Ganesh Chaturthi, or Ganeshotsav, is a revered Hindu festival celebrated with great devotion across India, especially in Mumbai and Pune. The occasion marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, who is known as the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune.
On this day, devotees worship Lord Ganesha, who was born during the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month. The festival is celebrated over a period of 10 days and ends with Anant Chaturdashi, which is also known as Ganesh Visarjan. On Visarjan day, devotees immerse the idol of Lord Ganesha in a water body.
President Droupadi Murmu has greeted citizens on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. In her message, President Murmu said that this festival is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm. Underlining that Lord Ganesh is worshipped as the source of wisdom and well-being, President Murmu said that people seek his blessings for new beginnings and the removal of obstacles.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Swadesi should be life mantra for every Indian. Speaking at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Ahmedabad yesterday, Mr Modi said, investment might come from anywhere in the world, but if production takes place in India, it is ultimately Swadesi. Prime Minister said that a new chapter is being added to India’s Make in India journey, marking an important day in the nation’s goal of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’.
He pointed out that companies like Maruti Suzuki have become brand ambassadors of Make in India.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that demographic changes in border areas directly impact the security of the country and its borders. Mr Shah said this while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day Vibrant Villages Programme workshop in New Delhi. He said that the vibrant villages program was started by the Modi Government to stop migration from border villages and achieve 100 per cent saturation.
The Minister said that the Vibrant Villages Programme is boosting employment by promoting infrastructure, preservation and promotion of culture and tourism in border villages.

उत्तर रेलवे ने जम्मू क्षेत्र में भारी बारिश के कारण कटरा, उधमपुर और जम्मू रेलवे स्टेशनों से 18 रेलगाड़ियों को रद्द कर दिया है। चार ट्रेनों को कुछ समय के लिए रोक दिया गया है। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि माता वैष्णो देवी मंदिर के आधार शिविर कटरा से सात, जम्मू से एक और उधमपुर से दो रेलगाडियों को रद्द किया गया है। कटरा और उधमपुर जाने वाली रेलगाडियां भी रद्द कर दी गई हैं। हालांकि, कटरा-श्रीनगर खंड पर रेलगाडि़यों की आवाजाही जारी है। जम्मू क्षेत्र में सोमवार रात से दशकों में सबसे भारी बारिश हो रही है। इससे पुल क्षतिग्रस्त हो गए हैं, सड़क संपर्क बाधित हुआ है और बड़े भूभाग जलमग्न हो गए हैं। इसलिए लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर जाने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ा है। वहीं जम्मू कश्मीर सेवा चयन बोर्ड ने जूनियर इंजीनियर सिविल पद के लिए 31 अगस्त को होने वाली ओएमआर आधारित परीक्षा स्थगित कर दी है। मौसम की मौजूदा परिस्थितियों को देखते हुए यह निर्णय लिया गया है। परीक्षा की नई तारीख की घोषणा अलग से की जाएगी।

In Punjab, the flood situation in parts of the state bordering Raavi, Beas and Satluj Rivers is turning grim. An alert has been sounded in several districts and leaves of all the officials have been cancelled to maintain round-the-clock presence at the ground level and continue rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas.
People living in low lying areas of these districts have been instructed to reach to safer places or relief camps. Those stranded deep inside the affected areas are being rescued by Army, BSF, NDRF and Punjab Police.
Holidays have been declared in all the schools till August 30th and citizens have been requested to stay away from riverbanks and avoid spreading and believing in rumours.

Amid chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya,” devotees across Maharashtra have started welcoming their beloved Ganpati Bappa into their homes. Public or Sarvajanik idols are being brought into pandals with great enthusiasm, accompanied by the beats of Dhol-Tasha Pathaks, vibrant music, and fireworks. The ceremonial Pran Pratishtha of Lord Ganpati will be performed, followed by elaborate Pooja and Aarti rituals. This ten-day festival is an integral part of Maharashtra’s cultural identity, celebrated each year with a host of cultural activities-ranging from performances and competitions to live visual displays known as Dekhava. This year, the Bombay High Court has mandated that Ganpati idols made of Plaster of Paris, up to six feet in height, must be immersed in artificial water bodies. बीएमसी ने 12 पुलों पर गणेश जुलूस के दौरान सावधानी बरतने की अपील की
बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम ने श्रद्धालुओं से मध्य और पश्चिमी लाइनों पर 12 रेलवे फ्लाईओवरों पर गणेश जुलूस निकालते समय अतिरिक्त सावधानी बरतने का आग्रह किया है। नगर निगम ने पुलों पर भीड़भाड़, रुकने, लाउडस्पीकर बजाने और नाचने से बचने की सलाह दी है। श्रद्धालुओं से गणेश प्रतिमाओं के आगमन और विसर्जन जुलूसों के दौरान सुरक्षित मार्ग सुनिश्चित करने के लिए पुलिस और बीएमसी के दिशानिर्देशों का पालन करने को कहा गया है।

The Additional Special Judge for CBI cases in Chennai convicted several accused, sentencing them to 9 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹1.6 lakh. The case, registered by the CBI in 1996, involved a conspiracy between a private individual and Central Bank of India officials. They fraudulently availed credit and term loans in the name of Sujatha Films Pvt. Ltd., causing a wrongful loss of ₹10.19 crore to the bank.

