The Election Commission will today organise a conference with Municipal Commissioners and selected District Election Officers from 11 states which had the lowest voter turnout in the last General Elections. The Conference will be held in New Delhi and will be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. The meeting will discuss ways to step up voter turnout in the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections. It will prepare targeted and specific action plans to address the issue of low voter turnout in certain urban and rural areas. Municipal Commissioners of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Thane, Nagpur, Patna Sahib, Lucknow and Kanpur and select District Election Officers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will attend the meeting. The Chief Election Commissioner has on many occasions highlighted the challenge of urban apathy and migration from rural areas as reasons for low participation.
आगामी लोकसभा चुनावों के लिए आकाशवाणी और दूरदर्शन पर मान्यता प्राप्त राष्ट्रीय पार्टियों के लिए प्रसारण समय का आवंटन कल नई दिल्ली के रंगभवन में किया गया। प्रत्येक राष्ट्रीय पार्टी को आकाशवाणी और दूरदर्शन पर 45- 45 मिनट दिए जायेंगे। छह राष्ट्रीय पार्टियों को अतिरिक्त साढे पांच घंटों के प्रसारण का समय भी दिया गया है। यह प्रसारण इस महीने की 16 और 23 तारीख को तथा अगले महीने की 3, 10, 17, 22 और 29 तारीख को किया जायेगा।

लोकसभा चुनाव के दूसरे चरण के लिए नामांकन भरने का काम सम्पन्न हो गया। प्रमुख प्रत्याशियों में जनता दल सेक्युलर के एच० डी० कुमारस्वामी, कांग्रेस नेता के. सी. वेणुगोपाल और भारतीय जनता पार्टी की हेमामालिनी ने कल नामांकन भरा।
लोकसभा चुनाव के दूसरे चरण में 12 राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों की 88 लोकसभा सीटों पर चुनाव होंगे। केरल की बीस, कर्नाटक की 14, राजस्थान की 13, उत्तर प्रदेश और महाराष्ट्र की आठ-आठ, मध्य प्रदेश की सात, असम और बिहार की पांच-पांच, पश्चिम बंगाल और छत्तीसगढ़ की तीन-तीन सीटों पर इस चरण में वोट डाले जाएंगे। इसके अलावा त्रिपुरा और जम्मू-कश्मीर की एक-एक सीट मैं भी इस चरण में मतदान कराया। बाहरी मणिपुर निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के एक हिस्से पर भी इस चरण में मतदान कराया जाएगा। दूसरे चरण का मतदान इस महीने की 26 तारीख को होगा। जम्मू-कश्मीर को छोड़कर सभी राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में नामांकन की जांच आज होगी। जम्मू-कश्मीर में शनिवार को पर्चों की जांच होगी।
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will announce its first bi-monthly monetary policy of Financial Year 2024-25 today. The Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das-headed, Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) began its three-day deliberation on Wednesday. The decision taken at the MPC meeting will be announced today. A total of six MPC meetings are scheduled for the fiscal year 2024-25 that began on 1st of this month.
Economists expect that the central bank would once again keep the key interest rate unchanged and focus more on inflation control.
The last time, the RBI hiked the repo rate to 6.5 per cent in February 2023 and since then it has held the rate at the same level in its last six bi-monthly policies.
भारतीय जनता पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता और प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने पश्चिम बंगाल में संदेशखाली की घटनाओं में आरोपी को बचाने के लिए तृणमूल कांग्रेस सरकार की आलोचना की है। कूचबिहार में चुनावी जनसभा में श्री मोदी ने कहा कि केवल भाजपा ही महिलाओं पर अत्याचार रोक सकती है।
प्रधानमंत्री ने पश्चिम बंगाल में केन्द्रीय योजनाओं को लागू न करने के लिए भी तृणमूल कांग्रेस की आलोचना की। उन्होंने कहा कि केन्द्र सरकार की ओर से दी गई राशि के बावजूद कई परियोजनाएं समय पर पूरी नहीं हुई हैं।
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Pollution Control Vessel Samudra Paheredar has conducted a joint exercise on Marine Oil Pollution Response with the Vietnam Coast Guard at Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. ICG said during the training, a demonstration of the ship’s pollution response equipment was carried out, showing the resolve of the Indian Coast Guard for a shared response of marine pollution in the ASEAN region.
During the three-day visit, the ship’s crew engaged in professional interactions focusing on marine pollution response, maritime search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement. The activities also included cross-deck training, subject matter expert exchanges, sports events and passage exercise with the Vietnam Coast Guard.
On 2nd April, ICG ship Samudra Paheredar, with an integral helicopter, made a port call at Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam as a part of its ongoing overseas deployment to ASEAN countries.

