Brazil’s Supreme Court has handed down heavy sentences to three soldiers and a federal police officer accused of plotting to assassinate President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The Prosecutors said, the plan aimed to prevent Lula from taking office and keep then-President Jair Bolsonaro in power after his election defeat. The four defendants received prison terms ranging from 21 to 24 years. Bolsonaro was also sentenced to 27 years for allegedly leading the Green and Yellow Dagger conspiracy. Authorities said, the group also targeted other senior officials, including Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
