He was talking to a TV channel, ahead of his 2-day visit to India. Referring to Western sanctions against Moscow, Russian President said, his country’s energy cooperation with New Delhi largely remains unaffected. Rejecting Washington’s objection to India procuring crude oil from Russia, Mr Putin said, if the US has the right to buy Russian fuel, why shouldn’t India have the same privilege.

Reserve Bank of India will announce its bi-monthly monetary policy today. Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the RBI began its three-day deliberations in Mumbai on Wednesday. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra will announce the decision this morning. Some experts believe that a 25-basis point reduction in interest rate is likely to come. The meeting is taking place against the backdrop of falling inflation and rising GDP growth. The RBI has reduced the key short-term lending rate by 100 basis points in three tranches, beginning February this year.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has held a review meeting with Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu along with senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and IndiGo’s top leadership after the airline reported major disruptions across its network since late November 2025.
During the meeting, the Minister criticized the manner in which the situation has been handled by the airline. The Minister also instructed the airline to proactively inform passengers of any likely cancellations well in advance and to ensure that all necessary facilities, including hotel accommodation where required, are provided promptly to minimize inconvenience.

The Directorate of survey and settlement will procure high resolution satellite imagery to modernise and digitize land records across the State. The department has issued a request for proposal to create a comprehensive high resolution satellite imagery database covering an area of more 1,30 thousand sq. km. Once procured, the satellite data will feed into the Tamilnadu geographical information system, supporting large scale mapping, land surveying , and governance applications.

Karnataka minister for Large and Medium Industries M B Patil has said that a vision document will be prepared to boost mobile and electronic product manufacturing and design in the state. NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub has released a roadmap to help India become a leading quantum technology economy. The plan focuses on boosting research, building skilled talent, supporting start-ups, and creating secure quantum infrastructure. The roadmap was launched at IIIT Hyderabad yesterday in the presence of top Telangana leaders and NITI Aayog officials. NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam said India should aim to be among the world’s top three quantum economies by 2025 and noted that Hyderabad has strong potential to become India’s Quantum City.
Chief Architect of the Frontier Tech Hub, Debjani Ghosh said India aims to develop at least 10 globally competitive quantum start-ups, each earning over $100 million. She emphasized the importance of becoming self-reliant in quantum technologies and capturing more than half of the global quantum software and services market by 2035.

Today is World Soil Day, a global event held every year on 5 December to highlight why healthy soil is essential for life. This year’s theme is “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.”
We often think of soil only in farms and forests, but urban soil is just as important farms and forests. When city soils are open and covered with vegetation, they help absorb rainwater, reduce heat, clean the air, and store carbon. The day encourages governments and citizens to rethink urban planning and create greener, more resilient cities.
World Soil Day was first proposed in 2002 by the International Union of Soil Sciences. With the support of Thailand and the FAO, it was officially adopted by the UN in 2013, and the first celebration took place in 2014.
In India, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) marks the day with awareness events and promotes initiatives like the Soil Health Card Scheme, which helps farmers understand and improve their soil for better crop management.

नादिरा अथवा फ़रहत एज़ेकेल नादिरा का जन्म: 5 दिसंबर, 1932, इज़राइल; (मृत्यु: 9 फ़रवरी, 2006) हुआ था। वह हिन्दी फ़िल्मों की ख्यातिप्राप्त और सुन्दर अभिनेत्रियों में से एक थीं। फ़िल्मी परदे पर नादिरा आत्मविश्वास से भरपूर नजर आती थीं। वे अपने किरदार में पूरी तरह से समा जाती थीं। साठ से भी अधिक फ़िल्मों में अपने बेजोड़ अभिनय की छाप छोडऩे वालीं नादिरा दिलीप कुमार, राजकपूर, मीना कुमारी, राजकुमार और अमिताभ बच्चन आदि अनेक कलाकारों की फ़िल्मों में सिर्फ सहायक ही नहीं, बल्कि विशिष्ट भी बन जाती थीं। अभिनेत्री नादिरा अपने समय से कहीं आगे थीं।
Nadira (born Florence Ezekiel; Arabic: فلورنس حزقيال 5 December 1932 – 9 February 2006), was an Indian actress who worked in the Hindi film industry. She appeared in films from the 1950s and 1960s, including Aan (1952), Shree 420 (1955), Pakeezah (1972), and Julie (1975), which won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Nadira was born on 5 December 1932 in Baghdad, Iraq, into a Baghdadi Jewish family. When she was an infant, her family migrated from Baghdad to Bombay in search of business opportunities. She had two brothers, one of whom lives in the United States and another in Israel.