Israel’s security cabinet has approved the reopening of Erez crossing to allow the flow of more humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Erez Crossing, also known as Beit Hanoun, is a border crossing between Israel and the northern Gaza Strip. It is being reopened for the first time since the terror attack by Palestinian group Hamas on 7th of October last year.
The Israeli official said the crossing is being opened to allow more humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. The cabinet also approved using the Israeli Port of Ashdod to help transfer more aid to Gaza.
Israel tightly controlled land crossings and has banned all travel through air and sea to and from Gaza. Before the start of the conflict, there were two functional crossings within the enclave: Erez for the movement of people and Kerem Shalom for goods.

In Telangana, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department got over 900 crore rupees as property tax from the 140 urban local bodies (ULBs) as against the target of 1,300 crore rupees achieving over 70% in 2023-24. According to officials, the government had fixed a target of 1,300 crore rupees from the ULBs, excluding the GHMC. The department could collect over 922 crore rupees which is 70.92%t of the target. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) collected 1,917 crore rupees in property tax, marking an increase of 257 crore rupees compared to the previous year’s collection of around 1,660 crore rupees. While the Sircilla Municipality tops the list in tax collection with over 99% during the year, Zaheerabad Municipality is at the bottom with just 34.77% collection as on March 31, 2024.

In Karnataka 358 candidates have filed 492 nominations for the second phase of polls in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies. Out of total 358 candidates, the majority of 333 candidates are male and just 25 are female candidates. On the last day of filing the nominations , 224 nominations were received from 183 candidates. Among the candidates, BJP has fielded its candidates from 11 seats and its coalition partner JD(S) from three seats in Mandya, Hassan and Kolar. Congress is contesting from all the 14 seats going to the polls in this phase. The other parties which have filed their nominations are BSP and CPIM. None of the INDIA alliance parties have fielded their candidates in this phase against the Congress.

Schwing Stetter India recently installed a 1MW solar power system in their global manufacturing hub in Cheyyar. The facility was inaugurated by company CMD. Through this mode of energy production, the company aims to make the facility carbon neutral in the near future as the facility can generate 14 lakh KWh of electricity and fulfills 20 percent of its total annual power needs. राजधानी दिल्ली में 25 मई को होने वाले लोकसभा चुनाव के मद्देनजर राजनीतिक पार्टियों में चुनाव प्रचार शुरू कर दिया है। सभी दलों के उम्मीदवार राजधानी के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में लोगों और कार्यकर्ताओं से मिल रहे है और अपने-अपने पक्ष में वोट डालने की अपील कर रहे है। दक्षिणी दिल्ली लोकसभा सीट से भाजपा उम्मीदवार रामवीर सिंह बिधूडी ने महरौली क्षेत्र के साधनगर में कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ परिचय बैठक की। वहीं, चांदनी चौक सीट से प्रवीण खंडेलवाल और उत्तर-पूर्वी दिल्ली से भाजपा उम्मीदवार मनोज तिवारी ने चुनाव प्रचार किया। पश्चिमी दिल्ली लोकसभा सीट से आम आदमी पार्टी के उम्मीदवार ने नजफगढ़ में प्रचार किया।

दिल्ली जल बोर्ड के चन्द्रावल वॉटर वर्कस की नौ सौ मिलीमीटर व्यास वाले पाइपलाइन के मरम्मत कार्य के कारण राजधानी के कुछ क्षेत्रों में आज पानी की आपूर्ति प्रभावित रहेगी। इन क्षेत्रों में सिविल लाइंस, कमला नगर, शक्ति नगर, करोल बाग, पहाडगंज, नई दिल्ली पालिका परिषद के क्षेत्र, ओल्ड और न्यू राजिंद्र नगर, पटेल नगर और दक्षिणी दिल्ली के कुछ क्षेत्र शामिल हैं। इन क्षेत्र के निवासी जरूरत पडने पर नजदीकी जल बोर्ड केंद्रों से संपर्क कर पानी के टैंकर मंगा सकते हैं।

