National Press Day is being observed today. It marks the day the Press Council of India (PCI) began its operations in 1966. Established as an independent body, the PCI’s primary role is to ensure that the press maintains high standards of journalism while remaining free from external influences. The idea for the Council was first proposed by the First Press Commission in 1956. This day symbolizes a free and responsible press, central to democracy. It is commemorated through various activities, including the National Awards for Excellence in Journalism and the release of a Souvenir.

 

भारत में स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष प्रेस के महत्व को उजागर करने के लिए हर साल 16 नवंबर को मनाया जाता है। यह दिवस स्वतंत्र प्रेस के महत्व पर प्रकाश डालता है। इसी दिन कई महत्वपूर्ण ऐतिहासिक घटनाएं हुई हैं, जैसे कि 1810 में मैक्सिको की स्वतंत्रता के लिए संघर्ष शुरू होना और 1995 में त्रिनिदाद एवं टौबेगो के प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में वासुदेव पाण्डे का पदभार संभालना। यह दिन कुछ प्रमुख हस्तियों की जयंती और पुण्यतिथि के रूप में भी मनाया जाता है, जिनमें शंभू महाराज, मिहिर सेन और उदा देवी शामिल हैं।

The Delhi Crime Branch has filed two separate FIRs against Al-Falah University, one for cheating and the other under sections of forgery. According to a Delhi Police source, a team from the Crime Branch unit visited the University office in Okhla in the national capital yesterday. The Delhi Police has also issued a notice to the university and requested certain documents from them. It said, the FIRs were registered after University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) flagged serious irregularities at the university during their reviews. The source mentioned that the first FIR has been lodged for violations under Section 12, while the second FIR pertains to alleged false accreditation claims made by the university.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will participate in the 8th edition of the bilateral air exercise – Garuda 25 in France from today. IAF will conduct this exercise with the French Air and Space Force (FASF) till 27th of this month. The Ministry of Defence said that this exercise aims to refine tactics and procedures in a realistic operational environment. The Ministry added that it also provides an opportunity for professional interaction, exchange of operational knowledge, and sharing of best practices between the two Air Forces.

 

During the exercise, the IAF’s Su-30MKI aircraft will operate alongside the French multirole fighters in complex simulated air combat scenarios, focusing on air-to-air combat, air defence, and joint strike operations.

In a major step toward expanding frontier tourism, Sikkim government has announced that the strategically sensitive sites of Doklam and Cho La will be opened to tourists by December 15, this year. The decision marks the first time civilians will be allowed access to these high-security border zones. The sites were originally scheduled for inauguration on 27 September, but the plan was delayed due to administrative and logistical hurdles. Speaking to reporters, C.S. Rao, Sikkim’s Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism, confirmed that preparations are now in their final phase. By opening these previously restricted regions, the Sikkim government aims to promote adventure and heritage tourism. A report:

 

“The Sikkim government is preparing to open Cho La and Doklam under the Battlefield tourism initiative of the Defence ministry . After 8 years of stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops, Doklam will be  opened  for tourists .  This place is located at nearly 14 thousand feet altitude and nearly  70 km away from capital Gangtok city . On the other hand, Cho La is a must-visit for history buffs, adventure enthusiasts, and nature lovers for  its captivating landscapes and rich heritage. Cho La is primarily  being remembered for the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in 1967 . The Sikkim government and the army are developing these places to welcome tourists by next month. However, government will only allow limited number of vehicles and bikes daily with specific do’s and don’ts instructions while visiting both the the places. Greater Noida is set to host the World Boxing Cup Finals scheduled from today to November 20, at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.

 

The World Cup Finals is the season finale of the World Boxing Cup Series 2025, following the three World Cup Stages held earlier in Brazil, Poland, and Kazakhstan. The event will have 130 boxers from 18 countries, featuring the 8 best boxers of the year in each of the 20 categories.

 

India is competing in all 20 categories, as host will field the world champions like Minakshi, Nikhat Zareen, Jaismine, and Saweety Boora. Saweety is making her comeback for the first time this year, as Lovlina Borgohain has decided to withdraw from the tournament, citing an injury.

