Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated, laid the foundationand dedicated to the nation multiple development projects worth over 58,000 crore rupees in Amaravati, the green field capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said, these projects form a strong foundation for Andhra Pradesh’s aspirations and Viksit Bharat’s hopes.

 

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the restart of construction work for the Andhra Pradesh State Capital Amaravathi. Speaking on this occasion, the Prime Minister said that he does not see just a city but a dream coming true-a new Amaravati, a new Andhra.

 

Emphasising that over the past 10 years, India has focused extensively on physical, digital, and social infrastructure, the Prime Minister highlighted that India is now among the fastest-modernizing infrastructure nations in the world, and Andhra Pradesh is benefiting significantly from this. The Prime Minister also emphasized that DRDO’s Nava Durga missile Testing Range in Nagayalanka for which the foundation stone was laid today will serve as a force multiplier for India’s defense capabilities. The Prime Minister noted that once completed the EKTA mall in Visakhapatnam will boost the local economy and strengthen the “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” vision. The Prime Minister also announced that this year’s International Day of Yoga (21st June) marking the 10th edition will be celebrated at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and urged the people to undertake more activities on Yoga in the next 50 days. Speaking on this occasion Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending support to the Amaravathi project and reiterated his full support for any decision the Prime Minister takes to redress the Pahalgam terror attack.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi dedicated to the nation, the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport, which is the country’s first semi-automated port. Addressing the event, the Prime Minister said, it is a significant step forward in the development of India’s maritime infrastructure. He said, the Vizhinjam Port is a great model of new-age development and will bring great economic stability and benefits to the country and to Kerala.

 

Addressing the event Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, the Vizhinjam port has opened a gateway to the development potential of the third millennium.

The WAVES Declaration was adopted today during the Global Media Dialogue in Mumbai and the member nations agreed to prevent the spread of misinformation and promote media integrity, fact-based journalism and responsible advertising.

 

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for I&B L.Murugan co chaired the event.

 

Information and Broadcasting Minister Vaishnaw stressed on the need to provide a fair chance for everyone to showcase their story to the world.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today held a meeting with a Japanese Parliamentary Delegation led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan Nukaga Fukushiro in New Delhi. During the meeting, Mr. Birla emphasised on a collective and resolute response to effectively combat terrorism and uphold the values that define democratic societies. He called upon all democratic nations to come together to eradicate the menace of terrorism. Mr. Fukushiro strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed Japan’s steadfast support for India’s fight against terrorism.

India and Denmark have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen energy cooperation. The MoU will support India’s ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. It aims to foster knowledge exchange and technological collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the area of clean and sustainable energy solutions. Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal said that the renewed energy cooperation expresses the mutual commitment of India and Denmark to foster sustainable development. The renewed agreement broadens the partnership in areas such as cross-border electricity trading, development of EV charging infrastructure, and integration of variable renewable energy.

BJP today accused Congress of trying to create a confusion over caste census. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra told media in New Delhi that Congress and its allies were in power for over six decades, but never conducted caste census. Mr. Patra added that the exercise is not for polarisation but for policy transformation.

 

Earlier in the day, Congress asked the government to announce a time line for every stage of the caste survey. The Congress Working Committee in its meeting in New Delhi passed a resolution in this regard.

Union Home Secretary today held a meeting in New Delhi to discuss the issue of releasing of extra 4 thousand 5 hundred cusecs of water from Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Dams for eight days to meet urgent water needs of Haryana and some parts of Rajasthan. The meeting was attended by senior government officers and the partner states of BBMB including Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana. During the meeting, it was advised to carry out the decision of board to release extra water from Bhakra Dams. It was also agreed that during the filling period of Dams, the board will provide this excess water to Punjab to fulfill any additional requirements.

India Meteorological Department, IMD has forecast rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds over East and central India till 6th May. Rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm or duststorm is likely to continue over northwest India till 7th May. Scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim till tomorrow and over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh till 5th of May. A massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit the southern coasts of Chile and Argentina today, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami alert. The earthquake struck between Cape Horn and Antarctica at a depth of just 10 kilometres. Chile’s National Disaster Prevention and Response Service said that the coastal area of Magallanes region in the southern tip of the country should be evacuated due to the risk of a tsunami.