Nadira’s first appearance in cinema was in the 1943 Hindi-language film Mauj when she was 10 or 11 years of age. Her breakthrough came from Sardar Akhtar, wife of film director Mehboob Khan who cast her in the film Aan (1952). Her role as a Rajput princess in the film marked her rise to cinematic prominence. In 1955, she played a rich socialite named Maya in Shree 420. She played pivotal roles in a number of films such as Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai (1960), Pakeezah (1972), Hanste Zakhm (1973), and Amar Akbar Anthony (1977). She was often cast as a temptress or vamp, roles which were used as a foil to the chaste leading lady characters that were favoured at the time by the Hindi film industry.
Nadira won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in the 1975 film Julie. During the 1980s and 1990s, she mostly played supporting characters. Due to her image as a Westernized woman, she often played roles of Christian or Anglo-Indian ladies. Her last role was in the film Josh (2000). She was among the highest-paid actresses during her career, and was one of the first Indian actresses to own a Rolls-Royce.

Khan Bahadur Ardeshir Irani (5 December 1886 – 14 October 1969) was a writer, director, producer, actor, film distributor, film showman and cinematographer in the silent and sound eras of early Indian cinema. He is considered one of the greatest personalities in recent Indian Cinema. He was the director of India’s first sound film Alam Ara. He was the producer of India’s first colour film Kisan Kanya. He was renowned for making films n Hindi, Telugu, English, German, Indonesian, Persian, Urdu and Tamil. He was a successful entrepreneur who owned film theatres, a gramophone agency, and a car agency.Life and careerArdeshir Irani was born into a Parsi Zoroastrian family on 5 December 1886 in Pune, Bombay Presidency. In 1905, Irani became the Indian representative of Universal Studios and he ran Alexander Cinema in Bombay with Abdulally Esoofally for over forty years. It was at Alexandera Cinema that Ardeshir Irani learned the rules of the art of filmmaking and became fascinated by the medium. In 1917, Irani entered the field of film production and produced his first silent feature film, Nala Damayanti, which was released in 1920.In 1922, Irani joined Bhogilal Dave, the former manager of Dadasaheb Phalke’s Hindustan Films, and established Star Films. Their first silent feature film, Veer Abhimanyu was released in 1922 and starred Fatima Begum in the female lead. Dave, a graduate of the New York School of Photography, shot the films while Irani directed and produced them. Star Films produced seventeen films before Irani and Dave dissolved the partnership. At this establishment, Irani produced the films and either Mishra or Gandhi directed the films. Despite its success, fifteen films later, Majestic Films closed, giving way to the equally short-lived Royal Art Studios which had exactly the same life-span as the earlier two, however, it became famous for a certain type of romantic films. Irani improved on it, using new talent to great effect.In 1925, Irani founded Imperial Films, where he made sixty-two films. By the age of forty, Irani was an established filmmaker of Indian cinema. Ardeshir Irani became the father of talkie films with the release of his sound feature film, Alam Ara on 14 March 1931. Many of the films he produced were later made into talkie films with the same cast and crew. He is also credited with making the first Indian English feature film, Noor Jahan (1934). He completed his hat-trick of earning fame when he made the first colour feature film of India, Kisan Kanya (1937). His contribution does not end only with giving voice to the silent cinema and colour to black-and-white films. He gave a new courageous outlook to filmmaking in India and provided such a wide range of choice for stories in films that till date, there are films being made which have a theme relating to one of the one hundred fifty-eight films made by Irani.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791) was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical period. Despite his short life, his rapid pace of composition and proficiency from an early age resulted in more than 800 works representing virtually every Western classical genre of his time. Many of these compositions are acknowledged as pinnacles of the symphonic, concertante, chamber, opera, and choral repertoires. Mozart is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music, with his music admired for its “melodic beauty, its formal elegance and its richness of harmony and texture”.
Born in Salzburg, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. At age five, he was already competent on keyboard and violin, had begun to compose, and performed before European royalty. His father, Leopold Mozart, took him on a grand tour of Europe and then three trips to Italy. At 17, he was a musician at the Salzburg court but grew restless and travelled in search of a better position. Mozart’s fruitless journey in search of employment led him to Paris, Mannheim, Munich, and eventually back to Salzburg. During this time he wrote his five violin concertos, the Sinfonia Concertante, and Concerto for Flute and Harp, as well as sacred pieces and masses, the motet Exsultate Jubilate, and the opera Idomeneo, among other works.
While visiting Vienna in 1781, Mozart was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He stayed in Vienna, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During Mozart’s early years in Vienna, he produced several notable works, such as the opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail, the Great Mass in C minor, the “Haydn” Quartets and a number of symphonies. Throughout his Vienna years, Mozart composed over a dozen piano concertos, many considered some of his greatest achievements. In the final years of his life, Mozart wrote many of his best-known works, including his last three symphonies, culminating in the Jupiter Symphony, the serenade Eine kleine Nachtmusik, his Clarinet Concerto, the operas The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte and The Magic Flute and his Requiem. The Requiem was largely unfinished at the time of his death at age 35, the circumstances of which are uncertain and much mythologised.

