and discussion on Operation Sindoor. In the Lok Sabha, despite Speaker Om Birla’s repeated appeals to cooperate in running the question hour as it is an important business, protests continued, leading to three adjournments in Lok Sabha.
In the Rajya Sabha also, two adjournments were forced as the pandemonium continued.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has accused the Opposition parties including Congress of running away from discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament. Talking to media, Mr Rijiju said, as the discussion on Operation Sindoor was to start in the Lok Sabha, the Opposition came up with their new agenda seeking commitment over discussion on Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar, which is not right.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has criticized Congress leader P Chidambaram for his remark on Operation Sindoor. Talking to media outside the parliament today, Mr. Joshi said, Mr. Chidambaram should realise that such statements embolden Pakistan’s stand.
BJP MP Anurag Singh Thakur has accused the Congress of questioning the valour of the Indian armed forces.
BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy also condemned the remarks of Congress leader P Chidambaram. Talking to Akashvani News, outside the Parliament, Mr. Rudy said that Operation Sindoor reflects India’s victory against Pakistan.

In Jammu & Kashmir, an encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out in the upper reaches of Mulnaar forests in Harwan area in central Kashmir’s Srinagar. The area is on the outskirts of Srinagar city. Army’s Chinar Corps, in a post on X, wrote that under Operation Mahadev, contact has been established in the general area of Lidwas in Harwan area and the operation is underway.

The Supreme Court today stayed the Calcutta High Court’s interim order that had halted the implementation of a revised list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) notified by the West Bengal government. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, and Justices K. Vinod Chandran and N.V. Anjaria passed the interim stay while issuing notice on a Special Leave Petition filed by the West Bengal government.The Court expressed surprise at the High Court’s reasoning that only the legislature has the authority to approve OBC classifications, clarifying that reservation falls within the domain of executive functions.
The Calcutta High Court had, on June 17, stayed notifications issued by the State regarding reservations for 140 sub-categories under the OBC-A and OBC-B groups.

In Punjab, six people, including two children and three women, were killed after an overloaded vehicle carrying 29 pilgrims from Manakwal village fell into the Sirhind Canal in Ludhiana today. Nineteen people have been rescued, while four are still missing. Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said the group was returning from a religious site, and search operation is underway.
In another incident, three of five patients at the local civil hospital in Jalandhar died after a technical fault in the oxygen plant cut their supply. One patient is in serious condition. State Health Minister ordered an inquiry and sought a report within 24 hours after visiting the hospital.

The United States and China are set to begin a new round of trade talks in Swedish capital Stockholm today. The negotiations will be led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng. The world’s two largest economies could agree to extend their current trade truce by another 90 days. The existing truce is scheduled to expire on 12th of next month. During the truce both countries agreed to temporarily reduce tariffs on each other.
Washington reached trade agreements with European Union yesterday and with Japan recently.

Peace negotiations between the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand are currently underway in Malaysia, aimed at brokering a ceasefire in their ongoing and intense border conflict. The talks are being held at the official residence of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya, the country’s administrative capital. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is hosting the meeting in his capacity as chair of the regional bloc ASEAN.

In Germany, at least three people were killed and several injured when a regional passenger train derailed in a wooded area in southwestern Germany yesterday. About 100 passengers were aboard the train when the accident occurred near the town of Riedlingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Local media said, a landslide might have caused the accident, as severe storms had swept through the region.

The met department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in five districts of eastern Rajasthan – Kota, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, Karauli and Bharatpur for today. District Administrations have declared holidays for Schools for today and tomorrow for many districts including Baran, Ajmer, Dungarpur, Kota, Beawar, Bhilwara and Salumber. Dholpur District Administration has declared holidays for all Schools and Anganwari Kendras till wednesday.
An orange alert has been issued for the southeastern ten districts of the state. While a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for many districts. According to the Met center Jaipur, heavy rain will continue in the state for the next three to four days.
