Industry bodies have welcomed the landmark India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed in New Delhi. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has said that the agreement represents a strategic breakthrough in the country’s global trade engagement and significantly deepens the partnership between them. CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee said that the unprecedented preferential access secured for over 99 percent of Indian exports through the agreement is a game-changer for Indian industry.
Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, FICCI Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) congratulated the government for advancing this agreement of strategic scale and long-term significance.

Researchers from Nagaland University have discovered a new plant species in the high-altitude forests of the state, reinforcing the Northeast as a biodiversity hotspot. The newly identified species, Hoya nagaensis, was found during systematic botanical explorations. Hoya nagaensis, is currently known from a single location, the Kavünhou Community Reserved Forest in Phek district. Due to its extremely restricted distribution, and threats from shifting cultivation and forest disturbance, the species has been provisionally classified as Critically Endangered.

French lawmakers has approved a bill banning social media for children under 15 years of age. The move is championed by President Emmanuel Macron as a way to protect children from excessive screen time. The lower National Assembly adopted the bill by a vote of 130 to 21 in a lengthy overnight session. It will now go to the Senate, France’s upper house, ahead of becoming law. In December, Australia became the first country to ban social media for children under the age of 16, sparking global debate on technology use, privacy, child safety and mental health.

The Chief Commissioner of Greater Bengaluru Authority and District Election Officer Maheshwar Rao has sought more time for publishing ward wise draft voters’ list of the five City corporations slated to go to polls. The Supreme Court has issued directions to publish the final voters list by March 16 and complete the civic polls by June 30. The Municipal Authority has published the draft voters list on January 19. The Chief Commissioner informed that the representatives of political parties have approached him with a proposal to seek more time to complete the statutory election related works.He added that awareness will be created among citizens about Booth Level Officers, BLOs visiting houses to collect data on voters.

His legacy includes memorable performances of classical and semi-classical vocal music, classical and devotional music, albums and film soundtracks, innovations in various genres including Haveli Sangeet and popularizing the Mewati Gharana – a school of thought in Hindustani classical music. Pandit Jasraj taught music to amateur and professional students in India, Europe, Canada and the United States.