The South Western Railways General Manager Mukul Saran Mathur conducted a window trailing inspection between Krantiveer Sangolli Rayanna station in Bengaluru and Tumkuru. He reviewed various infrastructural works and took stock of passenger amenities under development across important stations in this section. At Nidavanda station, the goods shed upgrade works were inspected by the General Manager. This is being developed as a key freight loading hub of Bengaluru division, particularly for automobile traffic.

Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, has assured that legal services will address the issues faced by soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their families. While virtually inaugurating eight new legal aid clinics, he emphasized that their civil and legal problems would be resolved without them having to visit courts. Justice P Sam Koshy, Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, said the initiative was led by the National Legal Services Authority, with 10 clinics now operational across the state and plans to expand to all districts.

Lake pollution is frequently caused by inflows from fertilizers, contaminants and solid waste being dumped directly, or flushed into lakes via rivers, and this is worsened by global warming – leading, for instance, to more frequent and intense floods.
Stop Pollution Sources
Sewage treatment: Ensure proper treatment of wastewater before it enters the lake.
Industrial discharge: Enforce regulations to prevent toxic waste dumping.
Plastic and solid waste: Install trash traps and organize clean-ups.
Agricultural runoff: Promote eco-friendly farming (e.g., buffer strips, organic fertilizers).

पुण्यतिथि, जयंती या जन्म –
रवीन्द्र केलकर (पुण्यतिथि) :: आज कोंकणी साहित्य के सबसे मजबूत स्तंभ रवीन्द्र केलकर की पुण्यतिथि है। उनकी प्रमुख रचनाओं में ‘आमची भास कोंकणीच’, ‘बहुभाषिक भारतान्त भाषान्चे समाजशास्त्र’ शामिल हैं। रवीन्द्र केलकर को 1977 में उनकी पुस्तक ‘हिमालयवंत के लिए ‘साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया।
ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी (पुण्यतिथि)
आज फ़िल्मकार ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी की पुण्यतिथि है। ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी ने 1951 में फ़िल्म “दो बीघा ज़मीन” फ़िल्म में बिमल राय के सहायक के रूप में अपना कॅरियर शुरू किया था। उनके साथ छह साल तक काम करने के बाद उन्होंने 1957 में “मुसाफिर” फ़िल्म से अपने निर्देशन के कॅरियर की शुरुआत की। ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी की फ़िल्म निर्माण की प्रतिभा का लोहा समीक्षकों ने उनकी दूसरी फ़िल्म अनाड़ी से ही मान लिया था। उन्होंने “अनुराधा”, “अनुपमा”, “आशीर्वाद” और “सत्यकाम” जैसी ऑफ बीट फ़िल्मों का भी निर्देशन किया। ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी की अंतिम फ़िल्म 1998 की “झूठ बोले कौआ काटे” थी। उन्होंने टेलीविजन के लिए तलाश, हम हिंदुस्तानी, धूप छांव, रिश्ते और उजाले की ओर जैसे धारावाहिक भी बनाए।
अभिनय ही नहीं, गानों के फ़िल्मांकन के मामले में भी ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी बेजोड़ थे। अनाड़ी फ़िल्म

मुकेश चन्द्र माथुर (पुण्यतिथि) :: आज भारत में संगीत इतिहास के सर्वश्रेष्ठ गायकों में से एक मुकेश चन्द्र माथुर की पुण्यतिथि है। सुरों के बादशाह मुकेश ने अपना सफ़र 1941 में शुरू किया। ‘निर्दोष’ फ़िल्म में मुकेश ने अदाकारी करने के साथ-साथ गाने भी खुद गाए। इसके अतिरिक्त उन्होंने ‘माशूका’, ‘आह’, ‘अनुराग’ और ‘दुल्हन’ में भी बतौर अभिनेता काम किया। उन्होंने सब से पहला गाना “दिल ही बुझा हुआ हो तो” गाया था। के. एल. सहगल से मुतअस्सिर मुकेश ने अपने शरूआती दिनों में उन्हीं के अंदाज़ में गाने गाए। मुकेश का सफर तो 1941 से ही शुरू हो गया था, मगर एक गायक के रूप में उन्होंने अपना पहला गाना 1945 में फ़िल्म ‘पहली नजर’ में गाया। उस वक्त के सुपर स्टार माने जाने वाले ‘मोती लाल’ पर फ़िल्माया जाने वाला गाना ‘दिल जल्ता है तो जलने दे’ हिट हुआ था।
Song- ‘जीना यहां मरना यहां’, ”जाने कहां गए वो दिन’, ‘आवारा हूं”मेरा जूता है जापानी’, ‘ये मेरा दीवानापन है’, ‘किसी की मुस्कुराहटों पे हो निसार’, ‘कभी कभी मेरे दिल में खयाल आता है’।
उनकी प्रमुख फ़िल्में हैं- ‘यहूदी’, ‘बन्दिनी’, ‘संगम’, ‘अंदाज़’, ‘मेरा नाम जोकर’, ‘आनन्द’, ‘कभी कभी’, ‘सत्यम शिवम सुन्दरम’ आदि।
