Besides general discussions on the Union Budget for 2026-27 is also listed in today’s business of Lok Sabha. The proceedings in the Lok Sabha were marred on the third consecutive day. Yesterday, opposition parties including the Congress, DMK, TMC and others raised slogans against the government over the US-India trade deal and border issues with China. The Lok Sabha witnessed three adjournments before being finally adjourned for the day. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has criticised the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for disrupting the proceedings of the house by not following Parliamentary norms. He said Mr Gandhi wants to speak beyond rules on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.

The Election Commission of India has rejected the exemption request of the West Bengal government in connection with 25 IAS and IPS officers. They have been called for a briefing in New Delhi today and tomorrow for engagement as observers in the upcoming Assembly election in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

 

 

It may be recalled that the state government earlier did not pay heed to the several request by the Election Commission for sending the list of the senior IAS and IPS officers for the purpose of engagement as observers. Now, the the Commission has taken the decision and prepared the list comprising senior IAS and IPS officers including West Bengal Home Secretary Jagadish Prasad Meena.

Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will launch Bharat Taxi, India’s first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform in New Delhi today. Our correspondent reports that the platform is a transformative initiative in the mobility sector, placing drivers, referred to as Sarathis, at the centre of ownership and governance, and freeing them from exploitative aggregator-based models.

 

The launch of Bharat Taxi is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sahkar se Samriddhi and marks a significant step towards strengthening the cooperative sector while promoting citizen-centric mobility solutions. The platform will operate on a zero-commission, surge-free pricing model, with profits directly shared with drivers. It also prioritises the social security of Sarathis through health and accident insurance, retirement savings, and a dedicated driver support system. As part of its focus on women’s safety and empowerment, Bharat Taxi has introduced initiatives like Sarathi Didi and Bike Didi, under which more than 150 women drivers have joined the platform so far. During the launch event the top six performing Sarathis since the soft launch of Bharat Taxi will also be honoured for their outstanding contributions. Saumya Sharan, Akashvani News, Delhi.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin a crucial three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from today to conduct a comprehensive security review, assess developmental projects and engage with political stakeholders. He will reach Jammu at 5 this evening and will meet political leaders at Lok Bhawan. The visit is expected to include high-level meetings with security agencies and administrative officials to evaluate the overall law and order situation and the progress of ongoing governance and infrastructure initiatives.

 

 

The Home Minister will review the security situation, meet political leaders and launch various development projects. He will visit the International Border at Hiranagar in Kathua district in the tomorrow morning and inspect new gadgetry installed by the Border Security Force for plugging infiltration from across the border. In the afternoon, he will hold a high-level review of the security situation at the Lok Bhawan Jammu.

 

 

On February 7 morning, the Home Minister will leave Jammu for Srinagar where he will launch various development projects for Jammu and Kashmir.

In Manipur, Legislative Assembly Secretariat has notified that the 7th session of the ongoing 12th the State Legislative Assembly will be held at 4 this evening. Chief Minister Yumnam Singh chaired the first cabinet meeting of his government late last evening at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat shortly after being sworn in.

 

 

President’s rule in Manipur was revoked and BJP MLA- Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister of Manipur yesterday. Two other MLAs- Nemcha Kipgen of BJP and Losii Dikho of NPF were administered as Deputy Chief Ministers while BJP MLA- Govindas Konthoujam and NPP MLA- Khuraijam Loken were administered as ministers during the swearing-in ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Imphal.

This morning, the President will offer prayers at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district and later she will visit her village Pahadpur, where she is scheduled to interact with students of the SLS Memorial School, established in memory of her late husband and sons. In the evening, President Murmu will proceed to the Similipal Tiger Reserve and stay overnight at the national park to experience its rich biodiversity. The President will also interact with tribal women and youth groups living inside the tiger reserve. The President will return to Bhubaneswar tomorrow to attend the Black Swan Summit India organised by the Odisha government. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has underlined the challenges of excessive concentration of critical minerals and the importance of de-risking supply chains through structured international cooperation. Addressing the inaugural Critical Minerals Ministerial convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC last night, Dr Jaishankar also conveyed India’s support to the FORGE initiative on critical minerals. He said this in a post on X.

 

In his address, he also highlighted India’s efforts towards greater resilience through initiatives including the National Critical Minerals Mission, Rare Earth Corridors and responsible commerce.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has praised India for taking a leadership role in addressing the challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, to be held in New Delhi from February 16 to 20.He said he was delighted  to participate and called AI an absolutely crucial issue in international relations and one of the biggest challenges of all times.He lauded India for convening the summit and bringing together governments, civil society, and the private sector.

 

 

Over 35,000 participants from more than 100 countries have registered, including more than 500 start-ups, reflecting growing global momentum for responsible and inclusive AI.

The unique confluence of literature and culture, ‘Goa Book Festival 2026’, has commenced in state capital, Panaji. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the five-day festival at the D.B. Bandodkar Ground.

 

More than 200 publishers have arrived at the festival with books in English, Konkani, Marathi, and Hindi. Key attractions include an art exhibition by Mario de Miranda and a special gallery marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. Workshops for children and musical programs are also being organized. The fair will remain open until February 8, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Dr. Kiran Thakur, Chief Patron of the Goa Book Festival stated that the festival will provide a distinct and lasting literary identity to the state. He expressed confidence that this event will emerge as a hub for intellectual dialogue and an “ocean of stories,” not just for India but for the entire world. In Madhya Pradesh, the state government is all set to bring eight cheetahs from Botswana on end of this month.