 

India will also aim to win a few medals in Men’s boxing  from Abhinash Jamwal and Hitesh, who had two medals each at this year’s World Cup circuit.

A manager of HDFC Bank’s Velachery branch was arrested for stealing gold and cash from a locker belonging to an NRI customer. Central Crime Branch personnel arrested S. Venkatesh who was in charge of the bank’s locker vault, on charges of accessing the locker without authorisation and taking jewellery and cash worth more than 21 lakh rupees. The customer, a resident of United States, had given locker access to her mother for routine operations. During a recent inspection, her family discovered that 238 grams of gold was missing. Following a complaint lodged by the woman’s brother, CCB police registered a case and formed a special team to probe the incident.

The office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, had earlier announced the commencement of the conduct of Pre-test for the forthcoming Census of India 2027, in the selected samples across all the States. In Tamil Nadu, the Pre- Test exercise was decided to be conducted in 3 charges – 2 rural charges and 1 urban charge. Accordingly, the Directorate of Census Operations, Tamil Nadu in consultation with the State Government had identified Anchetty Taluk of Krishnagiri District (Rural), RK Pet Taluk of Thiruvallur District (Rural) and Mangadu Municipality of Kancheepuram District (Urban) for the execution of this Pre-test exercise.

दिल्‍ली यातायात पुलिस ने नेताजी सुभाष मार्ग और उससे जुड़े सर्विस रोड को यात्रियों की आवाजाही के लिए से खोल दिया है। पुलिस द्वारा जारी परामर्श में बताया गया है कि बीते सोमवार को लाल किले के पास हुए बम धमाके के कारण नेताजी सुभाष मार्ग पर यातायात प्रतिबंध कर मार्ग परिवर्तित किया गया था। यात्री अब आवाजाही के लिए नेताजी सुभाष मार्ग का उपयोग कर सकते हैं।

 

दिल्‍ली – फायर सेफ्टी सर्टिफिकेट

 

दिल्‍ली की मुख्‍यमंत्री रेखा गुप्‍ता ने कल फायर सेफ्टी सर्टिफिकेट के ऑनलाइन रिन्यूअल के लिए नए डिजिटल पोर्टल का शुभारंभ किया है। यह पोर्टल नागरिकों को घर बैठे, पारदर्शी और सुविधाजनक तरीके से अपना फायर सर्टिफिकेट नवीनीकृत कराने की सुविधा प्रदान करेगा। साथ ही इस पोर्टल पर, आवेदन की प्रत्येक स्थिति को ऑनलाइन देखा जा सकता है। श्रीमती गुप्‍ता ने बताया कि दिल्ली के फायर विभाग में लगातार कई बदलाव किए जा रहे हैं। इज आफ डयूइंग बिजनेस को और बेहतर बनाने की दिशा में फायर विभाग की यह पहल सराहनीय हैं। उन्‍होंने कहा कि पहले फायर सर्टिफिकेट के नवीनीकरण में लोगों को कितनी बाधाओं का सामना करना पड़ता था। अब यह प्रक्रिया पूरी तरह बदल जाएगी, जिसमें नागरिकों को सरल, त्वरित और विश्वासपूर्ण प्रणाली प्राप्त होगी। इस कार्यक्रम में अन्‍य मंत्री और फायर विभाग के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी उपस्थित रहे।

 

दिल्‍ली – अटल कैंटीन योजना

 

मुख्‍यमंत्री रेखा गुप्‍ता ने कल अपने विधानसभा क्षेत्र में बनने वाली अटल कैंटीन के निर्माण स्थल का निरीक्षण किया। इस दौरान उन्‍होंने कहा कि पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के जन्मदिवस के अवसर पर दिल्‍ली सरकार अटल कैंटीन योजना शुरू करने जा रही है।

 

श्रीमती गुप्‍ता ने बताया कि यह योजना राजधानी के सौ स्थानों पर प्रारंभ की जाएगी। इस कैंटीन में नागरिकों को मात्र 5 रुपये में स्वच्छ, गरम और पौष्टिक भोजन उपलब्ध कराया जाएगा।

The Special Cell of the Cyber Command and the Cyber Crime Police Station of Whitefield in Bengaluru have busted a fraudulent software company involved in cheating US citizens by impersonating as Microsoft Technical Support personnel. Based on credible information, the police raided MUSK Communications operating near Varthur Kodi in Whitefield.  The Cyber Command technical team, cyber security analysts and officers from Cyber Crime Police Stations led by DGP, Cyber Command Unit Dr Pronab Mohanty conducted the operation yesterday. They apprehended 21 employees of the company actively involved in cheating foreign nationals by posing as Microsoft support technicians.

