The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Delhi High Court suspending the life sentence and granting bail to former Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case. The CBI yesterday filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Apex court against the High Court’s decision. Earlier this week, the High Court ordered the suspension of former legislator’s sentence during the pendency of his appeal against conviction and life imprisonment and also granted him conditional bail.
Sengar was convicted in 2019 by a special CBI court and sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of 25 lakh rupees in the Unnao rape case of Uttar Pradesh.

गृहमंत्री अमित शाह ने देश भर में आतंकवाद निरोधक दस्ते-एटीएस का एक साझा ढांचा बनाने का आह्वान किया है। गृहमंत्री ने राज्यों के पुलिस महानिदेशकों को इसे जल्द से जल्द लागू करने का निर्देश दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि पूरे देश में पुलिस के लिए साझा एटीएस ढांचा प्रत्येक स्तर पर आतंकी हमलों को रोकने में सहायक होगा। श्री शाह ने कल नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी-एनआईए के दो दिवसीय आतंक रोधी सम्मेलन 2025 का उद्घाटन किया। गृहमंत्री ने भविष्य की चुनौतियों का मजबूती से सामना करने के लिए देश में एक अभेद्य और मजबूत ‘आतंकवाद रोधी ग्रिड’ बनाने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि भारत की आतंकवाद रोधी क्षमताओं को और बढाने के लिए सभी एजेंसियों को देश और दुनिया की प्रत्येक आतंकवादी घटना का विश्लेषण करना चाहिए। गृहमंत्री ने बताया कि नरेन्द्र मोदी सरकार देश में आतंकवाद को प्रमुखता से खत्म कर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह वार्षिक सम्मेलन प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के आतंकवाद के प्रति जीरो-टॉलरेंस के विजन के तहत उभरते खतरों से निपटने के लिए एक मंच बन गया है।

In Kerala, Mandala Pooja, most auspicious ritual during the 41-day Mandala Vrutham, will be conducted at the Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple today. As part of the ceremony, the deity will be adorned with the Thanga Anki, the golden attire, followed by special prayers.
The Travancore Devaswom Board has made elaborate arrangements for crowd management, security, medical services and pilgrim amenities. Darshan during the Mandala Pooja period is being regulated through the virtual queue system, along with limited spot bookings, as per official guidelines. The temple will close after the Mandala Pooja and reopen on 30th of December for the Makara Vilakku pilgrimage season.

राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मु आज से गोवा, कर्नाटक और झारखंड के चार दिन के दौरे पर रहेंगी। वे आज शाम गोवा के लिए रवाना होंगी और कल कर्नाटक के कारवार बंदरगाह से पनडुब्बी में समुद्री यात्रा करेंगी। राष्ट्रपति मुर्मु सोमवार को जमशेदपुर में ओल चिकी लिपि के शताब्दी समारोह में शामिल होंगी। इस लिपि का सृजन 1925 में रघुनाथ मुर्मु ने संथाली भाषा के लिए किया था। यह लिपि संथाल आदिवासी समुदाय के लिए सांस्कृतिक और भाषाई दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है और उनकी पहचान, साहित्य और विरासत के संरक्षण में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती है। राष्ट्रपति उसी दिन एन.आई.टी. जमशेदपुर के 15वें दीक्षांत समारोह को संबोधित करेंगी। राष्ट्रपति मंगलवार को झारखंड के गुमला में अंतरराज्यीय जनसांस्कृतिक समागम समारोह – कार्तिक यात्रा को संबोधित करेंगी।

The year 2025 stands as a defining chapter in India’s development journey. It saw policies translate into progress and intent into impact. In the Special Series, ‘Year of Reforms’, today our correspondent brings a report on India’s progress in the Taxation Sector in 2025.
India’s tax history reflects the evolving relationship between the state and its citizens. From the oppressive Salt Tax challenged by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930, to income tax rates touching an extreme 97.5 per cent during the 1970s, excessive taxation fostered distrust, fear-driven compliance and widespread evasion.
The tax reforms initiated by the Narendra Modi government over the past eight years, and decisively carried forward in 2025, mark a clear departure from that legacy. The key pillar of this transition is the next-generation GST reforms. While GST’s introduction in 2017 unified India into a single market, multiple slabs, classification disputes and compliance complexities persisted. This year, the system was rationalised into two main slabs of 5 and 18 per cent, with clearer classifications, easier registration and simplified compliance.
The impact has been visible in consumption and revenue trends. India recorded its highest-ever Diwali sales at over six trillion rupees, strong Navratri demand, and record automobile sales in October. Households are expected to save about two-and-a-half lakh crore rupees annually due to GST cuts and income tax relief. Insurance premiums now attract zero GST, while daily essentials and consumer goods have become more affordable. Income tax reforms have delivered major middle-class relief, with the exemption limit rising from two lakh rupees in 2014 to twelve lakh rupees this year. This year, tax reforms represent not just fiscal restructuring, but a philosophical shift where trust, simplicity and transparency are driving growth and compliance. The Bengaluru City police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh held a meeting on security drill for the forthcoming New Year celebrations in the city. The meeting discussed the preparations for the night of December 31st when revellers gather in thousands on Bengaluru streets and joints to usher in the new year. The Police Commissioner issued guidelines yesterday to maintain law and order and to ensure the safety of women, children and senior citizens. The new year event organisers were asked to seek permission with a number of invites and conform to the timings fixed by the authorities. Parking on public roads will be banned on that night.

Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has announced a strict ‘zero drugs policy’ to ensure a drug-free environment for citizens and unveiled a multi-layered enforcement plan. He informed the media that the plan involves the deployment of Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing , Task Force, Special Branch, and local police to ensure there is no movement of narcotics ahead of new year. He said surveillance teams have been deployed at pubs, hotels, restaurants, and event venues, with continuous monitoring of individuals previously involved in drug-related offenses over the past two years.

नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन पर यातायात को सुगम बनाने के लिए पार्किंग शुल्कों में बदलाव किए गए हैं। रेलवे मुख्य जनसंपर्क अधिकारी हिमांशु शेखर उपाध्याय ने बताया कि निजी वाहनों के लिए पहले 8 मिनट निशुल्क रहेंगे और वाणिज्यिक वाहनों के लिए 30 रुपये का शुल्क लगेगा। श्री उपाध्याय ने बताया कि 15 मिनट से अधिक समय तक रुकने पर निजी और वाणिज्यिक वाहनों को 200 रुपये की जगह 150 रुपये शुल्क देने होंगे। आधा से एक घंटा तक रुकने पर 500 रुपये शुल्क को घटाकर 200 रुपये कर दिया गया है।

महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने कल वीर बाल दिवस के अवसर पर, सिख धर्म के दसवें गुरु श्री गुरु गोविंद सिंह जी के पुत्रों साहिबजादे बाबा जोरावर सिंह (9) और साहिबजादे बाबा फतेह सिंह (7) को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। शुक्रवार को सायन स्थित गुरुद्वारा गुरु तेग बहादुर दरबार में एक कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि साहिबजादों के शौर्य और बलिदान ने भारतीय इतिहास को एक नई दिशा दी है और आने वाली पीढ़ियों को प्रेरित करते रहेंगे।

पश्चिम बंगाल परिवहन विभाग सड़क सुरक्षा जागरूकता को बढ़ावा देने के लिए सेफ ड्राइव सेव लाइफ’ अभियान की 10वीं वर्षगांठ के उपलक्ष्य में एक अनूठी पहल शुरू कर रहा है। आज से इसकी शुरूआत हो रही है। विभाग कोलकाता के सॉल्ट लेक स्थित बैशाखी अबासन मैदान में दो दिवसीय क्रिकेट टूर्नामेंट का आयोजन करेगा। परिवहन विभाग प्रीमियर क्रिकेट लीग के नाम से आयोजित इस टूर्नामेंट में पश्चिम बंगाल परिवहन निगम, परिवहन निदेशालय और सचिवालय के अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों की आठ टीमें भाग लेंगी। परिवहन मंत्री स्नेहाशीष चक्रवर्ती ने कहा कि विभाग ने पहले भी क्रिकेट मैच आयोजित किए हैं, लेकिन इस वर्ष का आयोजन विशेष रूप से सड़क सुरक्षा के संदेश को व्यापक रूप से फैलाने के लिए किया गया है।

लांस नायक अल्बर्ट एक्का – 27 दिसम्बर 1942
आज हम स्मरण कर रहे हैं परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित अद्वितीय वीर सैनिक लांस नायक अल्बर्ट एक्का को। झारखण्ड की राजधानी रांची, तत्कालीन बिहार में 27 दिसम्बर 1942 को जन्मे लांस नायक अल्बर्ट एक्का 1971 के भारत-पाकिस्तान युद्ध में भारतीय सेना की 14 गार्ड्स बटालियन में तैनात थे। पूर्वी मोर्चे पर गंगासागर क्षेत्र में दुश्मन की चौकियों पर हमले के दौरान उन्होंने अदम्य साहस और असाधारण वीरता का परिचय दिया। भीषण गोलाबारी के बीच उन्होंने एक के बाद एक दुश्मन की कई चौकियों को नष्ट किया और अंततः देश के लिए वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए। उनकी अनुपम वीरता के लिए भारत सरकार ने उन्हें मरणोपरांत सर्वोच्च सैनिक सम्मान परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित किया।