महाराष्ट्र में बुलढ़ाना, अकोला, अमरावती, वरधा, यवतमाल-वाशिम, हिंगोली, नांदेड़ तथा परभनी लोकसभा सीटों के लिए नामांकन दाखिल करने का कल अंतिम दिन था। इन सीटों के लिए दूसरे चरण में 26 अप्रैल को मतदान होगा। कल कई प्रमुख उम्मीदवारों ने पर्चे भरे। भाजपा के मौजूदा सांसद प्रताप राव पाटिल-चिखलीकर ने नांदेड़, शिवसेना उद्धव बालासाहेब ठाकरे गुट के प्रोफेसर नरेन्द्र खेड़कर ने बुलढ़ाना, शिवसेना शिंदे गुट के बाबूराव कदम कोहलीकार ने हिंगोली सीट के लिए नामांकन भरे।
वंचित बहुजन अघाड़ी के पंजाब दख ने परभनी लोकसभा सीट के लिए पर्चा भरा। इससे पहले पार्टी ने बालासाहेग उगले को इस सीट से उम्मीदवार बनाया था।

बृहन्मुंबई महानगरपालिका- बीएमसी द्वारा चलाए गए सघन स्वच्छता अभियान के कारण मुंबई में वायु गुणवत्ता सूचकांक में काफी सुधार हुआ है। वायु गुणवत्ता सूचकांक लगातार 100 से नीचे दर्ज किया जा रहा है। कुछ इलाकों में यह सूचकांक 70 के करीब दर्ज किया गया है।

चुनाव आयोग ने कल भारतीय पुलिस सेवा अधिकारी राहुल डे को दक्षिण पश्चिम डिवीजन (बेहाला) के पुलिस उपायुक्त के रूप में नियुक्त करने की सिफारिश की। इससे पहले राहुल डे कोलकाता पुलिस के एसटीएफ के डीसीपी थे। आयोग ने इससे पहले आईपीएस अधिकारी सौम्या रॉय को पद से हटाकर उन्हें ऐसे पद पर स्थानांतरित करने की सिफारिश की थी, जो चुनाव ड्यूटी से संबंधित न हो। श्री रॉय की पत्नी तृणमूल कांग्रेस की विधायक हैं।

नौवहन का पुराना इतिहास
भारत में समुद्री नौवहन का इतिहास बहुत पुराना है.प्राचीन काल से ही दक्षिण भारत के पूर्वी एशिया और पश्चिम में अरब संसार के साथ नौवहन संबंध थे. लेकिन इससे पहले भी हड़प्पा संस्कृति के मैसोपोटामिया, मिस्र और रोमन से नौपरिवहन द्वारा व्यापारिक आदान प्रदान के प्रमाण मिले हैं.
वर्ल्ड मैरिटाइम डे जहां सितंबर माह के अंतिम बृहस्पतिवार को मनाया जाता है, वहीं भारत में राष्ट्रीय समुद्री दिवस हर साल 5 अप्रैल को मनाया जाता है।

Kanika Banerjee (12 October 1924 – 5 April 2000) was an Bengali Rabindra Sangeet singer. Born on 12 October 1924 at Sonamukhi in Bankura district, Kanika joined Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan in
Since 1943, Kanika had been a regular artiste of the Calcutta station of All India Radio and gave performances at the national level in the musical programmes arranged by other stations as honoured artiste. Her gramophone records came out even in the lifetime of the Poet (Tagore) and there are over 300 gramophone discs to her credit. She was also a singer of Bhajans, Nazrulgeeti (songs by Kazi Nazrul Islam) and Atulprasad’s songs. However the first song recorded by her was neither a Tagore song nor a Nazrul Geeti but a Bengali Adhunik song composed by Niharbindu Sen

आज गुजराती भाषा के जाने-माने साहित्यकार पन्नालाल पटेल की पुण्यतिथि है। उन्हें ‘रणजितराम पुरस्कार’ तथा ‘ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। वे गुजराती के अग्रणी कथाकार रहे उन्होंने उपन्यास, कहानियाँ, नाटक, जीवनी, बच्चों के साहित्य और विविध प्रकार के अन्य लेख लिखे। उनके सहित्य का भारत की लगभग सभी भाषाओं में अनुवाद हो चुका है।
पन्नालाल पटेल ने ग्रामीण जीवन के आत्मीय एवं प्रामाणिक चित्रण के साथ ही लोकभाषा का प्रयोग किया। पन्नालाल पटेल की सर्वोत्कृष्ट इक्कीस कहानियों की चयनिका ‘गूँगे सुर बाँसुरी के’ कथा साहित्य के पाठकों के लिए उपलब्ध है। इन कहानियों में उन्होंने प्रायः दलित, पीड़ित, उत्पीड़ित मनुष्य को अपना विषय बनाया है।
‘जीवी’ पन्नालाल पटेल के प्रसिद्ध उपन्यासों में से एक है।
पन्नालाल पटेल की मृत्यु 5 अप्रैल सन 1989 को अहमदाबाद, गुजरात में हुई।

Pandita Ramabai Sarasvati (23 April 1858 – 5 April 1922) was an Indian social reformer. She was the first woman to be awarded the titles of Pandita as a Sanskrit scholar and Sarasvati after being examined by the faculty of the University of Calcutta. She was one of the ten women delegates of the Congress session of 1889. During her stay in England in early 1880s she converted to Christianity. After that she toured extensively in the United States to collect funds for destitute Indian women. With the funds raised she started Sharada Sadan for child widows. In the late 1890s, she founded Mukti Mission, a Christian charity at Kedgaon village, forty miles east of the city of Pune. The mission was later named Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission.