राज्य चुनाव आयोग ने घोषणा की है कि आगामी नगर परिषद और नगर पंचायत चुनावों के लिए नामांकन पत्र रविवार को भी ऑनलाइन और ऑफलाइन दोनों तरह से स्वीकार किए जाएँगे। उम्मीदवारों की सुविधा के लिए, आयोग ने सभी रिटर्निंग अधिकारियों को छुट्टी वाले दिन , रविवार, 16 नवंबर को भी उपलब्ध रहने और सुबह 11 बजे से दोपहर 3 बजे के बीच नामांकन स्वीकार करने का निर्देश दिया है। नामांकन पत्र और शपथ पत्र जमा करने की अंतिम तिथि 17 नवंबर 2025 को दोपहर 3 बजे तक है।

The Department of Posts, Telangana Circle, has released two Special Postal Covers commemorating Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas last evening coinciding with the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the revered tribal freedom fighter.

 

The Special Cover depicts major tribal dances like Lambada/Banjara Dance, Gussadi, Aatapatas, Kalapath, Chenchu Dance, and Kolatam. These dances are performed to traditional instruments like Dapda, Nangara, Rabab, Pepri and Dhol, reflecting the rhythmic beauty and diversity of tribal culture. Another cover featured rich musical tradition expressed through three types of indigenous instruments crafted from wood, bamboo, gourds, clay and animal hide.

International Day for Tolerance is being observed today globally. In 1996, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 16th of November as International Day for Tolerance. This action followed the adoption of a Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by UNESCO’s Member States on this date. Among other things, the Declaration affirms that tolerance is neither indulgence nor indifference. It is respect and appreciation of the rich variety of our world’s cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human. Tolerance recognizes the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is also being observed today. It was started by RoadPeace in 1993. • 1776 – British troops captured strategically placed Fort Washington during the American Revolution.
• 1840 – New Zealand officially became a British colony.
• 1908 – जनरल मोटर्स निगम की स्थापना की गई।
• 1958 – भारत और सोवियत संघ ने मास्को में कृषि वस्तुओं के बदले सोवियत औद्योगिक और कृषि उपकरणों के आदान-प्रदान के लिए व्यापार समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये।
• 1915 – The British executed Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, who was a young freedom fighter. The judge pronounced him “the most dangerous of all rebels” and observed that since he is very proud of the crimes committed by him, he does not deserve any mercy and should be sentenced to death. And so, on this day, Kartar Singh Sarabha walked to the gallows with a smile on his lips and twinkle in the eyes and singing patriotic songs he had composed. A Punjabi novelist Nanak Singh wrote a novel titled “Ikk Miyan Do Talwaran” based on his life. India will always cherish the memory of its hero, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha.

करतार सिंह सराभा (अंग्रेज़ी: Kartar Singh Sarabha, जन्म- 24 मई, 1896, लुधियाना; मृत्यु- 16 नवम्बर, 1915)

 

हम याद कर रहे हैं, भारत के प्रसिद्ध क्रान्तिकारियों में से एक करतार सिंह सराभा को, आज उनकी पुण्यतिथि है। उन्हें अपने शौर्य, साहस, त्याग और बलिदान के लिए हमेशा याद किया जाता रहेगा। सराभा ने लाहौर, फ़िरोजपुर, लायलपुर और अमृतसर आदि छावनियों में घूम-घूमकर पंजाबी सैनिकों को संगठित करके उन्हें विद्रोह के लिए प्रेरित किया। उन्होंने केवल उन्नीस वर्ष की आयु में ही हंसते-हंसते देश के लिए अपने जीवन का बलिदान कर दिया। उनके शौर्य और बलिदान की मार्मिक गाथा आज भी भारतीयों को प्रेरणा देती है और देती रहेगी। ये कहना गलत नहीं होगा, यदि आज के युवक सराभा के बताये हुए मार्ग पर चलें, तो न केवल अपना, अपितु देश का मस्तक भी ऊंचा कर सकते हैं।

