After the Supreme Court took strong note of references to corruption in the judiciary in a Class 8 Social Science textbook, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) said it has put the book’s distribution on strict hold and apologised for what it termed an error of judgement. In a press statement issued last evening, NCERT said that after bringing out the Social Science textbook Exploring Society: India and Beyond, Vol II for Class 8 yesterday, it has been observed that certain inappropriate textual material and errors of judgement have inadvertently crept into Chapter No 4, entitled ‘The Role of Judiciary in our Society’. The development comes after the Supreme Court rapped the council and took suo motu cognisance of the content, with the Chief Justice expressing concern over the manner in which the judiciary was portrayed in the chapter.

As part of preparation for the conduct of General Elections to TNLA this year, the training to various stakeholders is being conducted across Tamilnadu. The training for the Master Trainers at State level was conducted on 24th and 25th in Chennai. In this two days training program, 84 State level master trainers participated and were trained on the subjects relating to conduct of elections. Model code of conduct, EVM -VVPAT operations and media related issues. The training sessions were handled from neighbouring Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry in addition to the National Level Master Trainers.

The 20.6 Km elevated corridor will create seamless connectivity between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal allowing container trucks to bypass city roads. This dedicated freight route is expected to reduce congestion in core areas and ensure faster cargo movement to and from the port. By shifting heavy vehicles off arterial roads, the project will significantly ease traffic in localities like Egmore and Central Chennai. Commuters can expect smoother daily travel with fewer bottlenecks and reduced travel stress during peak hours. Once operational, the expressway is expected to cut travel time between the port and Madurvoyal drastically. Improved logistics will enhance Chennai’s position as a major trade hub.

मुंबई के नगर आयुक्त भूषण गंगरानी ने जानकारी दी है कि नगर निकाय वीरमाता जिजाबाई भोसले वनस्पति उद्यान और चिड़ियाघर का आधुनिकीकरण और विस्तार करके इसे अंतरराष्ट्रीय मानकों के अनुरूप बनाने की योजना बना रहा है। बुधवार को नगर निगम का बजट प्रस्तुत करते हुए श्री गंगरानी ने बताया कि योजना के तहत 70 से अधिक प्रजातियों को प्रदर्शित करने वाला एक एक्वेरियम बनाया जाएगा, जिसके दिसंबर 2026 तक पूरा होने की उम्मीद है। विस्तार योजना में 18 अलग-अलग पशु आवासों वाला एक विदेशी चिड़ियाघर भी शामिल है। इसके अलावा, मुलुंड में एक विदेशी पक्षीशाला भी प्रस्तावित है, जिसे दिसंबर 2027 तक खोला जाएगा। नगर निकाय ने अगले वित्तीय वर्ष में इस उद्देश्य के लिए 136.70 करोड़ रुपये का प्रावधान प्रस्तावित किया है।

In a noble gesture, the family of a youth from Mandya in Karnataka consented to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead, bringing hope to six patients.
The transplants were successfully performed at the Trauma & Emergency Care Centre of Victoria Hospital, under Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute.
The youth suffered a severe brain hemorrhage following a bike accident on February 22 and was later declared brain dead by a medical panel. After counselling, the family agreed to donate his liver, kidneys, heart valves and other organs.
Doctors lauded the family’s courageous decision, calling it a life-saving act amid tragedy.

आज पुण्यतिथि है विनायक दामोदर सावरकर की। वे न सिर्फ़ एक क्रांतिकारी थे बल्कि एक भाषाविद, कवि, अप्रतिम क्रांतिकारी, दृढ राजनेता, समर्पित समाज सुधारक, दार्शनिक, द्रष्टा, कवि और इतिहासकार और ओजस्वी वक्ता भी थे। उनके इन्हीं गुणों ने महानतम लोगों की श्रेणी में उच्च पायदान पर लाकर खड़ा कर दिया।
उन्होंने अनेक ग्रंथों की रचना की, जिनमें ‘भारतीय स्वातंत्र्य युद्ध’, मेरा आजीवन कारावास’ और ‘अण्डमान की प्रतिध्वनियाँ’ (सभी अंग्रेज़ी में) अधिक प्रसिद्ध हैं।
जेल में उन्होंने ‘हिंदुत्व’ पर शोध ग्रंथ लिखा।

Today is the birthday of Kuntal Joisher, an Indian mountaineer based in Mumbai. On 15 May 2018, he stood on top of Mt. Lhotse, the 4th highest mountain in the world at 8516 meters. During the course of the expedition, Kuntal only consumed strictly vegan food, and used only vegan gear including a one-piece synthetic suit made completely from animal-free material, as well as mittens and gloves constructed devoid of down or leather.
He climbed Mount Everest from the south side on a completely plant-based diet. He reached the summit on 19 May 2016. He is also the first mountaineer to have climbed Mt. Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world, on a completely plant-based diet. He reached the summit on 1 October 2014.

आज पुण्यतिथि है आनंदी गोपाल जोशी की। जो पहली भारतीय महिला थीं, जिन्होंने डॉक्टरी की डिग्री प्राप्त की थी। जिस दौर में महिलाओं की शिक्षा भी दूभर थी, उस समय विदेश जाकर डॉक्टरी की डिग्री हासिल करना उनके लिए एक मिसाल थी। आनंदी गोपाल जोशी का व्यक्तित्व महिलाओं के लिए प्रेरणास्त्रोत था। उन्होंने सन 1886 में अपने सपने को साकार रूप दिया। जब उन्होंने डॉक्टर बनने का निर्णय लिया था तो उनकी समाज में काफ़ी आलोचना हुई थी कि एक विवाहित स्त्री विदेश (पेनिसिल्वेनिया) जाकर डॉक्टरी की पढ़ाई करे। लेकिन आनंदीबाई एक दृढ़निश्चयी महिला थीं और उन्होंने आलोचनाओं की तनिक भी परवाह नहीं की। यही वजह थी कि उन्हें पहली भारतीय महिला डॉक्टर होने का गौरव प्राप्त हुआ।
आनंदी गोपाल जोशी के जीवन पर कैरोलिन विल्स ने साल 1888 में बायोग्राफी भी लिखी। इस बायोग्राफी पर आधारित ‘आनंदी गोपाल’ नाम से हिंदी टीवी सीरियल का प्रसारण किया गया जिसका निर्देशन कमलाकर सारंग ने किया था।

Today is the birthday of Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, KC, SC, VSM (Retd) is an Indian politician and a former officer of the Indian Army. He is also a mountaineer and philanthropist, and was the principal of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarakhand.
He was the head of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi when the institute was given the task of rescue and rehabilitation around the Kedarnath Temple, after its destruction by a flash flood in 2013. His non-profit trust, “Youth Foundation” trains young boys and girls from Uttarakhand to join the Indian Army. He was given the Uttarakhand Ratna award in 2016 for his contribution to uplift and provide employment to youth of Uttarakhand.
Colonel Kothiyal (then Major) was part of the first team of the Indian Army that successfully summited the Mount Everest in 2001, under the leadership of Brigadier Krishan Kumar AVSM.
In 2012, Colonel Kothiyal led a team of seven female officers from Indian army and successfully scaled the world’s highest peak for the second time. Mrs Pratibha Singh Patil, President of India at that time, awarded him Shaurya Chakra.