ईसाई मिशनरी, शिक्षक और समाज सुधारक चार्ल्स फ़्रीयर एंड्रयूज की भी आज पुण्यतिथि है। वह एक ईसाई मिशनरी, शिक्षक और समाज सुधारक थे। महात्मा गाँधी के करीबी मित्रों में से सी. एफ़. एंड्रयूज भी एक थे। शायद वे एकमात्र ऐसे व्यक्ति थे, जो गांधीजी को ‘मोहन’ कहकर संबोधित करते थे।सी. एफ़. एंड्रयूज का जन्म 12 फ़रवरी, 1871 को इंग्लैंड, न्यूकैसल में हुआ था। मार्च 1904 में एंड्रयूज सेंट स्टीफन कॉलेज में शिक्षण का कार्यभार ग्रहण करने के लिए भारत आ गये।
उन्होंने ब्रिटिश नागरिक होते हुए भी जलियांवाला बाग़ हत्याकांड के लिए ब्रिटिश सरकार को दोषी ठहराया और जरनल ओ डायर के कुकृत्य को “जानबूझ कर किया गया जघन्य हत्याकांड” बताया।
सी. एफ़. एंड्रयूज महात्मा गाँधी, बी. आर. अम्बेडकर, दादाभाई नौरोजी, गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले, लाला लाजपत राय, टी. वी. सप्रू तथा रबींद्रनाथ टैगोर आदि के निकट मित्र बने गए थे। समय के साथ-साथ वह पूर्ण रूप से भारतीय संस्कृति में रंग गये थे। अपना परिचय वह एक विदेशी के रूप में नहीं, एक भारतीय के रूप में देते थे। उन्होंने अपने पूरे अंतर्मन से स्वाधीनता संग्राम में भारत का साथ दिया और ब्रिटिश सरकार में अन्यायपूर्ण जातीय राजनीति की कड़े शब्दों में निंदा की।
भारतीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में सी. एफ़. एंड्रयूज के योगदान को देखते हुए सेंट स्टीफन कॉलेज के उनके छात्रों और गाँधीजी ने उन्हें ‘दीनबन्धु’ (ग़रीबों का मित्र) की उपाधि दी।
सी. एफ़. एंड्रयूज की कलकत्ता की यात्रा के दौरान 5 अप्रैल, 1940 को मृत्यु हो गई।

Leela Majumdar (26 February 1908– 5 April 2007) was an Indian Bengali-language writer.Early life Born to Surama Devi and Pramada Ranjan Ray (who was the younger brother of Upendra Kishor Ray Choudhuri), Leela spent her childhood days at Shillong, where she studied at the Loreto Convent. He was the first among Indians to visit Kailash and Mansarovar and wrote a travelogue Himaranya. In 1919, her father was transferred to Calcutta, and she joined St. John’s Diocesan School from where she completed her matriculation examination.She ranked second among the girls in the matriculation examinations in 1924. She stood first in English (literature) both in her honours (graduation) and Master of Arts examination at the University of Calcutta. The family she belonged to made a notable contribution towards children’s literature.Sunil Gangopadhyay says that while the Tagore family enthused everybody with drama, songs and literature for adults, the Ray Chaudhuri family took charge of laying the foundations of children’s literature in Bengali.

Divya Bharti (25 February 1974 – 5 April 1993) was an Indian actress who worked predominantly in Telugu and Hindi films. One of India’s highest-paid actresses of her time, she was noted for her acting versatility and beauty, and is the recipient of a Filmfare Award and a Nandi Award. Bharti started her film career as a teenager, while she was doing pin-up modeling assignments.
5 अप्रैल 1993 में हुई उनकी रहस्मयी मृत्यु से उनका करियर भी समाप्त हो गया।
फ़िल्मी सफर में उन्हें सफलता हिंदी फिल्म विश्वात्मा से मिली। इसी फिल्म के “सात समुन्दर पार गाने” से उन्हें एक अलग पहचान मिली।