मजाज़ लखनवी (पूरा नाम: असरार उल हक़ ‘मजाज़’, जिनका जन्म: 19 अक्तूबर, 1911, बाराबंकी, उत्तर प्रदेश; मृत्यु: 5 दिसम्बर, 1955) में हुआ था। वे प्रसिद्ध शायर थे। उन्हें तरक्की पसन्द तहरीक और इन्कलाबी शायर भी कहा जाता है। महज 44 साल की छोटी-सी उम्र में उर्दू साहित्य के ‘कीट्स’ कहे जाने वाले असरार उल हक़ ‘मजाज़’ इस जहाँ से कूच करने से पहले अपनी उम्र से बड़ी रचनाओं की सौगात उर्दू अदब़ को दे गए शायद मजाज़ को इसलिये उर्दू शायरी का ‘कीट्स’ कहा जाता है, क्योंकि उनके पास अहसास-ए-इश्क व्यक्त करने का बेहतरीन लहजा़ था। आइये सुनते हैं जगगीत सिंह की आवाज़ में उनके द्वारा लिखा गया गीत-
Asrar-ul-Haq (19 October 1911 – 5 December 1955), better known as Majaz Lakhnawi, was an Indian Urdu poet. He is known for his romantic and revolutionary poetry. He composed ghazals and nazms in Urdu. He was the maternal uncle of poet and screenplay writer Javed Akhtar and Indian-American psychoanalyst Salman Akhtar.
Majaz was born on 19 October 1911 at Rudauli in Ayodhya district of what is now Uttar Pradesh. His family were a branch of a land-owning gentry family, but were not wealthy. His brother Ansar Harvani was a journalist and he had two older sisters, namely Safia and Hamida. Safia was the wife of poet Jan Nisar Akhtar. Thus, Majaz was the maternal uncle of Javed Akhtar. He also worked for All India Radio for a year before moving to Bombay. A leading and renowned progressive poet, famous for his romantic and revolutionary nazms, he was the first editor of All India Radio’s magazine Aawaz.” Majaz suffered from a hearing impairment even as a child, and probably for this reason, he tended to be somewhat difficult, with erratic behavior; he was moody and also a loner. He had the habit of staying awake all night and doing most of his work then; as a result, his earned the nickname “Jaggan Bhaiyya” (“awake brother” in Hindi).
हुस्न को बे–हिजाब होना थाशौक़ को कामयाब होना था
हिज्र में कैफ़–ए–इज़्तिराब न पूछख़ून–ए–दिल भी शराब होना था
तेरे जल्वों में घिर गया आख़िरज़र्रे को आफ़्ताब होना था
कुछ तुम्हारी निगाह काफ़िर थीकुछ मुझे भी ख़राब होना था
रात तारों का टूटना भी ‘मजाज़’बाइस–ए–इज़्तिराब होना था
जुनून-ए-शौक़ अब भी कम नहीं है
मगर वो आज भी बरहम नहीं है
बहुत मुश्किल है दुनिया का सँवरना
तिरी ज़ुल्फ़ों का पेच-ओ-ख़म नहीं है

Josh Malihabadi (born Shabbir Hasan Khan; 5 December 1898 – 22 February 1982) popularly known as Shayar-e-Inqalab (poet of revolution) was Indian born Pakistani Urdu poet. Known for his liberal values and challenging the established order, he wrote over 100,000 couplets and more than 1,000 rubaiyat in his lifetime. Yaadon ki Barat, his autobiography, is noted for its frank and candid style. The first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru held him in high esteem and frequently attended the mushaira at Lala Kishan Lal Kalra’s United Coffee House where Josh recited his poetry. Some of his works were translated to English like The Unity of Mankind elegies by Josh Malihabadi by Syed Akbar Pasha Tirmizi. Padma Bhushan Award, India’s third highest civilian honour in 1954.
Josh was born to an Urdu-speaking Muslim family of Afridi Pashtun origin in Malihabad (13 miles from Lucknow), United Provinces, British India. He received early education in Arabic, Persian, Urdu and English at his home. He studied at St Peter’s College, Agra and passed his Senior Cambridge examination in 1914. Subsequently, he studied Arabic and Persian and, in 1918, spent six months at Tagore’s university at Shantiniketan. The death of his father, Bashir Ahmed Khan, in 1916, prevented him from undertaking a college education. His family had a long tradition of producing men of letters. His great-grandfather, Nawab Faqeer Muhammad Khan ‘Goya’; his grandfather, Nawab Muhammad Ahmad Khan; his paternal uncle, Ameer Ahmad Khan; and his father, Basheer Ahmad Khan, were all poets with numerous works, including poetry collections, translations, and essays. Another of his relative was the journalist, scholar and Abul Kalam Azad’s confidant, Abdur Razzaq Malihabadi.
is kā ronā nahīñ kyuuñ tum ne kiyā dil barbād
is kā ġham hai ki bahut der meñ barbād kiyā
mere rone kā jis meñ qissa hai
umr kā behtarīn hissa hai
