In Jammu and Kashmir, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has launched an extensive snow clearance operation on the historic Mughal Road after fresh snowfall led to its closure in the higher reaches, including Pir Ki Gali and adjoining areas.
Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the recent snowfall caused heavy snow accumulation, making the road unsafe for vehicular movement. BRO teams, equipped with snow cutters and heavy machinery, were immediately pressed into service to restore traffic between Shopian and the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
The snow clearance operation is going on at full pace despite challenging weather conditions. The BRO teams are working around the clock to ensure early restoration of this important road link. BRO officials said that the road would be opened for traffic only after a thorough inspection to ensure safety.
The Mughal Road, which serves as an alternative route between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region, is not only of strategic importance but also holds great historical significance. Authorities have appealed to commuters to avoid unnecessary travel and follow traffic advisories until the road is officially reopened.
