Border Security Force (BSF) has started putting up an anti-tunnelling system in Punjab and Jammu border areas to prevent the digging of tunnels to smuggle weapons and drugs, and to foil any attempt by Pakistan to send terrorists.
Disclosing this during a press conference at Mohali today, ADG, BSF (Western Command), Satish S Khandare said that this advanced system will start giving alerts of any tunnelling activity carried out in the border areas.
The press conference was part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the inception of BSF.
Talking about the role of BSF during ‘Operation Sindoor’, Mr Khandare said that the force has played a pivotal role in retaliating against Pakistani aggression, defending border posts, destroying enemy infrastructure and thwarting infiltration attempts.
He said BSF actively countered Pakistani drones used for surveillance and potential attacks by deploying anti-drone systems to detect, jam, and neutralize intruding platforms. He said in recognition of the bravery of the BSF personnel, they have been conferred with 2-Vir Chakras and 816-Gallantry Medals.
Besides these achievements, the BSF has carried out significant seizure and apprehensions along India’s Western Border with Pakistan to counter smuggling and illegal infiltration. The force has apprehended 53 Pakistani intruders/smugglers during this year till date.