The sociological imagination is a powerful tool in capturing and understanding social reality. M N  Srinivas made a major contribution to establish sociology in newly independent India.
As a pioneering architect of Indian Sociology and Anthropology, Srinivas was the founder of three prominent Sociology departments in Baroda, Delhi and Bengaluru, teacher and patron of more than a generation of sociologists and anthropologists and the creator of such widely used concepts as “Sankritisation”, and “Vote Banks”. his favorite themes were Mobility and Change.

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है, वीरांगना ऊदा देवी की, जिन्होंने 1857 के ‘भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम’ में प्रमुखता से भाग लिया था। दलित समुदाय से आने वाली ऊदा देवी, लखनऊ के नवाब वाजिद अली शाह की बेगम हज़रत महल की सुरक्षा में तैनात थीं जबकि उनके पति मक्का पासी नवाब की सेना में थे। लेखक राजकुमार इतिहासकार कहते हैं कि 16 नवंबर 1857 को गदर हुआ था। वीरांगना ऊदा देवी ने 36 अंग्रेज़ों को पीपल के पेड़ पर चढ़ कर मारा। हालांकि, इस लड़ाई में काफ़ी देर तक संघर्ष करने के बाद ऊदा देवी भी शहीद हो गईं। कहा जाता है कि उनकी इस स्तब्ध कर देने वाली वीरता से अभिभूत होकर अंग्रेज़ काल्विन कैम्बेल ने हैट उतारकर शहीद ऊदा देवी को श्रद्धांजलि दी थी। वीरता की यह कहानी लोककथाओं और जनस्मृतियों में ज़िंदा रहीं, लेकिन वक्त के साथ इस वीरता को अंजाम देने वाली ऊदा देवी का नाम धुंधला पड़ गया है।

A renowned British actor, Edward Woodward won critical acclaim as a stage and television performer, top-selling recording artist and occasional film actor. Woodward first made himself known as a prominent stage actor, performing for various repertory companies throughout the British Isles.

 

After making his London stage debut in “Where There’s a Will” (1954), the actor began to branch out into film and television, playing several small parts.

श्रीराम लागू (अंग्रेज़ी: Shriram Lagoo, जन्म- 16 नवंबर, 1927; मृत्यु- 17 दिसंबर, 2019)

आज जयंती है, भारतीय सिनेमा और रंगमंच के दिग्गज कलाकार श्रीराम लागू की।  महाराष्ट्र के सतारा ज़िले में जन्में श्रीराम लागू फिल्मों में आने से पहले पेशे से डॉक्टर थे। डॉ. लागू को एक्टिंग का शौक़ मेडिकल की पढ़ाई के दौरान ही लग गया था, ये बात उन्होंने खुद एक इंटरव्यू में बताई थी।

 

डॉ. लागू ने अपने करियर की शुरुआत थिएटर से की थी। 1971 में आयी आहट- एक अजीब कहानी से हिंदी सिनेमा में बतौर एक्टर पारी शुरू की थी। अपने करियर में उन्होंने कई तरह के किरदार निभाये, 100 से ज्यादा हिंदी और 40 से ज्यादा मराठी फिल्मों में काम किया। ‘पिंजरा’, ‘मेरे साथ चल’, ‘सामना’, ‘दौलत’, ‘घरौंदा’, ‘विधाता’, ‘खुद्दार’, ‘लावारिस’, ‘काला बाज़ार’ आदि।

