BRICS Leaders Gather in Rio for 17th Summit on July 6-7

The Heads of State from BRICS member countries and partner countries descend in Rio de Janeiro for the 17th edition of the Summit to be held on July 6 and 7th. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving in the evening today according to the local time in Rio de Janeiro and early morning according to the India time. Akashvani Correspondent informs that the Sherpas from the member countries have prepared a groundwork for the discussion that will lead to Joint declaration.

The Sherpas from the member countries met in Brazil to stitch a draft declaration that will be deliberated upon by the Heads of State during the leadership summit on July 6 and 7. BRICS has been working relentlessly for the development of the Global south. It wants to form a framework to collaborate on expanding cooperation in the areas of health, ethical use of Artificial Intelligence to solve global problems, reform multilateral banks to meet the financial needs of meeting the challenge of climate change and also want to foster a balanced and inclusive global governance. India is keen on sharing its expertise in inclusive growth and digital economy. It also would like the BRICS forum to mention in the declaration a condemnation of cross border terrorism perpetrated on India. It is a significant event for India where it can exert its influence on global affairs and advance its strategic interests within the BRICS framework.