सुनील कोठारी – पुण्य तिथि 27 दिसंबर 2020
आज भारतीय कला जगत के एक ऐसे मनीषी को स्मरण करने का दिन है, जिन्होंने नृत्य को केवल मंच तक सीमित नहीं रखा, बल्कि उसे इतिहास, आलोचना और विचार के स्तर पर नई ऊँचाइयाँ दीं। हम बात कर रहे हैं – सुप्रसिद्ध नृत्य इतिहासकार, आलोचक और लेखक पद्मश्री सुनील कोठारी की। 27 दिसंबर 2020 को सुनील कोठारी इस संसार से विदा हो गए, लेकिन भारतीय शास्त्रीय नृत्य पर उनका योगदान आज भी जीवंत है।

Mirza Asadullah Beg Khan (27 December 1797 – 15 February 1869), commonly known as Mirza Ghalib, was an Indian poet and letter writer of the Mughal Empire. Writing in Persian and Urdu during the final years of the Mughal Empire and the rise of British colonial rule, his poetry often addressed themes of love, loss, philosophy, the human condition, and socio-political disturbances with a depth and complexity that influenced the literary traditions of his time. His ghazals, noted for their intricate imagery and layered meanings, form a significant part of Urdu literature. He spent most of his life in poverty.
हम को मालूम है जन्नत की हक़ीक़त लेकिन
दिल के ख़ुश रखने को ‘ग़ालिब’ ये ख़याल अच्छा है
उनकी उर्दू ग़ज़लों का संग्रह “दीवान-ए-ग़ालिब” को आज भी साहित्य जगत की अनमोल धरोहर माना जाता है। ग़ालिब के पत्रों ने उर्दू गद्य को सरल, आत्मीय और आधुनिक रूप प्रदान किया। उनकी लेखनी में विचार की गहराई और मानवीय संवेदना स्पष्ट दिखाई देती है। ग़ालिब का साहित्य आज भी उतना ही प्रासंगिक है, क्योंकि वह मनुष्य के भीतर चल रहे संघर्ष और प्रश्नों से सीधा संवाद करता है।
Mirza Ghalib is one of the greatest poets witnessed in the history of Urdu Poetry. He has been the inspiration to Urdu poets across generations. Though difficult in their structure, his couplets are often quoted by the masses in their day-to-day life. This is one of those couplets – ‘maut ka ek din muayyan hai; nind kyun raat bhar nahin aati.’Interestingly, most of Ghalib’s letters have survived. His distinct writing style and language lends credence to the letters. Primarily addressed to his friends, the letters encapsulate intricacies of Ghalib’s life and times. The collection of Ghalib’s letter is published into two volumes, ‘Ood-e-Hindi’ and ‘Urdu-e-Moalla’He wrote in both Urdu and Persian. Although his Persian Divan (body of work) is at least five times longer than his Urdu Divan, his fame rests on his poetry in Urdu. Today, Ghalib remains popular not only in South Asia, but also among the South Asian diaspora.Mirza Ghalib had a strong command over Persian. His initial work was written in Persian and was inspired by acclaimed Persian poet Bedil Dehalvi. Ghalib remembers him through this couplet- ‘tarz-e-be-dil mein rekhta kahna; asadullah khan qayamat hai’. He also wrote a critique of prevalent Persian dictionary ‘Burhan-e-Qate’ under the title ‘Qate-e-Burhan’.Mirza was a mentor to countless poets. ‘Shefta’, ‘Hali’, ‘Meer Mehdi Majrooh’ are just a few of the long list of his distinguished disciples. He also mentored ‘Dagh’ Dehlavi after the death of Sheikh Ibrahim Zauq.Interestingly, most of Ghalib’s letters have survived. His distinct writing style and language lends credence to the letters. Primarily addressed to his friends, the letters encapsulate intricacies of Ghalib’s life and times. The collection of Ghalib’s letter is published into two volumes, ‘Ood-e-Hindi’ and ‘Urdu-e-Moalla’