सिनेमा के अलावा मराठी, हिंदी और गुजराती रंगमंच से जुड़े रहे श्रीराम ने 20 से अधिक मराठी नाटकों का निर्देशन भी किया। मराठी थिएटर में तो उन्हें 20वीं सदी के सबसे बेहतरीन कलाकारों में गिना जाता था। ‘नटसम्राट’ नाटक में उन्होंने गणपत बेलवलकर की भूमिका निभाई थी, जिसे मराठी थिएटर के लिए मील का पत्थर माना जाता है। गणपत बेलवलकर का रोल इतना कठिन माना जाता है कि इस रोल को निभाने वाले बहुत-से थियेटर कलाकार गंभीर रूप से बीमार हुए। नटसम्राट के रोल के बाद श्रीराम लागू को भी दिल का दौरा पड़ा था।

शंभू महाराज (अंग्रेज़ी: Shambhu Maharaj, जन्म- 16 नवम्बर, 1907[1], लखनऊ, उत्तर प्रदेश; मृत्यु- 4 नवम्बर, 1970)

 

हम याद कर रहे हैं, भारतीय शास्त्रीय नृत्य शैली कत्थक के प्रसिद्धि प्राप्त गुरु और नर्तक सम्राट शंभू महाराज को, आज उनकी जयंती है। लखनऊ घराने के शंभू महाराज का वास्तविक नाम ‘शंभूनाथ मिश्रा’ था। नृत्य कला उन्हें विरासत में मिली थी। शंभू महाराज नृत्य के संग ठुमरी गाकर उसके भावों को विभिन्न प्रकार से इस अदा से प्रदर्शित करते थे कि दर्शक मुग्ध हुए बिना नहीं रह सकता था।

 

शंभूनाथ जी का मानना था कि नृत्‍य सबसे अधिक भूमिका भावों की होती है। वे कहते थे-“भाव-विहीन लय-ताल प्रधान नृत्य मात्र एक चमत्कारपूर्ण तमाशा हो सकता है, नृत्य नहीं हो सकता।” नृत्य कौशल के प्रदर्शन में शंभू महाराज शोक, आशा, निराशा, क्रोध, प्रेम, घृणा आदि भावों को चमत्कारपूर्ण दिखाते थे। गायन में ठुमरी के साथ दादरा, गज़ल और भजन भी बड़ी तन्मयता से श्रोताओं को सुनाते थे। शंभू महाराज को संगीत नाटक अकादमी फेलोशिप’ (1967) और ‘पद्म श्री’ (1956) से अलंकृत किया गया था।

The best-selling novelist was Bollywood’s go-to storyteller in the 1960s. He wrote family dramas shot through with suspense.

 

बोमिरेड्डी नरसिम्हा रेड्डी (अंग्रेज़ी: Bommireddy Narasimha Reddy, 16 नवम्बर 1908 – मृत्यु: 8 नवम्बर 1977)

 

आज जयंती है, तेलुगु सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध फ़िल्म निर्देशक बोमिरेड्डी नरसिम्हा रेड्डी की। उनका मानना था कि फिल्मों का कोई उद्देश्य होना चाहिए और उसमें संदेश भी होना चाहिए। अगर ऐसा नहीं है तो फिल्म बनाना का कोई औचित्‍य नहीं है। वे अपने काम के प्रति इतने समर्पित थे की एक-एक चीज का ध्यान रखते थे, अगर एक उदाहरण ले तो फिल्म पूजा फलम के लिए उन्होंने उस समय 2000 का नेकलेस खरीदा था क्योंकि निर्माता जो हार लेकर आए थे उन्हें पसंद नहीं आया इसलिए उन्होंने उसे बदलवा दिया जबकि यह काम उनका नहीं था। उन्हें कभी इसकी परवाह नहीं रही की फिल्मों ने कितना पैसा कमाया। उनकी क्लासिक या कहें तेलुगू सिनेमा की क्लासिक फिल्म थी मल्लेश्वरी। तेलुगु भाषा की यह पहली फिल्म थी, जिसे किसी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव में दिखाया गया। अमरीका के कुछ विश्वविद्यालयों ने इस फिल्म की स्क्रिप्ट भी मांगी थी, ताकि उसे पाठ्यक्रम में शामिल किया जा सके। सुनाते हैं आपको इसी फिल्म का गीत।
