President Droupadi Murmu will present the Padma Awards at the second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian awards of the country, are conferred in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The awards are given in various disciplines and fields of activities including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.
“This year the Government had announced 139 Padma Awards which comprises seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards. During the first Investiture ceremony, the President conferred Padma Awards to 71 eminent personalities for the year 2025. In the second Investiture ceremony, a total of 68 eminent personalities will be honoured with Padma Awards. Among them, Former Chief Justice of India Jagdish singh khehar and Kumudni Rajnikant Lakhia will be awarded Padma Vibhushan for contribution in the field of Public affairs and Arts, respectively. Those who will be presented padma bhushan includes Jatin goswami, Kailash nath dixit, Sadhvi Ritambhara while renowned economist Bibek Debroy will be honoured Posthumously. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has pointed out that terrorist organizations are openly operating from the cities and towns of Pakistan. He said, terrorism is an open business in Pakistan that is supported, financed, and used by the Pakistani military and state. In an interview to a German Newspaper, Dr. Jaishankar said, India has sent a clear signal to the terrorists that price has to be paid by them for carrying out terrorist attacks.
On India’s retaliatory attacks after the Pahalgam terror attack, External Affairs Minister said, Indian strike was measured, and non-escalating. He said, India showed that India can disable their air defense systems.
On the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Dr. S Jaishankar highlighted that the cessation of firing was agreed between the military commanders of both sides through direct contact. He said, India effectively hit and incapacitated Pakistan’s main airbases and air defense system.

CHENNAI
The Railway Protection Force personnel seized approximately 2 Thousand kilograms of smuggled rice at Chennai Egmore Railway Station. In a targeted operation against the illegal transportation of PDS rice, a special drive was conducted on 25th May by a team of police personnel.
During the operation, the team identified and confiscated 4-unclaimed bags filled with smuggled PDS rice weighing around two metric tonnes. The rice bags are suspected to have been illegally diverted from the Government subsidised distribution network, were found abandoned on the railway premises. Authorities suspect that the smugglers intended to transport the rice using the railway network before the consignment fearing police surveillance.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras has launched new programs to prepare students for the latest advances in technology and become leaders in Industry and academia. These courses have been launched at both the Undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It may also be recalled that IIT Madras became the first institute in the Country to announce separate admission categories for those excelling in sports and fine arts.
The Institute introduced Fine arts and culture excellence admission to undergraduate programs from the Academic year 2025-26. The objective is to reward and encourage students who have achieved excellence in fine arts and culture.
The admission process through FACE would not be through the joint seat allocation authority portal but on a separate portal. The Sports excellence admission was introduced from the last academic year. This initiative is to recognise and reward talented students who have excelled in sports. This program encourages deserving students to pursue higher education while continuing to excel in their sports.

Karnataka Chief Minister-Siddaramaiah reviewed the Covid situation in the state yesterday. In a meeting with the Health department and those with expertise about the pandemic, the Chief Minister sought details on the prevailing situation. Saying that there is no need to be alarmed, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to keep the apparatus ready to meet any eventuality.
He has directed the officials to keep stock of ventilators, oxygen cylinders, medicines and necessary infrastructure to deal with the situation. He said those with heart problems, aged persons, pregnant women should pay heed to advisory issued by the Government on the pandemic. Those with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection symptoms such as cough, cold, fever and body pain must avoid coming out in public.

The Southwest monsoon entered Telangana yesterday, marking a significantly early onset compared to previous years. IMD officials informed the monsoon has touched parts of seven districts, including areas in Mahbubnagar. They informed further that it may take a day or two to cover the entire state if conditions remain favourable. This year the onset of monsoon is ahead of schedule, which will normally be around 10th of next month. The met officials attributed the early arrival to favourable meteorological conditions such as rainfall patterns, wind flow, solar radiation, and moisture transport from surrounding regions.

राजधानी में कोविड-19 के मामलों पर दिल्ली के स्वास्थ्य मंत्री पंकज कुमार सिंह ने कहा है कि नागरिकों को घबराने की जरूरत नहीं है। नए वैरिएंट से होने वाले कोविड में अभी तक केवल वायरल बुखार के लक्षण ही दिखे हैं, लेकिन कोविड को लेकर चिंता की कोई बात नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा है कि इस बारे में सरकार द्वारा एहतियात के तौर पर परामर्श भी जारी किया जा रहा है। स्वास्थ्य मंत्री में कहा कि राजधानी में कोविड-19 की यदि कोई स्थिति बनती भी है, तो सरकार पूरी तरह से तैयार है।
