Major Asian stock markets displayed a mixed trend in a holiday-shortened and final trading day of the year. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell almost 0.9 per cent, and Singapore’s Straits Times Index dipped 0.2 per cent. Conversely, China’s Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.1 per cent up. Meanwhile, markets in Japan, South Korea were shut for a holiday. Among the European indices, Germany’s DAX was shut for trading on account of New Year’s Eve, while France’s CAC 40 slipped 0.6 percent and London’s FTSE dipped 0.2 per cent in a half-day trading session today.
